A simple yet heartwarming story about being your true self and still being loved! I loved the presentation of certain scenes and love the voice acting! (i will say there was a slight lag on the voice acting but i was playing on browser) I enjoyed this entry alot!

Developer(+1)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! wheheheeh the voice actors did AMAZING work!! noted about the lag on browser though! thanks for the heads up! excited to play your game next on my list!

There seemed to be a little bit of lag on the title screen, although I’m not sure whether that was an issue with my computer or with the game itself.

What I can say for sure, though, is that I really liked the way the character on the screen moves their eyes depending on the cursor position. There’s also this slightly irritating sound when you hover over the menu options—and I mean that in a good way! I assume it was intentional. I thought it worked really well together with the eye-tracking effect. Sound design is always such an important part of a game.

I also thought the sequence where the doll starts moving and the UI changes was very clever. I’m not quite sure how else to describe it, but I actually liked how clearly the UI changed and how dramatically the overall screen layout shifted. I think that worked especially well with the surreal direction of the story.

And this is more of a personal preference, but I also really liked the use of environmental sounds layered underneath the background music—something like frogs croaking, maybe? I’m not completely sure if that’s what it was. I use this kind of technique quite often myself, and I think combining ambient sounds with music like this helps give the audio a sense of realism even while the BGM is playing.

Anyway, there were a lot of things I really liked about the game, and I definitely came away feeling inspired by it too.

I’d also like to give a round of applause to the voice actor who played Marseille. The performance had this very doll-like, but it never felt awkward or unnatural. I thought it suited the character really well!

Interesting story, and the characters were fun! For some reason the music didn't work, maybe because I was playing it in browser...

Absolutely gorgeous work you've put together. The use of layers and movements and perspectives really make it feel very lively. And credit to the voice actors too!

I do feel the transition from the real to the theater like section is a little harsh in styles, going from a very cinematic display to a gamey display gave me some dissonance in a bad way, and I would have liked to see these mesh a little better in theme (though obviously they should maintain their different styles). Not really sure there is much more constructive I suggest for it!

Developer

Thank you very very much!! I appreciate the feedback! Taking notes on the dissonance in a negative manner though. We wanted to have that harsh change to really give it a "dreamworld" vision but I'm glad you voiced an opposing opinion to it :D

Excited to play your game!

Yeah, I absolutely got the dissonance thing, and it definitely needs to be there, I think the largest part is the change from soft text boxes of the real world to explicit "you are playing a visual novel" text boxes. I think adding a little bit more of an explicit text box to the real world would be how I'd solve it. It's at a point where people are still establishing their expectations so it shouldn't really get in the way of your excellent styling to start with and it should mellow the difference between cinematic and game.

This was such a beautiful story! The art is absolutely gorgeous, and I really love Marsielle's design! I also don't want to get too in depth to avoid spoilers, but it was genuinely heart-wrenching going down the bad ending 😭Also the way main menu leads into the story is brilliant! An incredible entry that was clearly made with a lot of love and passion! Fantastic work!

AAWWWW i'm glad you loved the story!!! Marseille's design is absolutely one of my favorites among all the projects Ran (my artist/best friend) and I have done together. She's so pretty and I am so glad you love it! There were so many intricacies going into this game that I'm glad you picked up on them :DDD thank you so much for the comment!!

WOW! You all have outdone yourselves with this: the cinematography, the stunning artwork, the atmospheric soundtrack, the deliriously strange and intriguing story...phenomenal work to the whole Riversitters team!! ❤️ You all did amazing!

AWAWAAWWA thank you so much, Butterfly Rocket Studios!!! It means a lot coming from you!! The entire team is over the moon at how this game serves as a benchmark to how far we've grown in a year. I'm so glad you enjoyed the game and all that it offers. Marseille and Bonnie both do a curtsy to you!

Quite an interesting story. At the beginning I thought that this whole thing would go in an entirely different direction, but I was pleasantly surprised. VIsuals are definitely the best aspect of this game.

Keep up the good work!

Developer

Our artist, Rananculus, went SO hard on the visuals. It was so fun getting to see the game come to life!! And I'm glad our fakeout worked! I was so nervous it would've leaned too far into one direction!!
