Hi! You played my game, so I played yours and recorded it π
It is my first let's play! The idea is funny: a cabin in the snow, a fire that you must keep alive with logs, and pumpkins that come for you. I ran for logs, faster and faster, and the first time I was too slow π
The pumpkins look like they want to do some strange adult things with me π Was it your idea, or did it just happen by accident? It made me laugh, and I like it. Is it on the theme? I think yes, because I didn't invite them!
Small notes: when I walked forward, sometimes the camera turned me around. There is no music, and that is a little bit sad. Some music, or a TV or a radio in the cabin, would make it even better. Really funny game. Thank you, and happy Halloween!
π¬ I recorded my play!
βΆ Watch: Pumpkin Frost, let's play (8 min)
Thank you for this game! π
Yeah my goal was to make something simple. I tried to avoid a damage system, for simplicity and might be frustrating to start over if they get a bit grabby.
At first the shake was giving epileptic symptoms so now it's sus but it works to be an obstacle to the objective. Note, if you're fast enough it's possible to headshot them before they grab you.
My goal was to focus more on the visual. But I struggled so much scripting all this, well once more I did more programming than anything else for 10 days π«
But I get better at least.
I like the idea! I like it!
I suggest balancing the controls a little and make it snappier!
Good luck ππ
You are correct, I didnt invest time in making flawless control, I struggled more making everything work XD
The hardest was the raycasting+collision+hud response. I dug to find a good way to make it happen and it still a bit bugged!
I am glad you liked! I learned so much during the development.
Yes, it works. Here's a slightly polished version with the same meaning, just smoother:
Haha, I know that feeling! π Getting everything to just work is the hardest part. Raycasts and collisions gave me headaches too, so you're in good company. If you have some time, try an input buffer: it gives about 0.1 seconds for early presses to still count. It makes the controls feel much snappier! Great job buddyπ
Love the concept, need to be a bit more clearer about these snowmen (first I saw them they wiggle at me XD)
It really missing the music and more diverse SFX.
Overall was great, Great work!!
Making that shaking logic was a journey, at first it was so shaky, I was afraid to give motion sickness to people.
I didnt take time to give much instruction since theres not much in there anyway. I thought, discovery was part of it.
So a player can either keep fueling the heartfire, avoiding snowmen, or use the shield fire to melt the snowman and stop the heartfire from cooling.
Its a small game loop, but I spend more time working on shaders, which they are unshaded shaders and the light is faked. I wanted it to be performant for HTML5.
I added the SFX 2 hours before the deadline, I was still debugging and finishing the lose/win scenes that day XD
This is a great idea for a game, and lots of fun, but boy is it hard. Those snowman are mean!
Great game thanks for sharing!
The snowmen are good.
It's really the pumpkins you gotta watch out.
π«π
Thank you for playing π
I'm colliding in chopped lumber and snowmen wait right in downstair ready to hug me behind at the yard of major lumber castle - but what could anybody do about that...
I say burn them π π₯
Those pumpkins caused enough troubles β
This is a really fun game! At first, I struggled because I couldn't keep the fire going. But once I read others comments about the fire barrier, I really started to get going. Even with the fire barrier, I was racing toward the end of my 10-minute playthrough to keep the fires going. I like how early on getting wood is easier with the trees closer to the house, but towards the end you really gotta watch out when going for the far trees. This creates some nice tense moments. Nice job!
At first I lost a few times because I couldnβt get the firewood to the stove in the house in time. But then I realized I could build a huge firepit in the yard, and things got much easier :)
I liked that the game gets harder on its own as the timer runs down. At first youβre chopping the nearest trees, you donβt have to walk far, and keeping the fire going is easy. But the longer you play, the harder it gets: you have to go farther out, where the fire no longer protects you.
At one point there were 40 seconds left on the timer, Iβd run out of firewood, and three snowmen attacked me deep in the forest. That was a really tense moment.
By the way, you can play our game too.
This is why we make games, for those moments! We can't predict what a player will do or how an enemy state will react. But the situations that happen are unique and interesting! Thank you for playing, I will check out Roach in my bath πͺ³ π
Fire feels running out little too fast when it takes time to get new wood and axe on bunch snowmen but its a good start.
Thank you for the feedback.
Since there's nothing else in the game. That was pretty much the challenge π
I had more planned, but I had to scrap alot due to time constraints and being one person studio.
