The cats are adorable :D I vaguely remembered seeing the same sprites some time ago in another jam. Sure enough, it was your game from Scream Jam 2024 :D You played both my games in Scram Jam 2024 and this year (I unfortunately missed 2025).

I personally have a soft spot for cats (and I love all cats :D) but I must note that your cats are just adorable, and the greater story is a well written one. Which is especially impressive for a game with such a short playtime. I personally often find myself trying to balance between writing something interesting and keeping it tidy for a jam entry. I must say that yours feels just right with regards to this balance, and therefore your ranking in the story category is a well deserved one.

I also really like the lightning system you've implemented. Not only does it nicely enhance the general atmosphere, but it also is a very impressive piece of tech that made me find myself going back and forth between rooms, just to see the way it is projected in the game world :D I don't know much about GDevelop, so maybe it was something rather simple to implement. Yet regardless, it a very cool usage of the mechanic on your part.

On a side note, I am eager to one day try GDevelop myself. Simply because I've encountered so many well made games with this specific engine across different game jams. Maybe it was just coincidence, or maybe it is an engine that is preferred by lots of experience developers such as yourself for a reason. If so, I'd like to discover that reason.

On a rather more important side note, I want to thank you for your Scream Jam videos. I really, really appreciate them. And I thank you not only for playing  my two games I happened to submit to Scream Jam, but for playing and recording lots of jam games in general. Seeing someone actually play your game is something invaluable in terms of discovering what can be improved. And it especially is encouraging for developers that are just beginning their game development journey, and consequently whose games do not normally get much attention. I am speaking from experience, so thank you. Both for his cool entry, and the amazing work you've been doing for the community :D

Thanks for the comment! I have a soft spot for cats, too. It's why a lot of the games I've made has them.

GDevelop was the first game engine that I used since it was easy to learn how it worked without knowing about any programming languages. I've been thinking about learning how to use Unity or Godot afterwards, but I haven't got the time to learn how they work.

I'm glad that you like my showcase videos. Playing a bunch of games is my favorite part about game jams.

See you in the next Scream Jam!

Short but a very cute game! I love the pixel graphics and the overall sound design of the game! It was easy to prepare for dodging for clear indicator when stuff started to fly at your direction.
Cats are truly magical beigns :)
Very good job!

I think you should have explained the backstory of your game but regardless of it the game was pretty fun. Really liked it's graphics.

Let me mention some things that you would have to improve

1. Current flying object disappears when you collect any item

2. cat sprite does not have idle or standing sprite, it's  idle sprite is a sprite where all it's legs are mid air which look weird if you notice it(maybe it's an error where you selected wrong frame for the idle animation).

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I should've explained the backstory of the game, but I didn't have time to do so. As for the others:

1. That's intentional. I didn't want the player to get hit with a cheap shot while they are busy reading the dialogue.

2. I was going to implement that until I ran into a glitch with the player's idle/standing sprite not showing properly. So I had to remove it for the final version.

Such a cute game! Those little books can be nasty to dodge sometimes!

The story was sweet and the art was amazing! Its so tricky to nail that top down art style, but you hit the mark! I especially enjoyed the graveyard scene at the End! Great job!

A very cute game! I liked that the flying objects had some curves to them and followed the player loosely so they were a little harder to dodge. Great fun!

Another entry in the Spooky Cat-Venture Series! I love this series. After I finished this game I went and replayed the 2024 game and 2023 game to refresh myself on the story. I like this world you're building.

Developer

Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you went to older Scream Jams to replay my older entries there. Not a lot of people do that since my games don't have a lot of replayability.

I feel like the story element makes it something you can come back to after a year or so, since you forget a little of the story after time passes. But also the (I guess you would call it) easter egg, which was a nod to the previous games made me want to go back and play them again. Made me want to refresh myself on the story so far.

The flying objects are a nice change to the Cat-venture series.
Is neat.

The game has a very cute aesthetic and the animations were great! The controls were super responsive and the gameplay loop was neat to go through!

I was a bit confused with the story, but the cats hanging out at the end was super cute! Short and sweet experience!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! This is part of my "Spooky Cat-venture" series, which started all the way back in Scream Jam 2023. So if you haven't played that game or its sequel that I made in Scream Jam 2024, you are probably going to be confused at what is going on.

Perhaps I should've thought about that before writing the story....

Very cute!! And the graphics were gorgeous. Gameplay was simple but just challenging enough to keep you engaged and perfect for a short & sweet adventure

The game is so adorable!! I really like the story telling and the mechanics of the game. Great job!

Thanks! I enjoyed writing the story for this game, though it took me a while for me to come up with a good one.

This was so cute bro I can't 😭 It was short and sweet and I enjoyed it because of that, just a simple time based game where you have to avoid objects, would've been really fun if there was a harder mode with bigger and faster objects being flung at you. Anyways cool game!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! I didn't want to make the game too hard since I've learned that doing so will cause players to give my game a lower rating, which I learned the hard way in my very first game jam. So I tried to make my games easy from that day on.
