The game great atmosphere and quite of a “Golden triangle” balance, like u have to manage oxygen, while constantly swicting between guns and gravity gun (OR Zero Point Energy Manipulator (i got your half life 2 reference).
Great atmosphere & Visuals, made me feel really immeresed (idk how to spell those fancy words), great game :D
Thanks :D
Game has great atmosphere, it was fun exploring around, nice audio aswell. Even tho i dont love "tank" controls, it was enjoyable. I didnt get to see the ending but i played for like 15 minutes, i get to the open field, and these giant machines started to attack and they were very tanky. Couldnt manage to get past them since they just swarm you and you have no way of killing them all, i got one or two but still. Wish i could see the ending if there were one.
Great atmosphre, artstyle, and sound.
Thank you! Happy you liked the atmosphere. You made it close enough to the end! The intended idea was to follow the lights in the open field and use your flare to scare the big enemies away but the flare is the least tutorialized thing in the game so it's not clear that you should use it. Still though, glad you enjoyed most of it!
Really liked the mood of the game, eerie and tense, where the game have you constantly checking around the corners and also checking your oxygen level. The horror here that I could think of is the players keep scaring themselves, imaging what horrors is right around the corner.
Also, the game is good in setting up the mystery for the world, making the player motivated to explore the world. Overall, a very solid entry! :D
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game :D
WOW you really cooked with this one. Honestly I'm so impressed, there's so many clever design decisions here. The choice to not show the player their oxygen remaining, the choice to use orange lights in the environment that look like enemies, the choice to have the player switch between items. All of those work together so well to contribute to the tense atmosphere. I also love the shader work you've done, I'd love to know how you achieved this style. Only commend it probably a damage indicator for enemies that take more than one hit, it's a switch up from everything previous so it's hard to tell. Nothing else to say, this was amazing, probably my favorite entry so far. You've improved a ton since last year visually and it shows! fantastic work :D
Thank you!! Glad the atmosphere hit!
For the visuals it's a mix of using a render texture to have a pixelated 3d look, post processing with the main aspects of it being the shadows, mid-tones and highlights, I made the shadows quite dark and have a dark blue tint and the mid-tones have a yellow/green tint. The default fog is used, experimented with finding a nice density and color for that. There's a full screen shader graph material that has dithering and posterization. Screen space ambient occlusion is also on. But the main unique aspect of the visuals is that the camera is orthographic and not perspective, it's a pretty cool look but made the code for aiming to the mouse a lot trickier -_-
That is a very good point on enemies that take multiple hits, I never really considered this much so I'll think about what could work. I appreciate the kind words, happy to hear I've improved! Hope to continue that upward trend lol.
Wow, very nice entry. And so polished! Love the perspective and the camera movement, supports environment and atmosphere well! I felt almost scared to take another turn (I don't often play games like that haha). Well done, congrats!
Thank you! Glad the atmosphere hit. Hope it wasn't too scary lol, thanks for playing!
The atmosphere of the game is AMAZING!!! The sfx, art style, gameplay (especially the gun recoil that gives it weight) all contribute really well to making me feel like I'm in this terrifying underwater scenery!!!
Sometimes I felt a bit more lost than I feel like I should've been, but that might just be because I'm not that great at this kind of game lol .-.
Congrats on your entry :))
Thank you so much! Glad you like the vibe! It is a dark game, while the level is mostly linear it can be hard to see where to go, I could add a few more subtle lights to show where to go for sure. Glad you enjoyed overall!
Really well done entry ! I love the mood and the visuals !
My only complain is the UI that can go in the way of the cursor in close combat. Despite that, I think it's a strong entry in the jam !
Thanks! Fair enough on the UI, not sure what I'd do to fix it but I do agree it can be an issue sometimes, I'll have to think about it more!
It says a lot about a devs design sensibilities when I can blast through a tutorial dialogue, rock up to the first puzzle with no context and intuitively understand the nature of the puzzle whilst still providing a challenge. This is an absolutely awesome entry with some masterclass atmosphere design, the lighting setup (LOVE the dithering) gives such a claustrophobic which the lack of oxygen only adds to over time.
Great both artistically and mechanically, very INSIDE which is one of my favourite puzzle games. Awesome title.
Thank you!! This is such a nice comment. I really tried hard to make the level clear to understand so I appreciate the nice words! Glad you like the visuals too!
You know what, I really love this game!
It pulls me in to the world building around it. Why are there screens? Why are there eyes in this place? How did I end up here? What happened after?
The gameplay surely helped amplify the atmosphere and idea of this world I'm playing in.
Kudos to everyone who worked on this game! Good job!
Game play comments would be, I just shot through all the enemies in fear that they might bite my ass. And also the follow the light open area, I just went straight through (Maybe not really straight) but made it to the cave.
10/10! Hopefully there's more?
Thank you so much! Glad you like the environment! Not a bad idea to shoot all enemies lol, the flare is mostly just a helpful tool if needed. Maybe I'll make it into a bigger game, I'll spend some time thinking about it once this jam is completely finished. Thanks for the long and nice comment!
