So good! Incredible level of polish and again so much content. You guys don't miss a beat!
Too bad I'm too late to rate this, woulda been straight 5s from me!

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks so much! But you probably played the patch I dropped like a min after voting ended. It was a lot rougher during the jam, I always forget how the four day time frame is super tight. But glad you liked it none the less. Hope to see you guys again in the next one :)

Ofc!

Hidden gem for me, its so fun!

I tried this a couple times, and I'm not sure I get it...
The visuals are sick, the audio is neat, and the concept seems to build really well on what you guys already made before (House Rules) with the grid based puzzle/strategy, but I'm not sure exactly how the system works (very well might be me having difficulty understanding more than the fault being with the tutorial period), and there's always a feel that even if I launch the exact setup a couple times I might not get the exact same result, but I'm not exactly sure about that too...
Cool concept though, and looks polished as hell!!!

Okay this is definitely among my top favorites! The presentation is really good and the game is simple with a lot of surprising depth. I could see myself playing this regularly on the phone during short breaks!

Submitted(+1)

criminally underrated submission! the artstyle is so unique- don't think i've seen anything like it! gameplay is super fun and digestable as well. soundtrack absolutely rocks too. this may be one of my favorite games ive seen so far

Submitted(+1)

Super fun, and I really love the visuals. Also OH MY LORD the level select music is so good. Please tell me I'll be able to listen to this on some platform down the road.

Submitted(+1)

very entertaining gameplay, a lot of trial and error involved but very fun nonetheless! love the flower theming and aesthetic a lot, i vibe with the pixel art HEAVY!!!

Submitted(+1)

Very pretty pixel art style and fun gameplay. Being a chess lover myself I enjoy placing down my pawns and predicting how they would move when I hit start although some of the levels requires more of a trial and error approach.

There is a bug I encountered where the level select button is hidden behind a banner that didn't go away for some reason (see screenshot). And the sound effect of the colonel talking is quite loud and awful.

Other than that, this is a very enjoyable game. Good work on the submission!

I like the game! Very interesting combination, feels like a good puzzle. It would be nice to have some step by step predictions of where a unit would move though, because some of them move very unpredictably, making it more of trial and error game, rather than a unique puzzle. Also I think the budget was a bit too generous, since it's easy to complete levels without using half of the troops. The art and audio are really nice! One of my favorites so far! Good job!

Vert creative game! The artwork was very unique, and I never got tired from the music - and I appriciated how it flows to the combat theme

I'm not sure about the gameplay - it's very unique, like most other things in the game, but it didn't fully worked for me. At first I really liked it - it's seem like a combination between chess and auto battler, which is really cool. However, I found it very hard to predict where the pieces are going - for example, the flower the jumps diagonally, I wasn't sure if it's start from right or left, and it was hard to predict if it will attack first - a preview of the movement might help there. But then the game introduced pieces with more complex movement, and larger boards, and everything got very chaotic.. I wasn't able to plan ahead so winning seem like it was based on luck

The standout thing for me surprisingly was the writing! I really liked the upbeat general and the flower boss that just want to hide lol. I appriciated that there is secret walkthrough for the last level in the screenshots, otherwise I would've probably missed the ending. The game works really well and even the board is movable! Fantastic job

That's a big achievement on its own to come up with this creative mechanism and drive to such finish level! We invented a card game mechanism last year so totally can see how challenging it is. But you guys absolutely did an amazing job!

I particularly love the visual style. Retro yet have its own flavor. One minor UX improvement could be making it more clear that the left side troops are actually the one to be dragged, it took me a few trial and errors lol. Overall great work and finish level! Bravo

One of the levels I only solved by dumb luck, but a cool aesthetic and story seed !

Submitted(+1)

Extremely fun and polished. All of the levels felt really rewarding to beat. I found it difficult to understand some of the mechanics like the shields, but after understanding everything, its easily a 10/10!

One of the best looking games I've seen in this jam.  The rendering and color choices are amazing. As the others said it's impressive to do this in 4 days ! Even had the time to craft some story
A bit unclear how the units will work at first, but since you can easily retry your choices and the flowers stay at their place, I didnt feel any frustration at all !

The gameplay has so much potential, with enough variety and bigger maps or events on the maps itcould be a great puzzle game like into the breach.

Developer

Thanks a bunch, the comparison to into the breach is big praise!

Yes we totally plan to clarify how each of them works and to add in some extra sfx and graphics to fights.

Hopefully a new patch will deliver on that vision even more, thanks for playing and commenting!

Absurd. Ridiculous. Insane. This was made in 4 days??????????? I can't even comprehend it. First off, the art. WHAT????? How did you make so much peak quality art???? It's gorgeous. Did you sell your soul to the devil??? Next, the music. I mean, it's perfect. It fits, it's a bop, what else can I say. I want the title screen music on my playlist. Also, the writing. Your honor, it's fire. "Scum and bad" from Colonel Gronblast got me laughing my head off. I love the world you've created, this grungy flower x robot military vibe is so awesome. I need to know more of the lore immediately. Oh no, sorry, silly old me forgot to mention the UI. IT'S THEMATICAL AND THERE'S BUTTONS TO SEE THE DIALOGUE AGAIN???? bro. bro. bro. bro. There's a little button added to congratulate you after winning?? THATS SO CUTE. Just all the little details are insane. I dragged the battlefield behind the reserves box to punish the evil enemy team when they killed me. Literally the only thing missing imo would be some sfx during the battle. And that's the smallest problem in the world. It's not even a problem. Oh no my steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery. You guys are beasts. In the best possible way.

Developer(+1)

Hahaha! Thanks so much, wow what a glowing review. We were really crunching hard to get this done and massive props to Jacob would did the backend and Gabe who did all of our music. They really did a fantastic job as always. For the art, every jam I do all the art fresh except sometimes using other peoples fonts. But Ive been really blown away honestly by how much people like the aesthetic! It was just supposed to be an experiment for me to see how far I could use a more limited palette.

For the music, I'll see if I can get gabe to upload that to spotify or youtube at somepoint, but hes always performing for a couple bands hes in lol. So no promises but Ill try my best.

Also very grateful that you played it through and we plan to butter this lobster a lil more so stay tuned! :)

This had such a sick style, damn!! Despite having quite different visual elements (more realistic/cartoony/retro game styles) you did a great job at neatly wrapping them together. Some sound design for the movements could have been great, but an easy thing to add later. Great work!

Developer

Thanks so much! I do a lot of pixel art as well as image quantizing (taking photos and reducing their colors and making them pixel art), I did the same in our last jam too. But this time, I was trying it a limited palette of eight colors and found they really worked much better than when I used them with a 32 color palette.  So I really leaned into it and am very happy everyone likes the aesthetic!

For the sound design, you're very right. We got a bit ambitious for the four days as we normally do and had to cut a lot of planned stuff. But we're fully planning on adding, SFXs as well as better tutorializing and browser mobile compatibility post jam.
Thanks again for playing!

Beautiful game! Nicely done.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

A very polished and good looking game. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing and enjoying!

(+1)

Really nice game though a bit confusing at first. I'd love to see this expanded into a full game at some point :>

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I added a little movement guide to the description to try and help ease some of the learning pains, will add a similar guide into the game in a patch after. But Four days is really a crunch, one of those projects that I think would be 30% better with even half a days more polish.

Honestly considering the three day deadline it is a really good game

Submitted(+2)

Love the style and music here! Would be nice to show troops move patterns a bit more clear where possible

Developer

Yeah the game could use more tutorializing and clarity there. It's a known weak point and we'll probably add it in a patch post jam at somepoint. But thanks for playing and the kind words about the style and music!
