Nobody ever expects the horse to lie... but in the end, I'm very bad at logic puzzles! This was a cute entry with a very succinct theming, and a good few layers of polish on a classic idea. It's always nice when developers clearly have the time. ability and intent to wrap what they did up in a nice little bow, and the UI, sounds, and grungy pixel style all lend themselves to the exact same atmosphere, which helps sell it well! Good entry!
I hope that the guy who said that a guard would have his organs taken to save 3 other guards was lying...
Fun game! The visuals look good, though I think it's a bit too dark. I agree that most of the levels can be solved simply by asking whether they wear a hat. For the king, I found the correct words to please him, but it seemed to do nothing. I thought I was going to get a special cutscene :) Nice work overall!
Nice twist on the original puzzle, the way you can ask questions in this game is really clever. (We actually had a similar idea for our game, you might wanna try it out :D)
I feel like most of the puzzles can simply be resolved by asking "Are you wearing a hat" to a guy wearing a hat or something similar, that seems a bit too easy.
Also, the level with the 3 veritas knights was confusing me: At least one of them is lying, so why are they all veritas?
Ah and the one with the horses: It says one of them is lying and the other is truthful. Then why does the usual solution to the 2 guards puzzle not work here?
Finally, the UI looked very small on my 4K screen, a fullscreen option and having the UI scale with the screen size would be nice.
Yeah we originally planned on having some kind of "par" system to discourage players from asking the same hat questions at the start of each stage but that was pushed out for time. The usual solution should work for the horses, you just gotta work out what whether Neigh or Heigh means Yes or No.
Good point on the UI resolution, none of us have a 4K screen so it must have slipped through
Thanks for playing!
Great choice of game style for the theme. Maybe add an option to go full screen. The pixel font was a bit hard to read because of the size and the anti-aliasing.
The People's Messenger is a very fun game built around a very popular problem. If you already know how you’re supposed to phrase your questions, the game can feel fairly easy, but for someone who isn’t familiar with the concept, I think it does a really good job of teaching you. The mechanics are introduced gradually, so you can get comfortable with the basics before things become more complicated.
The music is especially well done and fits perfectly with the feeling of sitting there and thinking carefully about your next question as you click through the conversations. The constant rumbling of the text boxes is maybe a little too intense for my personal taste, but it definitely adds a sense of urgency and tension.
Overall, the atmosphere is very well done, and I really liked how the game interprets its theme. It’s a clever concept with a strong presentation, and I had a lot of fun figuring out how to approach the different questions.
Fun game, takes a simple concept of which guard is telling the truth and turns it into a fun game with good art and solid gameplay. (pls play my game)
