That was fun and really charming! The first ever Poto variant I found was this thing
And I was like "Whattt? Did you eat my Poto??"
Not sure if this was a bug but I couldn't feed my leaf after a second retry, and you can accidentally click into the forest while the Poto is still talking about the initial instructions and you'd get stuck after that
It was really hard to get the Potoleaf to stay! It was only at my 6th attempt that I finally figured out how to keep it content enough to stay. It was fun trying to see how many of these I could find.
My Poto collection (spoilers)
Really cozy, i liked it! Thanks for creating this game!
First, thank you for your dedication š
I have no idea on what could possibly trigger the recipe bug, the soup should be available at all time š¤ā¦ Oh np it just hit me, I might have poorly reseted the variable on the restart button š„
I will add notes in the description to warn futur players, thank you for making me aware of those bugs!
Ho and you did catch most of Potoleafās possible āmischiefsā! Iām really happy that you took time to learn our game, and to experience it as its fullest, it means a lot šāØ
I like how you can form some grammatically correct sentences that don't make sense. Also seems like there's no cap to the number of characters you can put in the textbox for the name, you can have some very long names.
āfreshly backed muffinsā sounds like a cool rapperās name to me š«”
I wonder if those very long name can break the game, I shouldāve playtest that š¤
What I taught my Potoleaf:
I LOVE IT! It's like Tamagotchi for leaves! It has a Ghibli feeling in the art. My favourite part is teaching the Potoleaf (as shown above). Needs a bit of polishing, but you have made a wonderful game! Definitely continue it!
(ą¹>ā”<ą¹)
Ahahah I knew I couldnāt be the only one with a taste fore silly sentences builder! Thank you for writing us such an enthousiastic comment!
LOVE the art on this game! The wasps are out to get me I swear! I'm sorry to my potoleaf Bilbo who got stuck in food paradise :'( For real, though, the aesthetic is amazing, and the limitation is worked in so well. I also loved the music you chose. I saw people mentioning studio Ghibli in the comments, and I so see it! I knew this was going to be good as soon as I saw people comparing your art to probably the greatest animation studio of all time. Fantastic job to everyone involved!!
The musics are the work of Granularbiomes, the super talented musician of the team! šŖāØ Iām happy you liked them! And happy you liked the art too, it was a big bet, but I really wanted to try to capture that animated movie aestetic š Thank you for playing, glad you had a good time with our little game!
Love the vibes of this game. the art is amazing and the audio is great. Didnt get to experience much due to my crappy pc crashing, but what i did see was great.
Side note: I was gonna mention how it reminded me of Studio Ghibly, and wondered if it was intentional. but then I saw the player's name be Ponyo in one of the screenshots XD
Eheh truth be told Ponyo is my dogās name, but ghibli was indeed a big inspiration! thank you š
I love love love the art style! It's one of the best I have seen in game jams and I'm just mesmerized by the retro style! I enjoyed taking care of my potoleaf but during my first try it left me after 5 minutes of gameplay! TT I ought to care more next time :-D
Ahahah yeah itās hard watching over a dependant little fellow š Iām happy you enjoyed playing, next time donāt be to surprised if you meet a potoleaf with an all different personality š
I absolutely loved the art style! My jaw dropped when I opened the game. So much fun taking care of my potoleaf (Tim btw) and it was a joy doing all the minigames. The vibe and atmosphere are spot on, and I enjoyed his outfits changing. Great work!
Thank you! š«”
LOVED the art style and sounds!
LOL at "I'm definitely 0% smarter"... I know the feeling, little leaf XD. And that night sky when it goes to sleep? Seriously, I'd hang that on my wall haha. The art in this game is so good, almost looks like something out of a Ghibli film. Loved seeing what ridiculous new look my Potoleaf would have every time I came back from doing something too. Really fun way to use the limitation! The little sounds it makes are adorable, especially when petting it. And having all the different activities to take care of it was fun, kinda reminded me of playing with a Tamagotchi. Really nice work from all of you!
Ahahah, In my playtest I even got to see the super rare āIām definitly -2% smarter!ā, this too felt super relatable š Ghibli was a big inspiration for me when I painted those gouaches background, I really wanted to capture that āold animation movieā feel, so Iām happy it came across at the end šŖ
In the name of all the team, super thanks š«”āØ
Adorable and silly! My only note is that I thought I was supposed to clean off various things from the leaf (sweat, paint, etc), and I was confused when it never went away. Still, well done!
You know what? Thatās fair, I was myself a bit frustrated that dirt wouldnāt be cleaned up while I playtested xD sadly I didnāt have enough time left to add that feature at that point š„²
Glad you enjoyed the game š
I love the Tamagotchi/Talking Tom gameplay loop, along with the 1980s artstyle with the old aesthetic which is super cool. I love the artstyle so much it has a very nostalgic vibe to it which is super super nice. Gahh its so good. I wish as time progressed there were new things regarding to gameplay I suppose??? Other than that everything is good.