I'm so bad with horror games and finding my way around in the dark and this game hits both of those.
The inventory design is very smooth, the ambiance was very good. Shooting in the background, echoing, monstrous creatures coming out of the dark Something is dangerously wrong with this scene.
In the end I got lost running around in the dark.
I think it's a really interesting game! An ammo system that refills slowly over time, would add to the tension as you can't just shoot at anything that moves.
Thank you! I'm happy you tried even if it isn't the kind of game you're great at lol. Glad you liked the inventory and ambiance! A proper ammo system and resource management would for sure be a nice addition, if I were to make this a full game that would definitely be in!
Another incredibly underrated gem. Truly a standout in the narrative department.
First off, the visuals. The game has incredible models, and the low resolution nature of the game makes the light sources in the dark all the more ominous. The juice and UI feel very cohesive with the game's style. The atmosphere is creepy and charged, and contributes immensely to the narrative of the game. Environmental design is S tier, with mostly clear guidance for the next step and what to do. This leads us to gameplay: As you explore this underwater facility and uncover more, you also have to keep a mental map and keep track of both oxygen usage and the tools available to you. While the movement was a bit awkward a first, solving puzzles and shooting enemies felt really good! Again, thanks to the polish and game juice.
The storytelling is mostly not explicitly spelled out, but it's clear something horrible was discovered/made which culminates in a cosmic(?) horror narrative.
The lack of music elevates the ambience sounds, and the UI is clear and functional.
I AM surprised the gun works that well under water!
Overall, an incredible entry. A recourse management-puzzle game with a unique perspective of what it means to have a timer count down(Themed as oxygen). Would buy a full steam game in this style.
While I already said it on discord, thank you! I'm glad the vibe hit, I typically like making the atmosphere/vibe of my games one of the most important things, so I'm glad you like it so much! Happy to hear you enjoyed the gameplay too.
XD I never actually considered the gun working underwater.
Thanks for such a long detailed comment, it means a lot!
Wow I dig the atmosphere, it was very convincing on that point. I felt like all the four tools were each useful, and the fact that you can open up the tutorial again helps! You were also generous on the oxygene, I finished with like fifteen left, so it didn't stress me out that much.
I thought I would get lost in the level because the level art looks mostly the same everywhere, and it's very dark, but surprisingly I never once got lost and always was going forwards, so great job on that point!
The controller was a bit slow and unresponsive, but I think it also contributes to the global feel of the game. The camera was nice too!
Well done!
Thank you! I'm glad the balance of using all the tools was there! Good to hear the level design was clear enough too. Glad you enjoyed!
Wow what a treat for the senses. If i could describe the vibes coming off this game i would say Deadspace underwater. The atmosphere and diagetic gameplay was really amazing. Seriously this is so impressive. Sadly i was following the lights along the rope in the open and the big enemy charged me and depleted a lot of my health. I restarted back at the beginning and just didn’t have it in me to go back and do all those things again. That said, thats not a comment on the quality of this game (check points would be nice i think) but wow.. just wow, incredible submission. Good job!
Thank you so much! There are checkpoints, but I guess they didn't work for some reason, oof, oh well. Glad you enjoyed despite that, glad you liked the vibe, thanks for playing!
I love retro looking horror games, and this really scratched that itch. The art and dithering were great, and the tank controls were that perfect level of sluggish where it wasnt frustrating, but I stil felt out of control when I was swarmed. Think the oxygen supply and refills were so much that ti never felt like a count dow (At least not a sonic style drowning), would have been cool to have fewer refills and pick them up as you go, as I spent the latter half of the game wondering if I was just gonna run out 3 tanks before the end. Great game overall.
Thank you so much! I definitely added more oxygen refills than needed, I could of been a bit more lenient but I wanted to make sure people who don't play this kind of game often or maybe got a little stuck would have a chance. In my own testing 15-20 refills seemed like a good amount but I wanted to be sure lol. I do like the idea of picking them up but starting off with only a few. Glad you enjoyed overall!
Congrats on your game release! Was hesitant to play this game as I have thalassophobia, but luckily it was doable. It does feel a bit sluggish (but I suppose that's just underwater behavior), but enjoyable otherwise!
Thank you! I didn't want to make it too scary lol, though I don't think I'm good enough at making horror to do so if I tried lol. Glad you enjoyed, fair enough on the movement, I wanted it be sluggish on purpose but I get that it could of been a bit more responsive. Thanks!
Really really cool game!!! the physics are a bit sluggish, but I absolutely loved the atmosphere and setting! Great job!
Thank you! Fair enough on the physics, it was intentional but I probably could of tweaked it to be just a little more responsive. Glad you liked the vibe!
could not try out your game, my computer warned me that this is a virus :(
Fair enough, if you're new to game jams, getting virus warnings is a common thing when downloading exe games, typically it's safe but it's good to be careful, I can at least promise you I didn't put a virus in lol, I have other games on my profile page if that makes me look safer lol. Thanks for checking the page out anyway!
