This entry seemed really well polished, and I liked the atmosphere created by the art and the audio. I wish that the game had explained what some of the modifiers did before I picked new dice though, as I initially didn't understand what "Ivory" or "Spirit" were supposed to mean. Overall, good job, especially as a solo developer!
Thanks for playing! I wanted players to learn over time what everything does, as that's something I find really enjoyable, but I think i'll have to experiment in further versions with what I reveal. Thanks again!
i really appreciated the effort that went into the main menu. the polish was clear from the beginning and persisted into the game. with some games, you can just tell they're going to be great from the beginning and this was definitely one of them!
Thanks so much for playing! I'm super happy with the menus. I just added a pause menu for the post-jam version, that eluded me ahah
This is a very impressive dice rolling fighter with some well thought out modifiers on the dice - I especially love the steel face that makes the other side more likely to come up, having to think about the balance of your dice is really cool!
My only criticisms were that there should be a way to see what the modifiers will do to a die before you choose them - just some help text on both the choice screen, and on the slot (to remind players) would've gone a long way.
Great work!
Hi, thank you for playing! I was very happy with the steel faces for sure. With regards to info, I really like the feeling of discovery it gives you not knowing, as you learn what things do it functions as a soft unlock system. I do think a little bit more info would be good though. I'll have to experiment
I liked the gameplay and the vibe of the game, without music, the whole game feels eerie and silent, like you are super hyper focus until to the point where you can't hear anything, you only have eyes on your dice and the monster infront. Although I managed to reach to the Christmas tree, alas no six come out lol.
Btw I think either you can hook up the roll button to a key or make it obvious by either arranging the UI around or use audio to tell the player it's their turn. Also, try to make the countdown of the heart more obvious, need to squint my eyes a few time to see the countdown. But, overall the game was very polished and well made! I could totally see this on steam ngl.
I'm so glad the tension was there for you! That was a really important thing for me, the deep engagement that you got. After the tree there's more of that, unfortunate, i should've made it 555 realistically.
Yeah, I should've put a "Player's turn" thing or whatever. That evaded me. And as for the heart thing, I kept trying to do it near the end of the jam but I couldn't do anything which was aesthetically pleasing to me. I'm sure i'll get it eventually.
I do want to expand it at put it on steam at some point. thanks for playing!
Really underrated game in terms of the jam, i can easily see how this could be expanded upon whilst still being entirely complete as it is, this guy knows ball.
Also I think it'd be neat if you could choose which dice to target rather than damaging the highest dice to allow the player to risk wasting their high roll to play lower dice to refresh stuff, or proc lower value special dice.
Thank you for playing! I definitely want to put more sauce in it.
I see your point with the dice thing... I don't know! I could go either way. I think it might add a bit too much decision complexity, and I think it leads to more moments of despair as it is now, but as a strategy gamer the idea of more options is of course appealing
Interesting game with pretty cool mechanic. I managed to get pass the Christmas tree but I guess I died to the last boss (the log showed 6/7) since I didn’t roll enough 6 which I guess is partial luck and partially wasn’t able to upgrade the dice that much.
Pretty cool atmosphere too, though the game is quite tiny on my screen (mine is 4K) so it is a bit hard to see things. (The menu was full screen but the gameplay screen is tiny) Great work
Thank you for playing! Sorry about the 4k issue, none of my friends have a 4k monitor so I wasn't able to check for it (or at least it didn't come up.) Odd bug that the gameplay is so small, will have to have a look at it.
Unfortunate losing to Annihilation. Not actually the last boss ehe but I intended it to be a sort of. Last boss but. Not quite. Thanks for playing!
Did you just feel like making dicey dungeons into a horror game? I feel like with more polish and content this could easily work as a steam game! My only complaint is that putting a 6 in the screwdriver didn't result in me getting an extra "1" dice
Ahahah yeah i realised after the first day I was making something quite similar. I think it plays quite differently though? I considered the upticking for a 6+1, but I realised it was too permanent of an upgrade. I think it works well in DD but in a game like this it was too good. Maybe you only get it for the turn? Thanks for playing though!
