WOW I loved this one! I kept playing and playing till i maxed everything i could and i could genuinely feel my heart racing as i got the the last 1 and then lost :((((((( HAHAH IT WAS AMAZING
Feel free to check out mine
I like the general concept and was able to win pretty quickly!
I think the upgrades aren't really the best, it mostly boils down to just 'get more money (which is perfectly fine of an upgrade)' and 'win easier (which is where I start having problems)'. I think there could've been room for strategy here. Maybe an upgrade that gives you more leniency, allowing for a wrong roll or two without breaking your streak? Maybe one that would count inconclusive rolls as the next number in the sequence? I feel there's a lot of room for strategy that could've been explored. The extra dice was a good step in this direction, but given how expensive it is compared to the other upgrades, going for it didn't really cross my mind at all.
TL;DR: I think more varied upgrades would've been good.
Even still, pretty solid submission! Art looked nice and the sound design was really good. Good work!
This is great feedback, and it gets at the hardest problem I faced making the game -- "How can I add gameplay depth and strategy to a dice roll?"
I really agree that the upgrades are lacking, and the 'weigh the dice' upgrade is really overpowered, while the 'add a dice' upgrade is way too expensive. The existing upgrades will need to be balanced for the post-jam version, but I'm at a loss for new upgrades at the moment. I think it's important to require the player to roll exactly 6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 1, so I'm against upgrades which would allow wrong rolls or count inconclusive rolls.
One upgrade that got cut was a physics simulation speed upgrade, where you can just make everything run faster overall. I like that and I think I'll bring it back, but it doesn't offer any strategy beyond the question of the upgrade cost vs. the expected value of faster rolling.
Anyway, I don't mean to ask you to design my game for me, but I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback! Thank you for really engaging with it. The constructive criticism is by far my favorite part of the game jam. Thank you for the nice comment!
Really love the general look of the game and I really like what you did with the audio. Great game
Thank you for your comment!
Very fun and the mascot is awesome!
My feedback is similar to other people, didn't like when the dice was hidden behind the objects. Which should be an easy fix.
Not sure about the statistics you quoted at the start, are you taking into account safety rolls and that players could be rolling hundred of times. Plus, the way you roll the dice in-game might not be fair.
I was so close to winning without any dice upgrades (this was the 42nd roll) , and I was just farming gold for fun.
Game is really entertaining, great job!
here were the stats at that point.
Good point about the probabilities, you're totally right. The safety rolls complicated things (by making it more likely), and I decided to take out safety rolls completely in the post-jam version because they're unintuitive when you hear the premise of 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1. And you're also right about the rolls! They're totally not fair, with each missed roll weighing the dice slightly in your favor, but that's a secret mechanic to make it more fun (and less fair)
I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback! Thanks for your comment :)
Nice & neat gambling game :-D I wish there could be more ways to earn money and more updates to buy. Idk whether there is a way to actually control the die or it's just pure luck, proud to say I won in 6 min XD.
(I saw there's a 魚 on the monkey's shirt, not sure but you can reply in Chinese if ur a Chinese speaker bc I am)
Thank you!! I'm planning to add some more ways to earn money -- rolling combos like 6 6 6 (devil score) or 1 1 2 3 5 (Fibonacci) or 1 1 (snake eyes). Thank you for the feedback!
I'm glad someone noticed the monkey's shirt! 我学了中文 for a semester, but I'm definitely not a native speaker. When studying, I really liked the character "魚", and I drew the monkey in my notes one day. I like him a lot for some reason lol
Thanks for the comment!
Hey I liked this! Cool game and I love the visuals!
Thanks!
A cool game about being a cool dude throwin' dice. Love the texture work here!
Thank you for the comment! :)
This simple game is surprisingly addictive!!! I’d love to see more rewards to earn, such as an achievement system, or maybe a counter that tracks how many times you’ve thrown the dice!
It was a little frustrating when the dice ended up behind the timer and became impossible to see, but the game is still really fun. The simple act of throwing the dice even gave me a tiny bit of a gambling-game vibe:D
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! I did include a statistics page, but it's a bit buried in the menus, so I think I need to make it stick out more. Thanks for the feedback :)
I like the UI, it reminds me of old Windows computers. The game is simple and fun, good job :)
A simple and straight-forward concept! Took a little while to get what I was going for, but I like the idea of upgrading the dice! Would be nice to have some more challenges in the game, as I "won" with just the level 1 upgrade of the loaded dice. Some balancing and a bit more challenges and this could be a pretty fun and addictive little game!
