The art style and dithering effect you guys came up with is awesome! It really inspired me to try something different and ambitious to up the creepiness factor for my visuals next year.

You definitely captured Being Trapped At A Bad Party and the claustrophobic atmosphere of it, haha. Good job!

For some of the longer sections of descriptive prose, I think it would be good to change up the visuals a little every once in a while so that the player isn't just looking at the same animation (and listening to the same loop of music) for several minutes in a row.

The visuals, sounds, and world building really worked together. It felt both isolating and somehow captivating at the same time. The whole team did a great job and everything felt so consistent and well crafted. Really nice and appealing aesthetic too!

Thank you so much for your kind words! That means a lot, coming from your team.

The feeling of being isolated in a crowded space, alone at a party... It was really important to us that such a thing came through in Zoomorphism. It was our first time working together (and with such tight timing), so to hear that it all came together well is such a relief.

"Everyone keeps dancing."

This was a good reminder why I don't go clubbing anymore. I hated those "Lovers" so much, so pushy.

Loved the music and world building. And oh my, those character designs were great. The whole aesthetic of this game worked really great.

The whole team did an amazing job.

Developer

Right? Just the sorts you might find at the club...

Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed it! :-) The visual identity of the game was one of the first aspects we tried to lean into, and was kept hand-in-hand throughout development.

Incredibly intriguing worldbuilding, and really strong writing to carry it through! The limited color scheme of the graphics also works incredibly well, especially for conveying a weird dark psychologically-tenuous apocalypse disco - great job! The character sprites in particular feel really dynamic and have such a strong sense of character - something which can be hard to pull off with so many masks in the designs! A really solid project all around - congrats to the whole team.

Developer

Aww, this is such a kind comment, thank you so much. ᓚᘏᗢ

The limited palette was something we decided on early on as it gave us a very good sense of the setting (which helped to carry through the writing), so I'm very glad to hear that it's succeeded in doing so. Would you say that you have a favourite character sprite, with regards to what you've said on the designs? ^^

I hope that you continue to enjoy our work! Thanks for playing!

The world that has been built here is incredible, every single word was perfectly placed to give a sense of the oppressive nature of a crowd mentality. The struggle against what seemed inevitable, what I'm being told now is a bad ending, even if it was essentially how I would have reacted to the situation. The feeling was similar to my own experiences as a young adult trying to fit in, I don't know if that was intentional, but I think everyone should play this at least once.

Developer

Hiya! Sorry for the late reply, I was a participant on stream but have been too busy to hunker down for replies since...

Thank you so much for playing our game, I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much! ^_^ Though I think I perhaps wasn't quite clear enough in the senses of endings... What I would say is, they are not designed in themselves to be good or bad, but to be the response to your actions (and in turn, to be interpreted by you at their conclusion!) so, the ending was 'bad' insofar as it may not have been your preference/happy ending for the protagonist, or something that you would see as a fulfilling ending / one that is comfortable connected to one's own experiences. Does that make sense?

With regards to the feeling of trying to fit in... all of the dev team are neurodivergent, but we have very different levels of tolerance for anything club/rave-like that resembles the setting in Zoomorphism and the strange social aspects that might bring (as a young adult trying to fit in). With aspects like loud music, there's a fine line between "so loud you can feel it all through your body" and "too loud to think about anything". It kind of takes you out of yourself, and the experience is super surreal. It's ambiguous to whether or not the protagonist of Zoomorphism has been to a party like this before, but in any case they're really, really not in the right mind for it.

The visuals on this game were really stunning! Fantastic colour combo, the backgrounds were really cool and I really loved the character art. Really awesome style. The phone was really cool. The game was great at giving a sense of growing anxiety and discomfort, and I liked both endings depending on your final choice at the end. Great work team!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing and for your kind words! We wanted to create something anxiety-inducing, so I'm really glad it came through!

Bravo the world is well-crafted and offers plenty of choices. The blend of pixel art and hand-drawn character aesthetics works really well.

Developer

Thank you for enjoying our game! We're hoping to work on expanding the world outwards from Zoomorphism (not necessarily in terms of a sequel), so please stay tuned!

i like the backgrounds and the character design.

the music really fits the rave environment too

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! All of the backgrounds are constructed from pictures that I took of different environments in the city that I live in, and they were a lot of fun to work on :)

I can confidently say this has my favorite art style out of all the games I’ve seen in Spooktober so far! It’s completely my taste. I love everything about it, from the cards to the character designs.

If I had to point out one thing that could use a little improvement, it would probably be the UI. I think just refining the font and dialogue box a bit would make everything fit the overall art style even better.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! There are so many amazingly beautiful games submitted to this jam so this comment means a lot!! And thank you for the feedback also 🙌

I loved the dialogue, and the time-check feature on the phone was interesting. I enjoyed the consistency of the theme within the story. I thought it was presented wonderfully with strong aesthetic quality and cohesion. I played through both endings (so far?), and it took me about an hour.

PS: I love how the Death Tarot card looked so much..

Developer

Thank you so much!!

I wish for all the art that you got that you did more work with visual story telling. but your inspirations are very clear and you wear them well, I really liked your designs, the characters are really unique.

Thank you so much! Do you have any leads for us on how to improve in that department?
