I'm just seeing in the screenshots section now that you can move 🤦♀️ I legit thought it was like tower defense for about 30 mins of playing the game and just let the towers fire 😭 I was wondering why the hammer existed loool, I'm like why is the range so short if everything spawns out of range 🤦♀️
Cool game. Great art.
A really neat and satisfying incrementally game. I can see what you mean about some elements being a bit underdeveloped but what's here is already pretty strong. The emojis are a nice way to make economical use of limited assets.
If you develop it further, I'd love to see more meaningful differentiation between weapons. As is, I just kinda tried to estimate the DPS of each one and pick the highest.
Really fun and love how the UI looks, it feels really well polished! I also quite enjoy how the combat works (especially hammer) it feels a bit different from the usual top down game but very well executed! Well done!
thank you, I really was trying to come up with a fun melee weapon that wasn’t a sword slash and I admit the hammer was fun to make, and if you put several hammers on the ship it’s a whole lot of hammering going on haha. Thanks for playing! and thanks for the feedback
Really fun and very addictive!! It felt really polished, everything worked together fantastically. well done!!
thank you for playing. I really had fun doing this game jam
I really like the concept of the game, where you have to strategically arrange the different upgrades. I also like the minimalist art style.
I kept playing until I had more space on my ship, but unfortunately I noticed that quite a few upgrades didn't seem to work like the dash which was a bit disappointing. That's completely understandable given the time constraints of a game jam.
My only question is: why include upgrades that aren't functional yet?
thank you for playing. Some upgrades actually worked at one point but then got broken after the game progressed and I unfortunately didn’t get to play the game properly to realize they were now broken. And I think there was a few I added but forgot to implement b/c I was really wanting the tree to be fun and have lots of things. But I think somewhere along the line I lost track of my todo list in the wee midnight hours trying to get the game finished haha. I actually have worked a bit to fix some of the bugs so I’ll be doing a post jam update just b/c I had so much fun making the game. I learned a lot about scope creep through this game, like as in what not to do haha. I played this one incremental game called calorie count for the jam and they made a very small upgrade tree and I went and tried to do similar to a full on incremental game. I’m just thankful the game wasn’t totally broken by the tiem of submission.
and thanks for the comment on the minimalistic style. I’ve been playing around with the idea of using basically no assets other than emojis, of course I found out the hard way that the web version that didn’t work, but microsoft has this fluentd emoji assets you can use for free, the game merge maestro uses them which is how I learned about it. I wanted to see what’s possible with emojis and doing the ui without any sprites other than emojis.
I enjoyed playing your game! Slotting different weapons onto your ship and then having that layout effect the orientation of the weapons was great. The back and forth between mining and defending was very enjoyable. Only gripe is that the game may have some balancing issue with the early game requiring a lot of upgrades but once you get them being able to go very far down without having to upgrade again. Great job!
thank you for the feedback and playing the game. I think I have done mostly game jams with less time, so I’m thinking oh I have enough time to do this, but in reality I should have probably cut the scope down to fine tune things, but I’m happy with the turn out regardless of things being broken and not as balanced as I would like, but I think i wanna continue to work on this one. I already fixed some of the stuff that got broken during development.
Wow a full (kinda) working tree tech for such little time. Yes you overscoped, but next time you won't, I'm certain, and you'll deliver a great polish game, continue like this !
thank you for the kind words. The best part of the gamejam I realized was I think I enjoy the development of incremental style games just as much if not more than I do playing them. I tried to make one in a previous jam but I spent so much time on the gameplay that I barely got to do an upgrade tree so this time I kinda went in reverse and made sure the tree was good ( or at least better than what I had in my last jam game )
Not a fun of incremental games, but this one had me entertained! At first I was baffled, as I hadn't realized that you could move the ship around and I just sat there wondering what the hell was happening. then again, my small laptop screen meant that only 2/3 of the playfield/chrome were visible to me at a time. Great job, and crazy that you made this for a gamejam!
yeah I guess I could have had at least some introductory controls to show you can move. That’s some good feedback but I’m glad you were able to figure it out because yeah the game would be much less fun without movement. Thanks for playing!!!
Pretty fun game even without everything working. Scope can be one of the harder things to figure out for game jams imo but it gets easier the more jams you do.
thank you for playing. And yeah I think that’s one of the fun design challenges of game jams is properly scoping. I think it’s my brains desire for creativity mixed with the motivation to get it done colliding haha. Two systems fighting each other. I’m just thankful I got something working at least for the jam. I had a ton of fun developing it
Super cool game! Way beyond the scope of most games I've played here, huge kudos and it was remarkably fun and balanced for something made in only 4 days. Spent an hour playing!
thank you for playing and such kind feedback. The funniest thing is that I always do this with gamejam games, it’s almost like a big gamble. I build the systems and I try to put it all together at the last hours and then I finally get to play the game like a player would after the jam haha. I had tons of fun making it, and honestly playing it myself. I was just bummed some of the pieces I made didn’t work in the final build, but I think I’m going to work on it b/c i had different ship sizes, a dash and all this stuff but some stuff was just placeholder and some stuff was broken, but at least for the most part the core loop worked.
I like this game, but I was confused on what the XP does and how to spend it. I did have a lot of fun getting upgrades at the shop :)
oh so the xp is basically like vampire survivors when you get enough you get the 3 cards to upgrade your ship. then the loot you get in game is for the upgrade tree. it was me trying to blend two different genres an incremental game with a vampire survivors style gameplay
Interesting game. I was getting into it and the run ends. I think there is potential here.
thanks for playing and for the feedback. Yeah it need some more tweaking and balancing to be really fun. I think that was part of the issue of combining an incremental style game with a survivors like game.
feels like you spend a lot of time polishing the UI and little time polishing the game loop
You’re very correct in that haha. I got way too ambitious for what can be accomplished in a game jam. So I barely got to test the game in the way a player would actually play the game.
But I’m wanting to continue to work on it because I really had fun developing.
Thank you for the feedback and thank you for playing. I need to get on PC and play some games!
please keep working on it, this could become a great game
In my opinion, the best part of this game is the progression tree and it's what make me what to continue playing.
I'd like to see some different type of enemies, though. Also, I think there should be a game over state for the player.
Yeah my different types of enemies didn’t get much work sadly, sometimes your brain gets a little too ambitious and I over scoped the game a bit too much for the time I had to work on it.
But thank you for the feedback and playing the game. I’m going to definitely check your game out
I mean, it's a 92 hours jam. It's normal to not be able to finish all the ideas. Even though, this game has that thing that makes a game feel good. Not sure if I can explain well.
If it will have update in the future I'll be happy to see them.
did not expect a game with a full progression tree and everything xD, this was really enjoyable
honestly my only note is maybe use ceiling function instead of round for the health of stuff so you dont end up with the 0.0 but not dead situation
That’s a good suggestion actually. I seem to always do this in game jams. I make the game and the systems but I never have the time to play it properly like a real player would until post jam and then realize all these things haha. Like a lot of stuff worked at one point but then was broken in the final game but hey it was fun to make and I’m enjoying this game jam
Nice game! Great work on the progression tree. A few more upgrades would have kept me playing a little longer. :)
Thank you for playing. Yeah I wish I had more time to test it. I only discovered some of the bugs with some progression tree upgrades being broken. But overall I was happy with what I got done and I want to continue working on the game post jam. Once I get back to my PC I’ll have to check out your game
Love the Idea, The Music makes this game soo much more fun
Glad you enjoyed the game. I’m going to have to check out yours. I always love playing people’s games and seeing all the cool stuff people made
