Chess uses clocks, Boxing also counts down, and even the deck of cards is being counted down. It might not be a contender for the best count down, but possibly for the most countdowns

This is such an amazing idea lol I was completely thrown off by the fact I had to do chess puzzles. Amazing game, well done

I had the similar idea but I would never have put chess in there in a million years. The game you made is both funny and fun, I had a great time!

I love this game! I think it’s really cool! I think I would replay, I really like the mechanics of the game, just a bit fruster for losing on the ladders, but I’m going to improve and win next time!

The vision for this game is really good! I think it really needs improvement in clarity for what the player has to do and how long is left. Keep working on it and you have yourself a good game. Good work! I played this on stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/nebsterlive

Really unique and interesting concept, sadly, while I think both gameplays are really fun separetly, together they don't mesh greatly. I still think the idea has a lot of merit and again, the two types of gameplay are well done and fun, but the change between one and the other is too sudden and both are too different to work as one unit. All the rest of the assests are also good for how tight I imagine the schedule must have been and the fact the whole game doesn't have many technical issues with the limited time definetly deserves praise.

You're right, we had some ideas to make it more cohesive, as currently they're quite independent, but didn't get the time to integrate it. Ideally the player would have to choose to either prioritize chess or boxing, but that's not that much present in the current version. It was still a cool idea to explore. Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Weird and creative. Having chess problems is fun, but I'm not sure people who don't play chess will agree.

I encountered a softlock bug, where the puzzle was already solved and I couldn't do anything to carry on.(Screenshot of the puzzle). I think it was the previous puzzle I solved before the boxing round.

Really good job, the art an vibe are amazing!

Thank you so much! And thanks for the report, i did find a couple of similar bugs when the box/chess switch happens in the middle of a move, so will have to look back at that. Glad that some people did enjoy the chess puzzles though!

Really clever concept! Even though I'm terrible at chess, I still had a lot of fun!

Cool game had fun... couldn't get past the first boxer though...

I cracked up at this, but played way to late to be able to make meaningful and strategic choices with the gameplay. Great job.

Played through the whole game 3 times. love the sound effects lol. Well done

I am not smart enough for the chess part but I quite enjoyed it regardless!!! I love the charge up sound effect so much

Quite the creative affair, complete nonsense but strangely tasteful (could have benefitted from a  lot of quality of life things, the game might feel a  bit like you are prey to RNG

very cool art and game but I was also confused on what to do in the chess part. It was not letting me do the moves. I probably should/will try this again and read stuff.

Yeah, we didn't get time to do more explaining in the game, but during chess the ref will tell yoyu a price to pay, which you pay in cards, and then solve the chess puzzle. Right click to discard any cards if you need different cards for paying the cost

Thanks for playing!

I will try again :)
I love chess puzzles.

Fun game. A very interesting video game interpretation of chess boxing. I was confused about why I had to supply the cards that the ref wanted in order to play chess. But once I understood it, I was off to the races.  Super impressed that you could get the logic of a chess game working in a game jam. Well done!

Developer

Hey thanks a lot! Honestly for the chess part we just simplified the problem at its core, that's why there's only puzzles. In reality we have no chess engine, just a list of problems with the correct move, so anything else is counted as wrong, and there's nothing stopping you from doing an illegal move. So there's the trick for you ;)

This is a really fun idea I'm too bad at chess to enjoy fully, lmao. It's really clever to tie both halves of the game together with the same deck of cards mechanic to make it cohesive, kudos!

My brain is too dumb to figure out the solutions to chess puzzles but the card one was really good. Overall a fun game to play

Please play and rate my game as well

The turn/card based boxing mechanic was really fun. I'm not very good I chess and sometimes if you didn't  have the right cards you would have to wait out the timer. Other than that well done!

Developer

Yeah, it's not well indicated but you can discard cards with right click. Thank you so much for playing!!

i like the idea of fihting with cards, really cool concept !

I liked the scrungly graphics.  It had an intentional vibe that was well executed!

I did sadly run into a softlock during the chess part of the competition.  The ref was asking for a charge card, and I had none in my hand, so I had to wait out the timer :( It probably would have been better for the ref to ask for a random card from your hand, rather than a random card in general.  That way your hand would still be disrupted going into the chess portion of the game, but you wouldn't be locked out for a minute at a tim

Developer

Hi, thanks so much for the feedback! We didn't get enough time to add indications or tutorials, but basically if you right click you can discard any card. The idea is to manage your resources knowing that if you run out of cards you loose, or that sometimes keeping the 12 for boxing might cost you a lot of discards on the other cards. Of course for the gameplay loop to be solid it would still need a lot of balancing and play testing that we couldn't do haha, Thanks for playing!

Oh, that makes both halves of the game play so much more smoothly!  I totally missed the right click explanation in the description!  😅

With the ability to discard, I'm happy to say that I managed to get the KO :)
