Like the other, I found that the game had a lot of potential, but way too overwhelming as is, it needs a learning curve in a way or an other :/ I finally managed to make 20$ and saw that as a huge achievement (I really am super proud) Maybe the game is more easy to take in hands for people who are used to play games with a lot of inputs, like pc fps, but as a casual, figuring out where were the keys in such a short amount of time, with them being all over the place was super hard. Jumping from b to w to 1 isn’t something intuitive (just picture in your head your average grandma looking at her controler each time she has to press an input, and you’ll have a good idea of what my play time looked like)
IT didn’t allow me any time to notice the limitation so out of curiosity, how did you build your game around it?
Also the art is super cute, reminds me of 2000’s cartoons like ed edd eddy! You also carefully sync the input rythm with the music, and you’d be tempted to say “well it’s a rythme game”, but I played several rythme game in jams that missed that mark, so kudos!
Thanks for playing and for such a detailed review!
For the art, the concept was in fact disney/games for girls/cartoon network style flash games from the early 2000s, so kudos for picking that up!! Also glad to hear the music synced well for you, because we had some issues on some player's devices with that.
Also thanks for the grandma mental image, haha. That's also an interesting point - I think as a dev I am used to touch typing so multiple keys are not a big deal. Tbh it's interesting to see how much I underestimated how difficult it would be for people (^-^;
In terms of the limitation, that's where the "switch screens to make the burgers" comes in. The idea is you can get the highest score by making burgers whenever you run out of customers, and then when you "look back" more customers have arrived who you can then sell said burgers too. I thought about adding more to this like customers having a time limit so if you took too long making burgers they would disappear as well (more "changing while you look away") but thought this might be too hard - and thank god I didn't lol.
Cheers again and congrats on making $20 :) I think after this jam I'll add in a bit more tutorial / controls build-up so that it's more playable in the off-chance anyone ever stumbles upon it again xD
Ho I’m the programer for my team too, but I never took the time to learn proper typing, I’m a 2 finger-eyes on keyboard typer xD I also tend to do a lot of clumsy typos and my hands are small, all of those were working against me 🥸
I still genuinly enjoyed that game so I’ll save it somewhere, because I can totaly see myself coming back to it if you add some introduction stages with fewer controls, and/or slower pace! And now that you mention it, it’s true that the turn around of customers only happened when I was making burgers, I’ll fix my limitation rating to acknowledge that 🙂↕️
And I played a lot of those games as a child, no wonder it felt familiar! You really captured the vibe of that era to a t!
This game was super cool! I really liked the art; it matched the theme very well. The gameplay was super fun, but I also found it quite difficult at first. I think it would be nice if, at the beginning, you only handed out water, then burgers, then combos, etc. Great work on the game! I had a blast playing.
Thanks for playing and commenting! We were going to add some more levels but we kind of ran out of time. But yeah that's a really good idea actually with building up the different keys, because I think the amount of keys was quite difficult for many people. Have a nice day :)
I love rythm games and this game has a potential! But it's so hard to beat... With some polishing I'd play it all day, honestly :)
Art is also great!
Thanks for playing and commenting !
The idea and the rhythm game concept is very very cool, and maybe if given more time and playtesting, the controls would've been better. I really struggled to give out orders even though I spent quite some time trying. But the idea and the concept is nice! Though I wasn't exactly sure how the limitation took place? The theme was evident though, yes
Thanks for playing and commenting! The limitation, "Things change when you look away", was achieved through the switch between kitchen and customers view mechanic. While you're making burgers in the kitchen, new customers arrive and time passes (the background gets darker), progressing the level :)
I really dig the idea but game is way too hard from the start, also could really use more intuitive control scheme bc there are way too many buttons to press
Thanks for playing and commenting :)
Very well made game, love the art and the mechanics! i found all the buttons being everywhere a bit confusing as im not usually much of a rhythm game guy, but i started to get the hang of it! well done!
Yeah it's definitely a "play a few times to get the hang of it" type game, ideally if we had more time a tutorial would've be good to put it I reckon. Thanks for playing and commenting :)
Fun concept, the art is amazing
I will be honest the game was way too hard for me, not a rhythm game enthusiast, but I can see you have a very good base and would love to see it more!
Nice work
Thanks for playing and for commenting :) And for your honesty haha xD
I love rhythm games so much, so this was fun for me. I enjoyed the game however the controls are a little confusing cause there were just so many keys to press (the double press was especially difficult). I loved the concept though!
Great submission :)
Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it! That's a good point on the controls.
When you say double press what do you mean? Like you are double pressing two keys at the same time? (Like E+something else?)
*Edit: I realise you are probably talking about the W+B for burger and drink.
I liked the game. The art and idea are cool.
However I find it a bit too hard to have this fast rythmn and also have to check for changes in the characters. For a regular OSU! player perhaps this is easy, but I'm just a commoner hahah
Yeah in hindsight we probably could've built up the difficulty a bit more - I (the dev) am a bit of a rabid rhythm game player which was definitely an oversight when it came to difficulty QC (^^;
Glad to hear you liked it tho :) Thanks for playing and commenting!
I'm so bad at rhythm games haha, but this is really well done and a cool idea!
Thanks for playing it anyway and taking the time to comment! :)
Managed to make it through level 1, but didn't make enough to unlock level 2. It was satisfying when i managed to find the rhythm, but it took me a while to get there. the art is really nice, and it definitely has that cosy/spooky autumn feel.
Honestly congrats for getting through level 1, I think we accidentally made it a little too hard (^^ But glad to hear you stuck with it and found it satisfying! Thanks for the review!
Fun game and I quickly discovered I was bad at rhythm. I had a hard time tracking all the buttons I was supposed to press and where they were on my keyboard -- but others did really well so it's a me problem! Art, limitation, and music were all fantastic.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah keeping on beat is hard but the finger coordination is what gets ya, haha.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Awesome game! I got $190 on level 2. At first, it was really difficult, but once I got the hang of it, it was incredibly satisfying.
Nice! Congrats on getting to level 2 - that songs's my favourite haha. It's for sure a bit tricky at first and I was wondering if the "How to Play" was clear enough, so glad to hear you were able to get used to it and enjoyed the game :)
It might be worth mentioning I'm a musician (I'm the composer on my team). So the average player might need a slower tempo song for a tutorial/level 1 xD. I thought both music tracks were appropriate and high quality!
Haha I got you...yeah our composer and myself (dev and rabid rhythm game player) were able to clear it, but luckily we had our game designer who gave us a reality check xd
Always difficult to gauge difficulty of your own game after you've test-played it 100x times hey xd
