This game was a real treat! The diorama art style was fantastic and the characters were presented well. The gameplay itself was fun, particularly when you got to combining two characters. I did find the stun system a bit confusing but only a little. Overall really well done and loved the game!

How does your game fit the theme?
The battle system uses a Countdown timeline, where the clock will count down from slot 6 to slot 1 to execute actions. Your health bar also ticks down gradually, and there are countdowns in the phase transition

I thought the art was awesome, and the gameplay mechanics are really good too. The art looks like it's made of paper—how did you do that??
This feels like quite a fleshed out JRPG mechanic. I love the art, one feedback I have is that the background is a bit too vibrant and clashes with the characters making them hard to make out, would be nice if it was more Paper-marioesque where you could easily tell everything apart. All in all, great job!
great art and music but i could not figure out how to actually play the game!
Ok I found my favorite game of the jam. This is crazy work, especially for the art. Making and assembling all of that is amazing in 4 days. For the gameplay, I also struggled with understanding the stun mechanic. Something else is that most of the time I feel the attack choice is solely determined by picking up the right lane. Like, you have all those mechanics interacting with the different attacks, like the stun possibility, the attack order, the HP management. But in the end, if the lane I'm on get targetted, I'm just gonna pick the one attack that gets me out of the way. I think that's something to look out for if you continue working on the game.
I entered the gmtk this year as an artist to do the art direction on a game so that I could use it as a portfolio piece, so let me tell you that your artist can be proud. Have you made all the art digitally? I wish I'd been able to do something that impressive. Btw please check out my game if you find the time ;)
I LOVE DIORAMAS!!! It's soo sososososo pretty i love it!
You are an amazing artist and even tho it wasn't that clear the tutorial was present and well made. The story was good and the artwork aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i loved it it's one of the best games i played this year.
Wow. I don't know what to say here that hasn't probably already been said, so I'll just say it all.
This feels like a demo for a legit real genuine $20 steam game I would consider buying. Even with only the one fight we get characterization for the heroes, a combat system with depth with a really well done tutorial explaining it. The one fight we get is really well balanced too! I was left with just one hit point to spare before backup arrived even in spite of my lackluster turn based RPG skills (probably a calculated thing, but still impressive).
The only thing I didn't quite get fully was the stunning mechanic, I think I figured it out eventually but the numbers didn't always match up with my expectation. Maybe if we had some more fights I'd eventually suss it out though.
I guess I'd ask that you don't make allusions to other games in your tutorial with a iykyk, since anyone who sees this might actually want to seek it out to get more of what you've cooked up, especially since it's apparently niche.
And I somehow got that far without complimenting the adorable artwork and presentation! The cardboard and paper aesthetic is so well done, it looks extremely lifelike and leaves an impression. I also love you added a freecam afterwards so we could see a bit more of the magic behind it all.
I don't know how you pulled this off in four days, I just ask that you don't stop making games pretty please with a cherry on top!
The art goes crazy hard, and to make a complex turn based in a couple days?? also crazy hard
Nice game ! The art is so beautiful and unique, and I love the whole diorama style. The only thing was, I didnt fully understand the combat system, but it was still pretty nice
Very unique and very memorable art style, the diorama style is something that most games use purely for cutscenes, seeing it made for the actual game world is definitely a welcomed surprise. The tutorials i think could've been done better, I understood most of it but it felt more like an info dump rather than a tutorial, maybe a character explaining the mechanics would make it more digestible? The combat also has a nice depth to it, the symbols on the attacks conveys the effects of the attacks pretty well. I think some mechanics can definitely be made clearer, for example the stun effect, why does it have to be cost + stagger > 6? There can definitely be some improvements to make things more intuitive. Anyway, 5 stars :)
This game is a gem!! I love the art, the effects and sound were spectacular! Great work
Wow, it looks amazing and feels very polished though, Great game. Oh my there are so many amazing games submitted in this jam. I am truly speech less.
Only one advice (and I know it wouldn't have been possible in this jam, that's ok, its a miracle you managed to pull even this off)
Instead of showing all tutorial all at once, make it show how it happens, what it impacts and where to look for, I am still confused how turn based mechanics work. I might need to come again later and try it out.
Brilliant game, it shows how much love and care you have put into it.
The game's art direction looks great, though the countdown theme doesn't really come through yet. The UX also needs some improvement to feel smoother. Overall, it's a solid concept with good potential!
Wow, the art style is insane. The combat system and the narrative were also really good. My mind cannot understand how you were able to do all of this work in just 96h. Truly an amazing job.
I would definitely credit the artist for managing this! We developed a system where I would describe to him what I need, and he just makes it without confirmation, and I take whatever I get and spin it so that it works! This time he designed the characters first, and it had white outlines like a sticker, so I thought, hey that looks like Paper Mario, and we locked all assets into that theme. And I would just take whatever he throws at me, basically no edit, no backseating. Hope this helps.
WOW, what a game! This is so beautiful! I can imagine buying an RPG in thi art style for sure. And as for the fighting it was a lot of fun! Really neat system that works and gets me thinking. Once I got the hang of it, I was in a flow state.
