The whole mechanic of weather affecting enemy types is pretty creative! I would've liked to have the option of a traditional WASD+Mouse for controls instead of just the current arrow keys. Enemies disappearing and popping up after getting hit confused me a bit because i was unsure when did one of my strikes actually destroythem and i can move away. The game is also described as a hack and slash, so i was expecting high speed and killing enemies quickly in droves, but it played more as a methodical hit>dodge and avoid enemies>go back and hit again, so that messed up my experience a bit. Also, adding diagonal movement and attack to our player would've felt more smooth and fair, considering enemies can already attack and move in 8 directions. Nevertheless, great music and concept, well done!
Glad you had some fun! Yeah, in retrospect, hack-and-slash wasn’t the right word to use, but I couldn’t think of what else to call it xD It’s definitely a more deliberate, retro-style battler like you said.
There actually is both diagonal movement and attacking! It took a long time to animate lol. Maybe it wasn’t working for you?
Yep, when i was playing i could only strafe with four directions, so maybe it was indeed probably not working for me!
Curious, what input device were you playing on (keyboard or gamepad)? If on gamepad, what gamepad were you using? If there’s an issue preventing diagonal movement for some people, I’d like to fix it!
I was only using keyboard. I went back in to test out the input again and strangely enough sometimes it'd work right away, and sometimes it won't especially when starting a level, or when hitting an obstacle like bridge/water, the directional movements doesn't play afterwards.
The music changing with the weather was a great touch! Some of the movement could be fine tuned to smooth out the dodging, maybe add some sort of way to move faster or dodge the bullets (like a dash?).
Love the theme!
Thanks for playing! You can dash with left shift / right trigger, which should help.
The concept and the music are so great !!!
I really loved it :) you did a great job
this game has some of the best music ive seen this jam! The artwork is great too! the gameplay is challenging but very fun. 5\5!
I spent many attempts running up to the enemy and pressing attack as fast as possible before I noticed the game intends your combat style to be slower and more methodical, but once I figured that out the game was a lot more fun. The death animation and level transitions are a bit long if you're like me and played 20+ rounds without getting past level 2.
Tough game, but one can learn patterns to master it. Arena challenge!
Wow, this is a game of patience... Some levels took me a lot more than 3 minutes to complete. Avoiding bullets until the timing is right to place a hit. Waiting, waiting, _hitting_. Waiting, waiting, _hitting_.
The game really ressembles more a strategic and patience game than a hack&slash. And I like it !
The music makes me think of an old game I used to play. 5/5.
Very cool entry, I'll play it again a bit later when my brains have cooled down. Thanks for the game!
Thanks for sticking it through!
I’m glad the music worked out! I’m curious what game it reminded you of…
Dofus !
I quite like the art and the concept for the game. I just wish the movement was a bit faster for the player, that the enemies were more melee based instead of all bullet-based, or we could at least charge the scythe while moving. It just felt like the enemies would keep overwhelming you with bullets everywhere and you would either get hit by new bullets if you got close for melee or wouldn't be able to dodge while charging the scythe. I still like the game, but it just felt kinda clunky in combat.
Great music and art! Would increase a bit the movement speed of the character, the enemy bullets felt too difficult to avoid. Please check our entry!
Glad you enjoyed the music :) The player is a bit slow right now… dashing a lot (shift/right trigger) might help speed you up a bit.
Really creative approach of the theme. As mentioned, the sounds are great :). Also love the pixel art and color choices. Qutie a challenging game, got stuck between a bridge and the edge where i thought i could go, but the monster got me haha. Good choice to let the player get some life refill between levels. Love the change of weather and the scope is great. Fun game and nice work!
The music and sound design are insanely good ! love it. But the game feel way too hard, bullet being faster than yourself and getting stuck every where didn't help.
I liked the concept. The music and the art were great! It is a bit punishing, but I felt it was a good challenge. gg
A neat concept!
pros:
I liked the music changing along with the scenery!
cons:
- I went back to level 1 after dying at level 2, more punishing than expected.
- The bullets went through my character at times and was unsure how close i needed to be to attack without getting hit i could get to enemies at times. perhaps add a shadow to the hitboxes of entities? bullets also went through some scenery and stopped at others.
Very fun game! I really like the music, art and how the character controls. Admittedly, I only lasted a minute and had too big of a skill issue to see the weather change, but it sounds like a great concept! My only issue was that I had a bug where when I encountered the bouncy enemy, the bouncing sound effect kept repeating even after I died. Otherwise, great game!
I love the idea of the weather affecting the scenario and the fights. Maybe making the wind change directions every few seconds? I got stuck in a corner haha. The character is a bit slow but it can be helped by using the dash a lot. Throwing the scythe is miles better than attacking melee, even if you have to stay still for a bit. Very good game, and the art is also very nice.
I died almost immediately every attempt haha but I love the character design and the music! Throwing the scythe was quite satisfying.
Love the Art, Game seems a bit too hard and unforgiving while i played it. But thats simply a skill issue on my end. Ill probably going to give it another attempt tomorrow with new Strength :D
I want to see more of the mechanic, but I suck to much to get past the first level 🤣 Dug the music though, and the kid says “good good”
Great idea, I liked how the wind affected the combat. And the dynamic music was really well done!
For a hack and slash the player character felt a bit slow, and especially in winter the bullets were hard to spot, but that could just be the challenge for that weather.
Yep, the contrast issue in snowy weather is something we’re aware of. We’ll try to fix it when we do a post-jam update after the rating period. Thanks for playing (and nice work making it to the second/third level, which I’m assuming you did if you’ve seen the wind mechanic)!
I'm stuck at the first scene, how do i start playing?
Sorry, should’ve put a button prompt in! You can press Z to continue.
