Yeah, it’s still open if you’re interested. You can join the Discord Here which will be used for communication. The GitHub repository for the project is also here. I’m starting September 9th, let me know if you have any questions.

I don’t think the difference between Unity and Godot is a problem for an artist, but Godot accepts PNG images best though.

I don’t have a large social circle but that’s by choice. I don’t like socializing. But I wouldn’t say I’m lonely.

Yeah, if I was in that situation I wpuld apply those changes to the next game.

The longest game I ever created I would say takes 5-10 minutes to complete (4 months of development) but I’m pretty new to game development. Which game are you talking about because for me what is considered “too long” depends on the game. If this is a story based game where it’s a story and you choose a series of actions to alter the story, I would say aim for 10-20 minutes. If it’s any longer separate them into episodes/chapters.

If that 10-14 hours is playing time and not development time, then I would say it’s too long for a story based game. If I was playing a game like that I’d want to complete one full episode in one sitting. But splitting into different episodes/chapters should fix that problem.

Hi, I like your work. I have a project that I’m starting in 3 weeks and am wondering if you’re interested. I’m pretty new to game development. To get an idea of what I want to work on, you can look at Pixel Farming on my profile. I’m making a sequel but spending more time on it to improve on the mechanics. And I think I want the camera angle to be top-down instead of to the side.

Though on your profile it says you use Unity, I’m developing on Godot if that’s alright.

I mostly need someone who can make the buildings and the background. But if you can do UI too that would be really nice. I already have a music creator working with me, just let me know if you’re interested.

I never used unreal but from what I heard, Unreal works great for 3D but not well for 2D games. Unity also does good for 3D (Though Unreal is probably superior) but much better for 2D development. I’ve been learning game development for 10 months now, only used Unity for 3 of those months the rest have been on Godot. Never tried Unreal since I’m focused on 2D games and based on what I heard Unreal doesn’t render 2D games very well.

I’m new to game development and would give it a try and hire a temporary Pixel Artist for my upcoming game, a space themed farming game.

Who I’m seeking for

The game will be available for free, so I’m looking for those who are motivated to build their portfolio or gain new skills rather than seeking payment. I’m a new developer, the game won’t be super high quality, so I’m not too picky about skill level or art style.

What will you work on?

The game I’m making (Starting September 9th) is called Pixel Farming 2, a sequel to the first game I made. My goal for this project is to take what I did on the first game and expand on it. You can visit Pixel Farming for a reference, but it’s a 2D space themed farming game where the player’s goal is to expand their farm and keep the colonists alive.

What you will work on specifically is a static background, surface, greenhouses, and buildings. I don’t have the development timeline developed yet, but I plan to spend a minimum of 8 months on it which I can extend if needed.

Specifications

  • Preferably images should be exported in a PNG format, and I’m building on a 32x32 grid.
  • I have one other member on board, a music creator responsible for creating background music.
  • Team communication is done on (Discord)[https://discord.gg/EewP8ddX5] temporary for now, will switch up on my next project.

Timeline

  • Like as mentioned earlier, I’ve dedicated 8 months to this project. If you finish early, you don’t have to stay the entire duration. If 8 months isn’t enough, I can extend the project timeline. I care more about quality than speed.
  • I’m seeking a temporary project long artist, however you can stay for another project if you’d like.

Platforms

  • [Temporary] team communication: Discord
  • Project announcements for public communication: Stoat
  • Assignments and timelines: GitHub

Let me know if you have any questions!

Basically a few hours ago, but yes. https://discord.gg/zxReFeNqs

Hi, I’m a beginner game developer, have been learning game development for 10 months and published 2 games so far.

I’m starting a game project in September, A 2D Farming simulator game called Pixel Farming 2. If you want an idea, look at Pixel Farming on my page. I’m just creating a sequel game but doubling the amount of time I’m spending on it.

Anyway, would you be interested? It will be free, but you have something to put on your portfolio and I can add you to the credits section.

The project will be 6 months long, but if you don’t take 6 months you don’t have to stay for the entire duration.

