I am a solo indie game developer, who's looking to work for people on their upcoming projects. While I am looking to get paid, I'm more than willing to work on hobby or passion projects. My genres of interest are sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and post-apocalyptic. So, if you're working on something in those particular fields, here is what I have to offer;

  • Level Design
  • Story Design
  • World Building
  • Narrative Design
  • UI Design
  • NPC & Enemy AI Programming(via Unreal Engine blueprints)

If you're interested in what I can bring to your team and/or project, feel free to contact me through the comments or on my itch.io page. Also be sure to check out my game, Phasmorph! I look forward to working with you.

Hey Wolfbyte, I’m making Conventional Space Fleet, a Godot space fleet prototype. Saw you’re into grand strategy. Want to help with maps, scenarios and worldbuilding? Workable ideas we can try; I handle implementation.

Hobby/unpaid, strictly for fun, no fixed schedule or release goal. I use AI heavily for code and assets, so you’d need to be comfortable with that. I keep final say on direction/release.

Interested? What’s your age range (20+, preferably 25+), and which strategy/building games do you enjoy?

Hey SLW,

First off, I'm 34 and the kinds of strategy/building games that I enjoy playing are Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, those sorts of games.

Anyways, I'm glad you responded to my post. I took a look at your project, it might be something I would be interested in helping you with. It kind of reminds me of Sins of a Solar Empire. I can help out with lore and worldbuilding if your trying to put a story behind it. But before we can move forward, there are two things I should tell you about.

First is the details. While I'm willing to help you create a world for players to interact with, I'm going to need a bit more information about what you are trying to make. I need to know what your expectations are as far as what is the focus of the story/stories, how deep you want the lore to go, and what are the limits of this creative development. Otherwise, I will start writing and creating moments where space titans clash with eldritch horrors over a star system that produces an over-powered element that could shatter the space time continuum. I don't want to put you in a situation where I create something over the top and you spend hours, days, or weeks trying to bring it to life. I'm just asking for more information so I can get a better handle on this.

Lastly, my time is not unlimited. I know you said that you don't have a schedule, but I should inform you that I am a busy person. Aside from my usual day to day stuff I have to do, I'm also helping out with another volunteer project; Oathbreaker: War of the Nine Crowns. Also, I'm dealing with other upcoming activities to help my community. My schedule is looking pretty busy the rest of this month and it doesn't look like I could help you with this until early November-ish. I hope this sort of thing can wait until then.

Regardless, I am interested in helping you out with this project through worldbuilding and I'll do what I can. So just give me more details about this game, and I'll help out when I can. Thanks for the opportunity and I hope to hear from you back soon.

Hey Wolfbyte, November-ish works, no rush.

Still early, no set direction yet. Broadly, RTS with Cosmoteer-style missions and warp jumps, captain/ship micro up to large fleet battles. I already have a 500v500 demo running in real time at 140+ FPS.

I also made a space fleet trailer: https://youtu.be/KXwo5NPeYQg Curious what you think of the vibe and whether it sparks any ideas.

I’d love ideas for factions, stories, relationships, characters, quirks or general game ideas. A big part would also be creative writing we can use in-game. I’d build the dialogue system, avatars, animations and surrounding mechanics. You’d develop the characters and write dialogue for faction leaders, trading stations, special characters, etc., then play it and refine it. The writing could also push changes to the systems. We can iron out the details when you’re free.

And honestly, space titans clashing with eldritch horrors sounds fun, probably as the final battle of a story campaign. I’d build the ships and horrors, rig and animate them, give them dynamic weapons and combat AI. Add fitting music, SFX that shatter the void, shaders tearing up spacetime and a planet destruction scene.

That takes time to polish, so I prefer reusable systems. A titanic ship mostly uses systems I already have. For an eldritch boss, I’d probably reuse the work in an organic fleet faction. One-off bosses and big scenes are fine too, just a few where the payoff is worth the work. The spacetime shaders could become warp effects, electronic interference, space phenomena or effects for repeatable missions.

My main hands-on skills are programming and systems. I use AI heavily for code and assets. Music is quick with my tools; good SFX take longer with my current pipeline. Odd Spark shows my sound design and physics work, Supper-Guard my 3D, level design and progression.

Usual flow: you design, I implement, we play and iterate. I’d need room to expand, simplify or reshape ideas into playable systems. We can both cross into each other’s areas too. Whoever picks something up owns getting it working and polished. We’d both need to be comfortable with criticism, reworking or scrapping things, while keeping the main game coherent.

Mostly async on GitHub, at our own pace. Check what’s there, play it, experiment and find things to improve. Discord or Matrix for discussion and nudges, email works too.

  • Discord: caffeinecore
  • Email: small.loop.works@proton.me
  • GitHub: RaresKeY

I might be slow to respond sometimes, like here on itch. I get caught up in experiments and forget to check messages, so feel free to nudge me.

Alright then. Sounds good. I'll try to come up with something in my spare time and I'll give it to you at my earliest convenience.

BTW, I was joking about the whole titan vs elder god thing. I was just using that as an exaggerated rhetoric. But... if you're that open minded, I think I can conjure up something like that that's a bit more grounded and more manageable.

Thanks for sending me more info, and I really look forward to working on this with you.

If you need my help with a project, my discord is Wolfbyte92.

Hey Wolfbyte!

I came across your post about looking to collaborate on indie game projects, and I think you could be a great fit for something I'm developing.

