I made it to 3rd I'm so happy
congrats, thats awesome!
I just looked at the replay, your setup is pretty creative
Thank you, I took inspiration from the person in second, but modified it a bit.
Hey RonLon, I'm making this into a full game if you want to give it another shot: https://yummypotato99.itch.io/doodle-towers. Thanks for playing during the jam!
I think that was novel tower defence game and felt well balanced. The randomization made it very replayable. And of course the artstyle is just adorable! Well done!
this is great! what a fun little tower defender
The art is wonderfull! I really love it! I would have loved more units and a visible grid to snap the blocks to! Well done!
the art is super cute, & the game with its tight time limit is super addicting and fun! i think i would love some sort of fast-forward when the waves are coming so i can get to building my next tower faster.
There is a fast forward during battle in the top left, its the button shaped like a ">", it definitely needs to be more obvious because it blends in with the sound controls right now
One of my favorite games yet. Super cool. Super fun.
I also love global leaderboards, so I'm sure to come back post-game jam!
Great job!
I beat your high score! I'm 33rd now.
I worked on this game a bit more and now its got a rank system, if you ever want to climb again: https://yummypotato99.itch.io/doodle-towers, thanks for playing during the jam!
Wait, what?! I'm definitely going to be playing this!
Very fun game. Loved how the blocks do different things depending on where and how they are placed. Could NOT get too much higher than 2 minutes. Great game. Will be back to try to get higher in the rankings after the jam is over. Added it to my collection! Loved this game so much.
Hey BasementDreams, I'm planning on making this into a full game: https://yummypotato99.itch.io/doodle-towers, feel free to check it out!
Really fun, I've grinding but can't seem to beat my score when I just played randomly.
I love the little characters and synergies between the blocks.
Great job!
thanks for playing! The balance is a bit off, so the game is a little too luck dependent right now
Hey Nilssius, thanks for playing, I'm planning on making a full version of the game and it has a lot more content now if you want to give it another shot: https://yummypotato99.itch.io/doodle-towers
This kinda reminded me of the bloons tower defense games. It was fun but slightly confusing in the beginning as to how to set up your tower but enjoyable nonetheless!
Cute and interesting game. I like the animation so much. Love they mix together. Good job!
This game is really fun, but i really need more towers and archers..
These birds and blobs don't stand a chance against my tower
It's really as fun as it looks.
I think a lot has been said about this entry, so here's highlighting somethings you might not have noticed and why I think they showcase top tier gamedev behavior.
Yes, some blocks are just better than others, and yes you can reroll blocks. In the rush of the countdown clock, you might not have noticed though, you have a resource, gold! That's right, there is a maximum castle you can theoretically build, and no matter how quick you are on the reroll button, a minimum chance to get it!
That quickly evolves this game scope. Now, instead of binary best and worst strategy, we have the grey zone in the middle. "Making best with what you have". It's very very often overlooked in this competition and I think this tiny detail deserves heaps of attention. Are you really going to pray for the rare 3rd column king carpenter with two rolls on the clock, or just have him now?
On first glance, this is "just another countdown game". It's patently untrue here. The countdown isn't a loss condition, it's a scalar on the gameplay. It exists to encourage the player to make mistakes, and reward quick thinking, which elevates this above the usual "Do X in Y or you lose".
You've got a strong common consensus here that we'd like to see more content. No happier critique can you get. However, what I'd specifically want to see in content first, before new blocks (the easy road) is new challenges. Give me a reason to not always start the game with two walls in the bottom right. Give me an arial assault wave, or something to defend against with a warrior. You've put a seen amount of care into accessibility. The fast-forward mechanic is really well received until you let me click the little guys and have them go 'kwoo?' to entertain me.
I don't mind certain blocks and characters being worse off, IE, it's how we create the grey-zone gamespace to begin with, but even bad blocks could be buffed to work in say a rare comedy build.
I think the next obvious steps are to draw more playtime and mental rent out of the player. I can see a few strategies outside of a leaderboard, and I'm certain you've already been thinking through them yourself.
Outstanding work!
Thanks for playing and leaving such an in depth game analysis, I really enjoyed reading the writeup. You point out a lot of decisions that I made instinctively that I couldn't articulate, which was super cool.
This is soo fun haha, great job!
It's adorable! Really great entry, solid little game, I had a lot of fun :)
Very fun, the leaderboard is really cool too! Love how cute the art/audio are :)
Greatt game i was stuck playing itfor hours tryin to get a better score. However it seems a little bit unbalanced the amount of luck you need to get the right item. I think it would be better if you could get results by using the quirks of each item evenly, for ex if you get a lot of archers with outposts you get a better time. Just my opinion for future updates, Really good game though!
Thanks for the feedback and playing it so much! I have some updates planned so there will be better balancing, stay tuned!
Hey chrysli, I have made some updates to the game and I plan on it becoming a full game sometime in the future, if you liked the jam version, you might like this one too. Feel free to check it out https://yummypotato99.itch.io/doodle-towers, thanks for the feedback!
fun approach to tower defense, especially given the constraints (only 1 mins to build) and the leaderboard at the end. good stuff!
Super neat idea. I spend way too much time trying to optimise my run. Very good entry for this jam good job !
Super cute and really fun to play! The sounds are really satisfying and I love the lil guys. Overall very enjoyable, congrats on this awesome entry!