If you have a problem with Itch.io, a public discussion page is not the place to do it.

I think your post can stand without the link

I found this post because it would be nice to post dev logs on the platform without them seeing the game listing.

I’ve been wanting to learn Perlin Noise for procedural generation also but it seems too complicated for me.

I always encourage someone to learn web development, you get your own freedom and branding over your page than any other web builder. And It’s easier to learn than you might think and I could guide you through it if needed. You would have to buy a domain though which isn’t terribly expensive.

Portfolio doesn’t look bad, I just don’t think notion is a good place to build a website. If you choose a web builder, you can look into Google Sites (completely free), or SquareSpace or Wix (subscription based with free plans). That’s all I can give you right now.

For freelancing, you can look into Fiverr as it’s the most popular, but it’s pretty competitive and you really need to stand out to have success on the platform.

Oh, okay

Just out of curiosity, why not Unity?

I don’t know hoe to convert screen position to world space but know that’s what I need to do. But also can’t gine tutorials on that. This is where I was getting at.

I’ll read what you gave me and look into the Godot documentation. And honestly didn’t think of Stacl Overflow, I don’t know why.

Thank you for your response,

Based on what I saw from Unity tutorials, those are general steps you have to go through to accomplish user placement. I’m mostly just looking for what tutorials will help me get this done. I looked on YouTube and it’s cluttered with a channel making tutorials with his user placement plugin which you have to pay for, the others don’t help me.

Looked in the Godot forum and the results I get either seem overly complicated or don’t help my specific situation.

Hello, new to game development and wanted to give Godot a try after working with Unity. I’m trying to build a 2D city farm builder with the same mechanics as a city builder.

I know the general process:

  • mouse world position to map position
  • Store the clicked building in a variable
  • Instantiate that prefab when placement is valid

But how would I actually accomplish that? Anyway, I’m trying to find tutorials and the first thing I’ve noticed are there isn’t nearly as many as Unity or you have to look a lot harder to find any that are good. Is there any way I can be directed to find the solution?

Thank you,

I would probably be interested in playing it.

Hi, I’m also just starting out releasing my first game next week. Good luck!

Yeah, that’s fine. It was just a suggestion. If I was the creator, I wouldn’t mess with all that if the game was a prototype or I had no plans for continued support.

Only games I would plan on keeping updated would I put in the effort to do that.

I lost, but bought everything in the shop (except for pineapples) like a fatty.

Hi, it’s been a month since this was posted, so I’m not sure if you’re still interested.

I would be into the free option on Twitch, I’m developing my first game that will be released to itch.io February 1 or 2. It’s a a clicker game and sucks, but feedback would help a lot.

Your profile picture matches very well with this topic. Kind of funny because when you reply or post, it looks like you’re crying.

That’s fine, it’s a pretty simple website which is helpful, thank you.

No, Stripe and Paypal are the only accepted payment options.

Pretty easy, I learned web development in two weeks.

I might have worded my reply wrong. I got onto itch.io to publish my first games that are being developed with the sole purpose to learn game development. I try to make the user experience good, but they will be considered low quality.

I’ll use the clicker game I’m working on for example. I don’t plan on going anywhere with it, maybe continue to add features occasionally. It’s completely playable and the core features are working correctly, just aesthetics wise it’s considered a low-quality game. I spent four months on it, so I have tried and solved any large bugs.

Low quality, playable games go on this platform. If you mean buggy like it gets hard to play, then no.

Google Play and Steam are where I plan to develop high quality games.

Thank you

For future reference, how did you achieve the editable Wikipedia with the textbox?

Yes, moderators can absolutely post projects, look at this creator for an example. If you look at their recent posts, you can see they are a moderator.

Wow, didn’t know front end could do animations with this.

How long have you been into web development, because even the websites you worked on for others are amazing.

Thank you!

Wow, it looks so good, how did you do it? This can’t be HTML, CSS, and JavaScript alone. If so, you’re a really good web developer. I really like the timeline idea, it fits nicely.

I actually found it before this post because you’re everywhere, so I was curious. It looks really good though.

Making a game is extremely difficult
