The point system and mechanics are unclear. I was either randomly selecting cards or selecting in a high/low order. Fun to engage with, and the game would be even better with clarity.
It's a bit confusing but entertaining; it's a simple, elegant idea that I think has the potential to grow into something bigger in the future. Good game, I loved the art style you went with! :D
I got to 23k.
The presentation was perfect! I can see the Balatro inspiration here. It was fun seeing the numbers rise, but I didn't get 100% the mechanics even though I analyzed the tutorial twice.
Overall, good job!
Very stylish presentation (both in game and the amazing cover/logo art here) and I had fun playing it. A nice take on the emerging "score x multiplier" card game genre - well done!
Lots of fun and great art and audio! I noticed in one of your comments that there's a bit of a Balatro inspiration here. I feel like I would have liked to see scoring goals rather than the objective being to just get a really high score. But given the time limit, adding levels might have been too large in scope for a week long jam.
I fully agree. I planed originally to have levels with shops in between (where you upgrade cards) but I had to scrap all this because of the time limitation.
The upgrades would either increase mass or energy but also add unique reactions to it if the particle gets unstable (like make the ones next to it also unstable). In my head that could lead to cool combos.
Very satisfying mechanic and the sound/feel of it just makes it 10x better. Lovely & enjoyable even if I wasn't 100% sure about what I was doing after the tutorial. But I did read your comment below here explaining it and I think I understand the basic idea. I had a good time!
Awesome entry! The rule set creates such satisfying chain reactions once you get the hang of positioning the particles. Good job!!
Thanks :)
The juice you added to this is SOOOO good. Incredible polish, great job!
Thanks, that was the main focus for me in this jam. So I am really happy for that feedback :)
Good presentation on visuals/audio, but sadly I really had trouble understanding how to play the game. I did go through the tutorial and everything, but it just didn't click. When playing the normal game, I just picked a random card every time, and I won with a large score, so I wasn't able to work backwards either by a fail state.
Yeah, the main idea is actually quite simple, but I think I just bad at explaining it. It is a balatro variation of a card game I created. The rule is simple:
1. place a random card
2. draw 4 cards
3. place the next card, if the difference in rank is 1 you get 1 point.
4. place the next card, if the difference to the first card is 2 you get 2 points and if the difference to the second card is 1 you get one point.
5. continue till you run out of cards and draw next 4.
The idea was to plan when to place a card to get as much points as possible.
Still thanks for playing :)
I also was confused by the mechanics and this made more sense to me!
Graphics and sound are amazing! Even with the tutorial, I was a bit confused about the mechanics. But great game nonetheless.
