Absolutely brilliant writing; it made me feel utterly dreadful, but I think that's point.

The prose is excellent, and I really felt the weight of the moments despite there being such a small amount of time to familiarise myself with the characters and situation. The characterisation of the crewmembers is so strong, everyone has a strong sense of identity too.

Really great, thank you, and congratulations!

Wow, the amount of work you put in for the narrative is impressive. There’s so many choices, and given the four days. I really enjoyed my time playing. Congrats on the Narrative win.

🎉 Your overall rank is #538 in GMTK Game Jam 2026! Congrats!

Even though GMTK doesn't provide an official overall score, most teams put effort into every category. We made this ranking by averaging each game's category scores so everyone can easily compare their overall performance

What a tense story. With every choice I really felt the weight of what I was about to say. I didn't know what was right to say or not. I don't know what I would even do in that situation but the tension really came across. I can already kind of imagine how movie like this would go which is cool!

Thanks! I'm running through all the narrative games now so I just played yours and thought it was incredibly sweet.  I think nearly anyone can identify with the feeling of struggling to find a "right" way to say goodbye to someone.

The page views for this one are probably about to jump by quite a bit, and as they say a rising tide lifts all boats, so if you had a more narrative-focused game in the jam this year that didn't many eyeballs on it, please reply to this comment with some shameless self-promotion.

Submitted(+1)

Shameless self-promotion? Don't mind if I do, hehehe... *insert evil laugh here*

I guess I can post mine here: /jam/gmtk-jam-2026/rate/4830014

I was focusing on utilizing the fact that we're playing a game to boost the narrative of being an artist who's trying to make ends meet while doing your big work for a certain competition by immersively tying the mechanics around the narrative. The game unfortunately has some bugs but I'm working on them!

Developer

Wow that background is gorgeous! Love the visuals

What do you mean "Narrative: #1"

That's a typo right??

I'm genuinely so touched that this thing connected with people! I was pretty anxious right up to the submission time that people were not going to like it or that it was too sophomoric and whiny. I kind of can't believe it ended up anywhere in the top 1000 for the category, let alone top 10, especially when there were so many great narrative games in this jam. I'm excited to go through the ratings now and check out some of the other narrative ones that I missed.

Thanks so much to Taeko Salter (https://www.tumblr.com/paintingpuff) for turning around the art assets for this on such an absurdly tight deadline. I gave them practically zero time to do a half-dozen characters and a whole environment and as you can see from the captain's dorky-ass ladder climbing sprite, I don't think my own art is quite up to snuff. It would have looked absolutely miserable without their help.

this filled me with much horror and dread and warmth. it was moving. i liked the art and the music added a lot as well! for me it was reminiscent of Zelda: Majora’s Mask with a couple of the motifs, which set a great mood. great work!!

.. also, the “dev ran out of time” 4th wall break was great lmao

A very good narrative for a visual novel. I'd like to see this expanded more, be able to play more from the other characters' perspectives, have more branching storylines. It's really well thought out, really well done, sci-fi stories hit hard because they only say things about the human condition and our own world through a different lens. Very good job for the countdown theme.

I'm not gonna lie, this made me pretty uncomfortable since I really dislike thinking about death, but I really wanted to see more of the narrative either way. You portrayed the feeling of the final moments of a group of people very well in this, here with them running out of air on a spaceship. Seeing everyone cope differently felt very real, and it's messed up how it makes insane ideas like letting a sick crewmate die, by purposefully killing them, for a little extra air actually seem like an option, no matter how little the chance of recovery was. Hard subject matter but you did a great job making it.

I laughed so hard when I saw the line, "The dev ran out of time and only wrote the transmitter path."  If it were me, I probably would have written something like that very seriously in the game too, haha! I also made a VN game before, so I know how impressive it is to create this much dialogue within 48 hours. Writing branching conversations takes so much time.

The ending felt really heavy, but it also felt like it was asking a question like if there is truly no choice left in the end, what kind of attitude would you choose to face it with?  Very nice work! I had fun playing it!

You nailed the dreadful feeling of getting stuck on a spaceship with limited time to live. Do you happen to have played Mouthwashing? That's the atmosphere I get here.

Developer

Haha I've played mouthwashing and was definitely struggling to figure out how much I wanted to lean into or away from it as an inspiration. Originally you were going to be able to kill each person on board for more time but that ended up being both out of scope and, I think, probably not the right tonal choice for something more "moody angst horror" and less "psychological serial killer horror"

Submitted

this genre isn't my gave but this is executed very well. Definitely very thoughtful in the crew personalities and how they react to you as a captain, good work!

Submitted

Dang that was heavy. Are there multiple endings?

I literally laughed out loud when Christine said the dev ran out of time XD and only wrote the transmitter.

The other thing is I was thinking the captain should have had a walking animation, but since it's practically all dialogue there really isn't a whole lot of point. The only other thing is I think it would have made a better point and click than wasd game. Very good game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I ran shy on time and only implemented a small amount of reactivity. There's two slightly different endings, both equally fatalistic.

If I go back to touch this up I'll definitely add the alternate route, some more reactivity throughout, and cajole my friend into giving the captain a walking and climbing animation haha. That ended up being an "oh crap, it's the morning of the deadline and I still have the placeholder stick figure asset in for the captain" decision.

Wow! What an incredible story.

Submitted

Very well written! Nice job.

Sad story. I enjoyed it.

Submitted

Really cool concept and quite a long and branching story.
The feedback i want to give is that sometimes while you trying to speed up output text, you could unintentionally skip to the next text or select a dialogue options. Needs to have a small delay where it's impossible to select dialogue option or skip to next one, i feel.

good game i rly like the tencion the story has i rly enjoyed playing it

feels like a lot of content for just a jam game! reminds me of a concept I did once about robots on a ship with no chance of survival but the story you did is much better and flushed out!

I also unfortunately picked dialogue options by mistake! Then I didn't know what I just said. But still, great work!