I'm the developer behind Elemental Arena, a third-person fantasy PvP/PvE game built in Unreal Engine 5 under Flair Studios.

The project already has a playable foundation, including seven elemental combat styles, multiplayer systems, a competitive ranked system, and a separate PvE world currently in development.

I'm especially interested in your experience with level design, worldbuilding, UI design, and Unreal Engine Blueprint AI.

I'm currently developing a large fantasy island with multiple biomes, explorable dungeons, and plans for creatures and enemy encounters. I think your skills could be valuable in helping bring those areas to life.

I'm working independently with no current budget, so this would be an unpaid hobby collaboration, which I noticed you're open to considering.

Would you be interested in discussing the project and potentially collaborating? I'd be happy to explain what I've built so far, what I'm planning, and where your skills could fit.

Thanks!

Flair Studios — Elemental Arena

This project of yours does sound interesting. I would love to help out with level design and worldbuilding. However, I should let you know that I am busy with other projects the rest of this month, and I don't know how much help I can be until November-ish. If you can send me more details about this game; the direction, you're expectations, etc., that would be fantastic.

I would really like to work on this project with you and I'll try my best to find the time do so.

Hey! Thanks for reaching out. I'd definitely be interested in discussing a possible collaboration!

Elemental Arena is a third-person fantasy action game being developed in Unreal Engine 5.8 under my indie studio, Flair Studios.

The game revolves around seven playable elements: Fire, Water, Ice, Earth, Wind, Lightning, and Light. Each element has its own abilities, movement mechanics, and ultimate, with an emphasis on mechanical skill, competitive combat, and creative strategies.

The project has two major directions:

PvP: The current development focus. It features competitive 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 modes, with arenas designed around movement, positioning, verticality, and each element's unique abilities. The core elemental combat systems are already playable, and I'm working toward a professionally polished experience.

PvE: A larger fantasy world planned for future development, featuring elemental societies, exploration, quests, dungeons, bosses, and a central storyline. The goal is to eventually create a world that players can explore beyond competitive matches.

For level design, I'm particularly interested in creating arenas that are visually distinctive but also competitively balanced, with meaningful cover, elevation, movement routes, and opportunities for different elemental abilities to shine.

For worldbuilding, I already have the foundations of the setting and story established, but I'd love to collaborate with someone who can help develop its locations, cultures, environments, and overall atmosphere.

I completely understand that you're busy until November, and there's no pressure to start immediately.

I'd love to learn more about your experience with Unreal Engine, level design, and worldbuilding, and hear which part of the project interests you most.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

While my strengths do revolve around world building, lore design, and creative writing, I am more than willing to help out with level design. As long as you have the assets necessary to create arenas, I can place them and structure them in a way that appeals to the players. When I was developing my game, Phasmorph, I used different asset packs to create my levels in a manner that fit the narrative I was going for. So my experience with UE5 is like this; I can make things  work as long as I have access to the assets needed.

I am mostly interested in the worldbuilding aspect of this project. Using elemental powers in fighting styles is giving off some Avatar vibes, which I am a diehard fan of. I would love to help you come up with characters, civilizations, all of that jazz, because that's where I thrive the most. Currently, I'm working with another development team on a project called Oathbreaker: War of the Nine Crowns, where I'm volunteering in the Lore Development Team. This experience has given me some incredible insight on how to structure stories and how to collaborate with other people.

Thanks for reaching out to me and for being patient with my tight schedule. I really do look forward to working on this with you and I hope to do so soon.

Hey Wolfbyte92!

Thanks for explaining your background! I’m glad the elemental concept caught your interest, especially since you’re an Avatar fan yourself!

Avatar: The Last Airbender has actually been one of the biggest inspirations behind Elemental Arena, both in terms of combat and worldbuilding. A lot of the elemental abilities and movement mechanics I’ve designed draw inspiration from the creative ways bending was used throughout the series. The idea of different elemental civilizations, each with their own cultures, philosophies, architecture, and traditions, has also heavily influenced my vision for the game’s world.

While I’m currently focusing on polishing the competitive PvP side of Elemental Arena, I have a much larger PvE experience planned. The world revolves around seven elemental societies, each with its own identity, culture, leadership, and history. I want these civilizations to feel genuinely different from one another, not just visually, but in how their people live, interact, and use their elemental abilities in everyday life.

I’ve already established the foundations of the main storyline and much of the world’s overall direction, but there’s still plenty of room to expand upon its civilizations, locations, history, and lore. I’d love to collaborate with someone who shares that passion for detailed worldbuilding and can bring fresh ideas to the table.

I’d also be interested in seeing some of your previous worldbuilding or level design work, particularly anything from Phasmorph or your other projects that you’re allowed to share.

And don’t worry about your schedule! I completely understand that you’re busy with other projects right now. There’s no rush, and we can continue discussing ideas until you have more time available.

I’m looking forward to potentially working together and seeing what we can create!

Hey, do you need a composer?

(+1)

I'm actually looking for a team to join. I don't have a project of my own that needs a composer.

Oh ok

Hi,

I am very interested in helping out specifically focusing on NPC and enemy AI programming using Unreal Engine Blueprints or C++.  I have strong experience working with Unreal Engine (Blueprints and C++), and I am comfortable with remote teamwork.

Let me know if you would like to chat or discuss the details further!

I think you misunderstand. I'm looking for a team to join and help with their projects. I'm not trying to build a team for my own project (which I don't currently have).