Nice work! :)
Winning with level 1 loaded dice is crazy! There's nothing deterministic about the physics system, so I can't tell you how unlikely that is other than just very. I agree that this powerup is overpowered, and it'll definitely be lessened/made more expensive in the hopeful post-jam update. Thanks for playing!
Such a fun game! I love all these probability or dice games. The funniest thing I discovered is that in this game, it is actually much more profitable to toss the die with the minimum force rather than the maximum — so that it either doesn't move at all or flips exactly one face — in order to get the maximum amount of money.
The game pulled me in for a solid 40 minutes, and I managed to collect 10 stars in that time. It is very entertaining, though it is a shame there are a few bugs (the dice clip through the timer; when there is more than one die, instead of keeping the combo going when the same number is rolled, the game often tries to reset the combo because one of the dice rolled a 6). But other than that, it is a really fun game, great job!
Thanks for your comment! The timer collision was such a simple issue, I just forgot to turn it back on after importing a new model, ugh -- you might say I just didn't notice it in the stress of *The Final Hour of Game Jam*. As for the scoring thing, I couldn't decide on how to settle the question of multiple dice passing earning money criteria at the same time, and I decided to just let the 6 win always. Your feedback made me realize this is totally fixable by just letting both happen at once, and I have an idea for a UI element to help with that. Thank you for the great feedback!!
I actually can't decide whether to keep the low-force roll exploit (but make them harder to pull off), or stop it completely... many low-force rolls actually do flip the dice, it's definitely not 100% abusable, and I also think it's funny... hmm...
Thanks for your thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it :)
Got me hooked on the first round when I got the sequence only with a level 2 weight but then this game tormented me the next prestige when I had to max out the weight and use 2 dice >:I
I still liked the game and thought it was creative and fit the jam :)
That's kinda crazy! I've never gotten it with just 2 weight, that's like a challenge run lol, nice job! Thanks for the comment :)
i rolled 3 sixes in a row and now satan is holding me hostage
Thank you for your comment! I definitely want to add special rewards for 666, snake eyes, etc
Ahah didn't I'd spend that long rolling dice :D Well done
Wish I could see more of that monkey at the start ;(
And I appreciate the weighing mechanic on the die
Thanks for your comment! I love that monkey, I've used him in a couple of games now. He's a good narrator!
Its really fun and addicting
Thank you!
the gambler in me kept me glued to the game. I really liked playing it! I really just wish I could fling the dice myself somehow or have a slight bit of control over things, but none of that changed how much fun it was to finally get it
Thanks for your comment! I agree about the control, but I can't think of way to implement it that's not bulky. Maybe it could be an optional mechanic? Anyway thanks for the good feedback!
When I read the tutorial in the start of the game, I though "why I would like to play this?" and man... I WAS WRONG!
The upgrades and simple commands made the game super enjoyable, really liked the gameplay loop!
Positive points:
- Cool music and satisfying sounds.
- The upgrades are relatively balanced so the gameplay doesn't get annoying.
Negative points:
- I missed the usage for the gold stars, but it's JAM, right?
Great game, congrats!!
Thanks for your review! I really appreciate the feedback! And I agree, the gold stars would be a lot more of a reward if you could do anything with them, even dice skins. Our artist actually made dice skins, but I couldn't manage to add them in time, another reason I really admired y'all's level editor lol!
Surprisingly addicting! I prestiged once. Reminds me of that coin flipping game where you need like 12 heads in a row.
Unfair Flips! I loved it and it definitely inspired this game. Thanks for the comment!
SFX were awesome and responsive, I liked how meta the game was. The art style reminded me of a retro PS2 style, awesome work!
Thanks for playing!! Glad you liked it :)
First i have to say that the sound for the text in the beginning was pretty harsh on the ears and the sound when you win the star at the end was very loud even with the settings turned down, the dice going behind the objects was slightly annoying.
Apart from those points the game was fun, the rest of the sounds were good and the interactions with the 3d table environment was cool and as others commented it has potential to be even better.
Personally it was very nice to see the dices doing those nasty flips like we see on movies and such.
Thanks for the feedback! Sorry for the audio jank, but I really appreciate the feedback on the audio! (I couldn't decide whether to leave in the text sound, but now I wish I changed it. It sounds quite bad and loud, lol)