It is quite different from DD, both in gameplay of aesthetics! Just reminded me of it :> And yeah I'd assume +1 would be just for a turn :>
Wow what a wonderful game, the style is so good and the vibes from the menu all the way to the gameplay is spot on for what you're going for! The game itself was also really fun and enjoyable, would love to see this developed further!
Thanks for playing, I really appreciate your comment. I plan to develop it more, in some way or another
Not my usual cup of tea, but I found it very cool. I love the polished animations, and the limited color pallete. Fun to play, and unlocking new upgrades is satisfying
Thanks for playing! Tonally very different to your game. I wanted to create tension and you wanted to release it seemingly. Glad you enjoyed :)
Incredibly fun game and the art style is just perfect for this type of game. Amazing use of the theme as well.
Thank you so much! Definitely a deviation from my previous entries' artstyle but I am glad it worked out
Very fun gameplay wise, you could seriously expand this into a full game on itch. My only gripe is that hovering various tools (like ivory, or sparkle) doesn't state what it does. All good tho, very nice art and atmosphere!
Thanks for playing! I want to make it something proper, yep. I considered having things show up but I thought for a roguelike alot of the fun is learning as you go.
Really cool game. A little bit hard to get by at the beginning. But it makes more sense after progressing a little while.
Thank you for playing! Glad you got into it :)
Really cool although I had some problems after the wave with two porcupines and a racoon (I think thats what they are?) Relates to the theme in an innovative way. audio was a bit repetitive but fit the theming well. Top tier artwork, I do not know if the narrative is expanded on later but the introduction was nice. Great game 👍
Thanks so much for playing! The narrative is expanded on yes. In a way... Do you mean problems as in it was tricky or as in a bug? I think that's the tree... The tree can be tricky for sure.
The problem was one with my device which forced me to close the game and I dont know why, I'm 99% sure it was not a problem with the game itself
Absolutely, the most criminally underrated game in the entire jam.
Not only are the sprites amazing, but everything from UI, sound effects, overall gameplay and depth, and STORY all feel very cohesive and do a lot for overall storytelling. This game deserves top 10 in narrative, in my opinion. And all this in 4 days? The developer clearly put a lot of effort into this.
Both art and gameplay feel incredibly unique and different in a jam full of games that revolve around a few concepts.
I would talk more about the game, but I implore anyone reading this to download it and try it out yourself. It's the very definition of a hidden gem.
Thank you so much!!!!! I tried my hardest.
Doesnt fully occupy the screen on 4k monitor, enjoyed it though, feels very very well polished and fun, throwing dice is very satisfying.
Ah shit sorry, I didn't test for 4k! All of my friends are on 1080p. Thanks though, I put alot of effort into presentation
no stress on my end, enjoyed it all the same, just thought i’d lyk :~)
Nice game, background music fits the atmostphere, really cool concept. However, could be helped by a tutorial explaining how all the different dice faces work
Thanks for playing, i felt that it would be info overload to show you all like 10 different faces at once, thought it would be fun to discover as you acquire them
really cool game, top tier audio design, very satisfying sounds. cool visuals.
would be nice if there was hints to what "spark" is or "steel" is, or turning face into "spirit" is.
Oh, it says once you take the item, I thought it was more interesting to have something to learn over time. I see what you mean though. I was definitely experimenting with witholding information there.
Thanks about the audio design! I tried very hard aha
This was a really cool game, figuring out things was kinda rough tho
Sorry you had a hard time! Didn't have that much time for playtesting. What did you find tricky?
oh, i just didn't know what things did until I did them, which made my first playthrough kinda frustrating, but my second was much better
Sorry you found it frustrating, I really like the feeling of discovery you get from things like that in games, trying again etc so that was what i was going for
Great work. The art style is beautiful. Really hits that "atmosphere" vibe I crave. Feels good to interact with too. Quick to get used to and there's definitely a hook to keep me engaged.
Thanks for playing! I was trying to push the art design for this one, so i'm happy you think it came out well! Was more experimental this time around for sure
Awesome game ! you should definetly make it a full game, a lot of people could enjoy it like me !
Hey, thanks for playing! I think the game is pretty emergent in how it works so it's definitely developable. I had so many ideas for items which got scrapped ;(
