Everything was made during the week of the jam besides a plugin for dialogue which was heavily modified

me and my friend have been trying to solve the last riddle (the caesar cipher one) for like an hour and still couldn't figure it out :< At this point I'm just curious what could it possibly be, could you give us a hint?
as for the game itself, the setting is kiiinda cliche, but visuals and prose are executed well, there were a few very well written expressions, and overall the aristocratic tone and vocabulary is well-portrayed. What made us much less immersed though, is just how unlikeable the majority of the cast is. I understand that they're all rich entitled people and whatever, but it's just so blunt to the point of comedy - every time they're given the slightest chance of becoming not 100% negative characters with no depth, they are denied it, and *even the narrator themself* comments on how abhorrent they are! It feels as if the writer intended the characters to be purely comically evil punching bags and enjoys ridiculing them, which IMO makes the writing considerably less interesting. Thankfully, there's also a saving grace - Grace, who I found to be a fairly intriguing character, though we personally couldn't experience the conclusion of the story just yet
Though even considering this criticism, the work is obviously incredibly commendable, especially for a 7-day project! Hopefully our criticism didn't come off too strong, it's just that when the style of the prose (and art!!!) is quite good, these aspects are more noticeable by contrast
heyo, one of the writers here! thx for your feedback! i think we struggled quite a bit with tone shift as originally i was meant to write everything but of course the project was v ambitious (and i have a small baby oop) so another team member v kindly jumped on a bunch of the dialogues but you can definitely feel the shift in style between us. and the shift in style between my 3AM writing lol. i did intentionally lean in to the cliches, like tried to go for that agatha christie sorta vibe as i've never tried the genre before and with the time limit i wanted to ham it up a bit.
omg im so sorry about that riddle, we are going to update the hints to be much more sensible as i wrote it when my brain was running on fumes. so the starting word for the password is 'lenore' and then the hint for the cipher is mean to lead you to the number of letters in crandock (8), so we are wanting you to shift lenore alphabetically by 8. i don't think literally anyone has gotten to it without needing it explained yet, my b.
You did a great job with visuals. And the music is on the spot! While playing though I got some bugs with the game...
SPOILERS BTW:
Despite all that, I was very excited to play and get immersed. And oh I did get immersed! You got a great game here!
Thanks for playing and letting us know! We're actually fixing a bunch of text and dialogue bugs at the moment! Small chunks of the narrative are missing as well because of the bugs! Hope you come back later to see what you missed!
I sure will!
can’t believe done in 1 week, your team are amazing, great art work making gameplay and sotry
I can't believe i'm playing this for free?? This is AMAZING? The storytelling, art, audio, oh everything tastes so delectable mmm! in under 7 weeks, you've all birthed a masterpiece!
To pull off such a complex and interesting project in such a short time. You guys did an amazing job! I hope to see your project at launch.
First of all, considering you all only had a week to tackle such a massive scope, what you've put together is honestly pretty amazing! I had a great time playing, though I did want to share a few gentle thoughts that came up during my playthrough:
I'm currently a bit stuck trying to figure out the name you would have bestowed upon you (iykyk) but I’m going to keep at it 😎 Seriously great job on this. Also, I'd be so thrilled if you had a chance to check out our game as well when you have a moment!
Thankyou for the constructive feedback! Some of it was time constraints and some were design decisions that maybe we could've implemented better.
On a separate note I'll be sure to check out your game when I get the time!
Damn, the quality of this game is astounding..
Thankyou! The team worked hard
Really impressive work and fits the theme nicely. The art and presentation was fantastic. I ran into a few errors here and there but given the scope of the game that's entirely forgivable. I failed on my first attempt but will come back and try to solve it.
Do give it a try! Curious who you thought the killer was? And thankyou for playing!
Really enjoyable to play through, the music and art was great, and I loved hearing the character's voices. Keep up the great work!
Thankyou! Would love to know who your favorite character was?
I liked them all, but Grace was definitely my favorite.
A SUPER impressive effort for a week! I really enjoyed myself. I do find the voice SFX a bit mismatched with the atmosphere and art, but otherwise I have few complaints.
Thank you so much! I am glad you liked it. I agree with the sfx mismatch. We wanted to add voice acting but it would've taken too much time to implement so we opted for voices instead of silence.
Really loved the art and the storytelling!! I ended up playing for way longer than I expected haha. Can’t believe you made this in just one week, that’s actually crazy 😭
TYSM! The team worked super hard on it I'm glad you liked it!
