As others have said it was too hard to figure out what commands were expected at first. But when the death screens specifically hint at what commands to use it was very fun. The loop of trying the first thing that comes to mind > failing > getting a hint for the next step > trying the next thing is actually very fun; without explicitly needing a lexicon of commands. So I think it just needs a little tuning. Otherwise the art style is so unique and charming. I've never heard of lvllvl before so I will be checking it out.
Really neat!
Yeah see! There are hints when you die in different ways etc.. Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it! <3
I really liked trying to figure out what to do under time pressure. I do wish there was a word lexicon in-game and not just as a screenshot. There were also some inconsistensies on when you could do certain things, like moving outside the castle. But still, I really enjoyed it
Yay thank you so much!
Yeah I did originally have a help command in-game. But removed it do the game wasn't too easy. Oops!
Reminds me of old text based adventure games, cool concept. The pixel art is cute, I couldn't get past the knight, the restart button didn't work either. I think the game would benefit from maybe giving the player more hints on what specific words to use or add more actions to the whitelist, I feel like commands such as (strike knight) or fight knight should at least give a hint on why they won't work and steer the player in the right direction.
Ambitious game, and nice job implementing the theme!
Thank you! I removed the help command and couldn't re-add it once the game was released. There's info on the webpage though. Thank you for playing! I'll have to look into the knight restart issue, sorry!
I wasn't able to replicate the not restarting on knight scene. You're not the only person with this issue though. Hmm..
Really challenging, but a cool concept to put a timer on a text game like this, like a typing speed test. Love the artwork!
Wow thank you so much! <3
Also oops! The first barrel is meant to appear after 2 seconds, not 12 seconds. My mistake! When I upped the time limit from 20s to 30s, I forgot to change the barrel timer. Sorry about that!
Can't get past the knight. Not sure if I'm missing something, but it doesn't seem like any of the commands work for that part? It also seemed like it wasn't restarting with pressing "Enter" at that point, so I just had to refresh the page to start again.
Oh weird! Did it work after you refreshed?
It worked again until I got to the knight :(
I've not been able to replicate the knight issue. It's so odd.
Loved the art style, really reminded me of those DOS text adventures so you nailed that spirit!
Yay thank you!!
It reminds me of using a terminal, I really like that. It took me some time to figure out how to play though, since there was no Help Command, maybe you should put the Commands in the description aswell rather than just as an Image (I thought it was just a screenshot)
Thank you for playing!
Oh okay I can do that too!
I adore the art style but I have no idea how to play this, and this is coming from a boomerish 46yo who grew up on text and point and click adventures.
Thank you so much! <3
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to upload a fix re-adding the help command in again? I could include it on the webpage though?
I don't think it's allowed, unfortunately! I'd love to add a web version of my own game because downloadable games get the short end of the stick, but I can't do that.
I added it to the description of the page at least!
That should definitely help!
Creative concept and artwork
I would love to have small help command or some tips
Congratulations on your submission!
Thank you!
I'll re-add the help info to the webpage at least, thank you!
Very interesting game, i love the art. but boy it this a challenge, i have no idea what to type to get into the castle gate and having to wait until they chuck a barrel is a little annoying, either way cute little game, maybe a dictionary of accepted words might help, keep up the great work Mate! -Eric
Said dictionary was originally available for the player to see, but I wanted to game to last more than 20 seconds. I'll look to adding it to the webpage at least, thank you!
The issue with text-based games like this is that there are synonyms that are not accounted for. For example, I should be able to type "put on armor" instead of "wear armor" and have it still work. Same thing for "take sword" and "take shield"
I did try to add as many of those as I could think of, you can "get off of horse" for example. I'll make a note of the "put on armor" one, thank you!
Really original art and gameplay, it was fun having to learn what words I had to use, and really hard, unfortunately I only got as far as the Black Knight
Thank you! I didn't realise how difficult it might be for new-comers sorry! I'll see about adding help info to the webpage at least!
It's too open ended. I don't know the specific commands you want me to type in. Like I see from the comments the first command is "wear armor" but if you type "wear the armor" or any variation like "put on the armor" it fails. For a full game you are going to have to teach it all the different ways of saying "wear armor". But for the game jam I would of just had it as long as you type "armor" you will proceed. Or have multiple choice with 1 options being right. Or make it a click game where you can click the armor. It's too specific in what it wants.
In the end I think this can be a really cool idea. But the game needs to be smart enough to know what the player means.
Thank you for the feedback. The original "Don't Shit Your Pants" did have a list of commands you could type and the description of the game only gave you "look" to start things off. I was aiming for a similar level of mystery. I can at least add the help info to the webpage. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to re-add the help command to the game now that the jam has ended?
I tried but the only command I found was the one you mentioned, "wear the armor". I tried "Fight" but the games asks "who"; obviously the horse, but it didn't work.
Ah sorry yeah maybe I should've included the help command. Saddle the horse too btw!
Yeah, probably the help command should have stayed. Don't be sorry, we all make games and that happens all the time, not everyone understands our art.
I''m not sure if I'm allowed to upload a fix re-adding the help command in again? I could include it on the webpage though?
I'm too stupid to play this
I did originally have a "help" command. I removed it 'cos I didn't want it to be too easy. It's such a quick game.
Try using "look" and in the first room you want to wear your armour.
