Description
Two young inventors that live atop an island in the clouds have developed a Winged Mechanism to achieve Flight, and are eager to test their new invention. They are bored and dream of what lays in the other island in the horizon.
Dreamers Lay Atop The Field of Clouds: Theme of the floating island Aeria, the Children's hometown. Lazy, floaty day! Introduces the melodies of Flight (0:10-0:14, 0:40-0:45) The Children are sat on a log working on their Wings.
Two Wings Above The Photon Field: Theme of high-speed Flight. The Children test their Wings, and the experiment is successful... For a while. The Wings proceed to fail. (unfortunately couldn't develop or mix this track as much as I wanted due to time constraints...)
Omen of a Forgotten Temple: Theme of Forgotten Temple and forgotten Technologies. After crash landing into a body of water on the surface, the Children scan the area. They see dilapidated structures dangerous looking creatures in the distance and retreat into the largest and safest looking structure.
Presage of Forgotten Mechanism: Pre-final boss theme. With rapid heartbeats in response to sounds they could hear somewhere behind them, the Children fearfully venture into the Temple, reaching a large central room in which they come across a strange Mechanism. The young inventors examine it until they trigger something, causing their broken wings to glow. Right after, they realize a half-machine Beast has blocked the entryway.
Re-Realization of Shattered Dreams (Phase 1 & 2): Theme of Final Boss. Bells and bright synths return from the first two themes, shining through the still-present darker mood of the third and fourth theme. This keeps the dark feeling of the unknown surface while calling back to the childlike wonder of the clouds and indicating the regained ability of Flight. Combines ideas from all the previous themes:
0:00-1:05: (Presage of Forgotten Mechanism)
0:05-0:10, 0:16-0:21, 0:44-1:05: (Two Wings Above The Photon Field)
0:44-1:05: (Dreamers Lay Atop The Field of Clouds)
1:06-1:49 (directly sampled), 1:50-2:33: (Omen of a Forgotten Temple)
The Children think all is lost, but they realize their Wings are functional. For the first phase of the fight, they lack combat capability and just focus on evading the attacks the Beast throws. In the second phase, the Mechanism has supercharged their Wings. They Re-Realize their Shattered Wings and the lost Technology of their people, allowing them to fight back with powerful light-infused gusts.
After a long battle, the Children are successful in subduing the Beast, and exit the temple, quickly realizing that despite its massive size and the immense power it wielded, the Beast they subdued appeared to be a young one, much smaller than the gargantuan ones they could see in the distance. With their newly powered Wings make their way back up to the clouds. They come to the conclusion that their people had once dwelled on the surface and made it up to the sky in search of safe haven from the Beasts, forgetting their old Technology over the centuries.

It may not be apparent LOL but Kirby OSTs were a big influence for this OST.
Use of bells and bright synths is meant to represent childlike wonder and the clouds/flight.
The increasing use of guitars and synths is to represent technology.

Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I took the idea of "wings" and "childlike" from the image, as well as "Forgotten" from the text theme, using these as my inspiration when coming up with overall sound and story. This gave me a direction where I focused on wings and lost technology, using bells, soft pads and bright synths to achieve both.

I've been listening to your work since comp jam 7 and every time you've delivered a banger soundtrack. Great use of reoccuring motifs throughout and your blend of instruments sounds really nice. I love the energy in Re-Rerealization of Shattered Dreams, definitely feels like a boss fight. Awesome work!
Your way of blending real and electronic instruments is awesome.
I also want to mention that the percussion is insane at times
Two Wings Above The Photon Field is so epic! I really like the contrast in the Omen of a Forgotten Temple, though I do wish to have heard a little more going on (countermelodies, ostinatos, a different section). Overall, I really enjoyed the adventure in this album! :>
Two wings above the photon field and re-realization of shattered dreams were easily my favorites in the OST. I enjoy fast and fun songs and those 2 were very nice. The OST was varied and well made.