Ahah big thanks! You are not the only player who wouldāve like new mechanics/events as time passes, to break the monotony, so we will be extra careful about that in our next game if it involve a repeating gameplay loopš Thank you for playing and sharing your thougths! š
The art and audio are fantastic here. I felt a little overwhelmed starting things off, which culminated in leafy finding a food paradise in their dreams shortly afterwards. I'd be curious how your game would play differently if the core tasks were introduced over time rather than introduced all up front on day 1, giving me time to learn one thing, apply it, and then continue to expand on my responsibilities along the way.
I reconize the onboarding is⦠imperfect to say it kindly xD I wasnāt happy to welcome the player with a text wall either, and introducing mechanics 1 by 1 wouldāve surely prevent that.. Thatās a good suggestion, I take notes! Thank you for checking out our game! š«”
Very cute game I can see myself spending hours on! Well done
Super happy to hear that, thank you!
Such a cute game, and what sweet vibes from Potoleaf
It took me a regrettably long time to learn that doing nothing is its own form of art, but this leaf had it figured out five days after it was born. Humbling
I did have a bit of trouble with the quiz sometimes where I'd swear I had a correct answer but it was marked as wrong. There were also a few instances where it was impossible to construct a grammatically correct sentence with the options available, which is a bit of a bummer when it happens.
Cute game, would help a leaf on its journey to stardom again
The āonly wrong card suggestedā is a known issue, I tried to limit it by ensuring that only 2 wrongly spelled words max could spawn each time, but it didnāt prevent only wrong grammar showing up. Since the points are not given by sentences but by words, and that it is quite easy to max out the knowledge of the Potoleaf in a handfull of days despite that, I choosed to settle with that to focus on other aspects of the game š
Also, if you have screenshots of those incorrectly marked sentences I would be happy to look into them and add a note in the description to warn futur players if necessary!
Thank you for playing and sharing your thoughts, Iām happy you enjoyed it despite those few misteps š«”
No sweat, it's a relatively minor thing for a jam and your game shines more for the stuff you did have time for
I didn't think to take screenshots, that would have been the smart thing to do. But I'm not infallible either, sometimes I don't spell so gud
I never enjoyed petting my leaf this much and omg it sounds soooooo cute! The artstyle has a nostalgic feeling in it and had me worried about the game will turn into a horror game or what, fortunately it didn't. The different outfits kept me motivated to do every task everyday, but I really hoped there's some kind of events or interesting decision among the 20 days, right now it's very repetitive because the tasks have almost no variation at all. Anyways, here's my ending :3
Events are a really good suggestion, I can see how it wouldāve add to the experience, and make the playthrough feel more personal and involved š¤
Thanks for taking the time to play an other of our comfy entry! I hope youāre having a good jam btw! Im adding your game to my playlist (eheh) asap š«”
This was such a cute game! I really liked the different things you could do with your Potoleaf and how the limitation was implemented for the game! The art was absolutely beautiful and I loved it very much!
Such a lovely game, well done <3
Iām super happy you enjoyed it, thank you š«”
The art was so cute and fit the game beautifully! Everything came together really well, making it such a lovely game to play. Very well done :)
Thank you! š
I love the art and audio. The game gave very cozy vibes. I am personally not a fan of the gameplay. I ended up neglecting "Flow" (my potoleaf) after day 4. After about 10 days of not feeding or bathing them they decided to stay in their dreams. Great work on the project!
Thank you for giving it some time! Iām happy that aside for the gameplay that didnāt click for you, you still found some aspect of the game to enjoy. Out of curiosity, are you not a fan of care games in general or was there a crutial misstep in our interpretation of the genre that spoiled it for you?
I think I'm just not a fan of the care games genre. I don't think I've played much of this genre before. I can't even name one that I've played.
Thanks for your reply š«”
So cute, I loved the hand-painted backgrounds.
I had to refresh the page at one point and when i came back i found that my potoleaf was no longer a gym bro potoleaf, but and aloof little explorer.
I was also a little too greedy and kept getting stung by the wasps, so my poor little guy went a little hungry.
Oh did you encountered a game breaking bug?
Yes if you donāt choose a specific leaf on the naming screen, one is randomly selected for you!
eheh those are the dangers of gambling my friend š
It froze the first time I got stung, but i didn't happen any of the following times.
oof thatās bad, I have no idea what couldāve cause that⦠Iāll try to reproduce it and if I find what triggers it Iāll put a note in the description, thank you for bringing that bug to my attention š
I found it, thank you again, crazy that I missed that, it was super easy to reproduce :/ In the future Iāll be more careful to miss nothing when I deactivate interactive element on game over states š Hopefully people will notice the note in the description warning about that bug, so it doesnāt happens to them too :/
The art style is gorgeous! I honestly can't understand how you made the art fit into the the game like that! It's almost like playing an actual cartoon/anime.
Ahah thank you! I painted gouaches by hand for the backgrounds and drew the flat assets with procreate! then I used a vhs style shader to tie it all together! Iām happy that my intent made it through!!
