Incredible voice acting! Watch out Jennifer English!
Top tier game, the whole presentation of it is maybe the best so far. The animations are really nice to look at, the frantic piano really fits the style, and I've never seen a rage game quite like this one. I got reminded of how terrible I am at remembering phone numbers, and after the third or fourth reset I caved; I started writing down the phone numbers on my second monitor.. But I never would have beaten it without doing that. Great ending btw :)
My nitpicks with the game are;
- The intro should be skipped when you replay the game.
- The book should open up to the page you were last on (unless it was intentional to annoy us having to constantly read it from the start lol)
- When the game ends, the audio should stop instead of continuing even into the main menu
- On mark b's second call, I heard a popping noise at the start
- At one point the piano music came to a really sudden halt and then started again, it should fade out instead.
Luckily I didn't encounter the game breaking bug you mentioned.
I really love how good the voice acting is, plus the player voice is super funny and charming. Just the whole gimmick itself is really funny in general. I loved calling numbers like Saul Goodman and that guy in a warzone, and I often stayed in calls just to hear all the dialogue because it's fun to listen to. I started giggling when I called Mark Brown from GMTK. I did the mark brown route which as far as I'm aware is the only possible route but it'd be nice if this idea was expanded on and there were more routes / funny interactions. Loved it!
Thank you for playing and for the feedback! All your nitpicks are not infact nitpicks but really truly useful! If I fix up the game after the jam ends, I will 100% fix everything you listed as those are real problems. Stuff like the weird music looping and the tutorial unskippibleness we did know about, but at that point we had like an hour until submissions closed so we couldn't fix it in time. You're right in that the book thing is annoying, we considered making it just open the book to the last page.... buuuut I was tired of animating and I was too lazy to redo the opening animation with generic text instead of page 1 text, whoops!
Anyway I'm suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper glad you loved the voice acting!!! That really is the meat of this game and I'm happy that everyone's been liking it. I'll let the guy who did the warzone call that you liked his work, it was all adlibbed on the spot. (he actually swore a lot in the original audio, we censored it with explosions lol)
Also don't feel bad about writing down phone numbers. I completely miscalculated the amount of time that you needed to play and finish just in time by like 30 minutes, but me five days ago thought 10 minute cup noodles was already too unrealistic (in hindsight, nobody cares, don't kill your games with realism!) And what I'm getting from everyone is that I should've given even more time than just 30 minutes lol.
Sadly, I probably won't go further than bugfixing with this game, because I have better games to make, but if you like what you see, I am going to post a reveal trailer for something in the works very dialogue driven, so follow if you're interested I guess. Sorry for shelling as hard as Mark Brown in my game lol.
Anyways thank you for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed our game!
Incredible presentation. The voice acting (especially the Marc - HR path) is really strong, and the phone SFX is super satisfying. Did I get my chopsticks? No. But did I have a good time? Also no. 10/10 would play again.
This game hit too close to home. You're definitely right about calling it a rage game. Amazing work.
It felt like an English listening exam with terrible audio quality.
Took me an hour and a half just to beat it. Great game though.
i love japan !
what an amazing game 10/10
Rip Jimmy. Really fun and amazing game. Great Work!
This is so good, I'll never forget my chopsticks again :)
Amazing game! loved the art and the voice acting
Haha loved it. Feels just like working in a Bay Area tech office.
Also I absolutely cracked up when I called the second Mark B.
Great job
amazing art !!! i've never made so many phone calls that quickly
MY RAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/10 am gonna eat ramen IRL tonight to feel better about losing.
Loved the characters. The voice acting was really fun and I loved the main characters voice!
The writing was funny and hte graphics were super cute >//w//<
Cool art style!
Really awesome art direction. I love the mix of scribbly 2d and 3d assets. Terrific job on the sound design and voice over. Super fun atmosphere and I liked how the screen became progressively more red the less time you had. Very creative and cool puzzle game. Fantastic job!
Love all the visual flair and recorded dialog. Definitely fits the rage game title, the ominous timer ticking down got progressively more stressful.
Oh the pain! Haha very creative
The phone slam sound is so good - felt great to slam the phone down on Mark on the second play.
was very cute and funny! i like it and it remind me of old cartoons i watcvhed as a kid thanks