Mix doesn't seem any bad on the 2nd track to me, maybe you wanted to emphasize on those crazy synth arrpeggios in the background ? It conveys the sense of speed-flight very well, with the guitars too. Very 2d sidescroller high energy level :)
I liked when the guitars came back in the Forgotten Temple theme, giving a more dramatic tone than in the previous track.
Great cinematic work here ! Can definitely see the acene and feel the urge of the situation. Oh those synths coming at 0.37 ! Almost trance/dance like music haha, it worked great with the already tense atmosphere !
Nice build up on the previous track for the boss battle, the very beginning (with the piano) reminded me of some pokemon Emerald battles with legendary creatures !
So cool to have all the themes coming back and melting in this last battle ! Great storytelling and building !

pretty cool!!!! especially love the use of all the motifs on the final boss theme! one thing that i felt could elevate this ost even more would be having a bit more compression on the drums/breaks especially for track 5, since i feel like that would push the intensity of the theme even more. other than that awesome work!!

I enjoyed this a whole lot! Every single track was really great and I really liked the instrument choices! The leitmotifs were a really nice touch and the story was lovely! (I'm guessing it's unfinished due to time constraints, ahhhhhhhhh)
My favourite track was the final boss theme, the instruments had a release cut thing going that was really satisfying.

I really like how you incorporate your prior tracks in the final boss one, gotta be my favorite. :) Very cohesive soundtrack, with some nice storytelling to go with it. The mix is very clean, and because of how the tracks are structured, I feel like they'd loop very well in a game without feeling too repetitive, great job. :)

Dreamers Lay Atop The Field of Clouds: Groovy and playful track, good interplay between the drums and the bass. I haven't played any Kirby games but I know some of the music, the pink demon popped inside my head while listening to the first track and looking at the pink clouds.
Presage of Forgotten Mechanism: Interesting textures added to the track, what is the texture panned to the left? This might just be my personal taste, but because its atonal it reminds me of listening those old records when they first started releasing stereo songs to the mainstream, where they would pan the snare drum to play only in one speaker. I'd prefer to add to add something tonal to the left side to not make it feel so empty, but there are people who really like L C R panning who would be completely okay with this. I like the texture though, its like pulsing static. The synth panned to the right breaking in and out is a nice touch to the crash landing, reminds me of a radio with poor signal.
Presage of Forgotten Mechanism: Stakes are rising, but still saving some gas in the tank for the final track.
Re-Realization of Shattered Dreams (Phase 1 & 2): Favourite track of the soundtrack. Nice reprisal of the previous leitmotifs, sampling Omen of a Forgotten Temple fits the low energy section of the fight. Ties everything back together alongside a fast break beat, a fitting climax to the journey.
Good twist at the end, didn't expect their world to have such a dark history. Really liked the idea of forgetting the dangers and the technology of old as they are living peacefully in the clouds. Enjoyable submission, good stuff.
Thank you for the detailed feedback! The texture was a preset in one of my synths (pretty sure DX7 but I'll have to check when I get to my computer. I was just trying to fill the atmosphere with that panning but I didn't notice it sounded unbalanced. Yeah those sounds were meant to sound like old/broken machinery noises (broken wings and the tech in the temple)
Wow, my favorite soundtrack rn ! Really energic, upbeat and ofc really well made. Some tracks reminded me of Void Strangers, and it's a first for this jam, so I'm really enjoying it ! My favorite are the 2nd and 5th, especially two wings, it joined my playlist !

amazing work as always KaS!!!! all tracks are solid, but my favorites are 2 and 5, both bangersss i can't decide which one i like more though, maybe 5 phase 2 if i had to choose! track 1 also gave me a pretty good first impression, i like that one a lot as well. i also really like the story and interpretation of the theme you went with!
by the way, i know this is the second time i want to shamelessly steal instruments from your songs... but i love the guitar used in "Two Wings Above The Photon Field", may i know the source?
