Really goofy, I liked it a lot! Only wished you could perform your next attack quicker (I mean, once you land your regular attack, there's a delay that blocked me from hit the target right there again. I think getting rid of it would make it less repetitive).
The 5SP gun mini game is very cool too! My best was 23
One last question: Is the ancient god T-posing? or are those wings???

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing, happy to hear you liked it!

I initially wanted to have the window there so the little startup animation could finish playing, but now that you mention it, I think removing it would indeed be the better option! Also nice job on getting a combo of 23; not really sure what my highscore was, I'll see if I can beat that :D
(edit: after a few tries highest I could get was 31)

also yes the ancient god is T-posing XD

Wow, a really cool concept! I really enjoyed the intro too, and the quite time events were fun to do. Cute to see the note saying things aren't implemented, it feels like there's potential for more updates later! Impressive work with just yourself doing it all!

Thanks for playing and for the kind words! I'm glad you liked it ^^

nice and complete little package

the artstyle does a lot with so little

the minigame like combat was a nice touch, although it got a bit repetetive

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked the art ^^

I agree that the qte's can get a little repetitive, I initially wanted to add more types, though in the end I didn't have the time for it. I'll keep the feedback in mind :D

The experience is really polished, although the controls confused me a bit when combat started because i was trying to use the mouse and sometimes keyboard etc. The charm really comes from the art and sound, i feel like i didnt manage to appreciate the art enough at the beginning. Maybe if it were a comic book style with multiple images on the same screen while the text prints would let me do that more.

Developer(+1)

I always make my games playable with only a keyboard, because I'm too lazy to use a mouse XD
Occasionally I'll add some mouse input to some stuff, for proceeding the dialogue in this case, though usually not everything. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll remember to add more mouse support next time I'm working on a project!

I also kind of rushed the cutscene art, since I had to catch a flight home on the first day, and wanted to finish all of it before arriving on the second day. I did eventually finish it, but I do agree it could've been a bit more detailed ^^

Thanks for playing, for the kind words, and for the feedback! I'll keep it in mind :D

Rules Card... ROUXLS KAARD!???

This is such a great experience.
I love the dialogues sm, and the art especially the silly poses the characters make
The sound design is really nice and the music really adds to the gameplay

As ex DBD player, ex Block tales player, and a rhythm gamer I'd say I love the gameplay so much.
it's very enjoyable and very block tales coded. The difficulty is also not too hard not too easy I'd say

Very nice ^ ^

Developer(+1)

hehe glad you caught the reference

To be perfectly honest I cringe everytime I read my own dialogue, though I suppose that's normal XD
Also, though I didn't put it in the description, the game is indeed very much inspired by Block Tales! I really liked how just about everything had it's own unique qte, so I decided to put it into the game. Definitely one of the best Roblox games I've played along with Phighting!

Thanks a lot for playing, and for the kind words :D

The game was so fun to play! The music goes really hard during the fights ^^ Oh and the poses our character makes when attacking look very cool too!
I also loved the deltarune references haha
Even though being able to use actions would have been cool, it's already a great game, especially as a solo developer!
Awesome entry :>

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked the poses! Wanted to make them nice and dynamic to really make all the attacks feel nice and juicy
I also always like to put some references here and there, so I'm happy you noticed :D

Thanks a lot for playing, and for the kind words :>

Awesome art! Even the loading animation is a fun little touch XD

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it :D

I really loved the art style, and how you used the story telling to mold the game towards the theme. was playing undertale rn and due to the game having same controls, i had fun

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it! Undertale is a masterpiece, hope you enjoy it as much as I did :D

I liked the game but it was a little too hard for me (probably just a skill issue). I felt like whether or not I made the parry was luck dependent, so I would've appreciated an easy mode. Other than that, really fun.

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it! The parrying isn't luck dependent, though sometimes in the web build lag spikes can mess a bit with the timing, even without, the timings can be quite tight, so I wouldn't blame yourself! I'll keep your feedback in mind though :D

The story and sound design were really engaging! Great job!

Loved it!

Introducing the lore with background images and music was really great, I got instantly hooked.

And then the gameplay mechanic to attack and parry was great, it felt immersive!

The only critic I'd make is that the combats are a bit too long. I think it would be a good idea to first have a really short combat to get the hang of it, and then on each "level", increase the difficulty/length of the combat (as well as add additional mechanics, if you have time/inspiration)

By the way I was never attracted to turn-based games, but this one feels different, well done!

Developer

Happy to hear the cutscenes felt nice! I always really liked the way Slay the Spire displayed their events and cutscenes, so I tried to put some of that into the cutscenes of this game. I also wanted the player to have some influence over their damage in- and output other than choosing actions, so I added some qte's to everything, glad that feels nice and immersive!

I totally agree with you on the fact that the combats take a tad too long. A short first combat is a nice idea, I suppose I could've split the first crewmate fight into two separate ones with some more variation! I initially did want to add some more mechanics, though I ran short on time in the end unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for playing, and for the feedback, I'll keep it in mind :D

I really enjoyed this game! Just when the mechanics started to feel a little repetitive, things would get changed up. I really liked the gun mechanic especially and being able to get more and more damage!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it :D

This rocks!!! I would love to see a full game implementing this combat system, art-style and humor combo. All the attack and parry QTEs felt super reactive and satisfying, I had a lot of fun and I'm so impressed that this was accomplished in one week.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Happy to hear everything feels nice and responsive! This is probably one of the first games I've actually finished, so I myself am kinda impressed too considering how unproductive I was at times XD
I won't be making a full version of this game, though perhaps a game jam game in the future I feel content with spending lots of time on!

I'm glad you had fun! Thanks for the kind words, and for playing :D

This was genuinely one of the best takes on how to make a good turn based combat system that I've ever seen. The music was really great, and the character designs were really well done. I really liked the little things that made the combat satisfying like the really crisp attack sound effect, the particles, and the little animations of the UI sliding in, to the point where I spent like 30 extra seconds on overkilling the boss with the gun. The only thing I can really say bad about this game was that it didn't do anything crazy with the theme, keeping it mostly as a story element, and the intro cutscene might have been a bit long for how long the total game was. Other than that, this was absolutely the best Brackeys jam game that I've played so far, and I might honestly use the combat system as inspiration for my own games. Also, Deltarune references? Very cultured :)

Developer

Glad to see a fellow turn-based RPG enjoyer! I do want to point out that I got 99 percent of the audio, including all the music, from pixabay, so all credit goes to them!

I'm glad you liked the character designs, definitely got a lot of inspo from Deltarune for the poses there, was also a nice anatomy exercise! I'm also happy to hear everything feels nice and juicy, as that's something I find very important in games! Oh, and it makes playtesting less boring.
Main reason is probably because I found out about the existance of AnimationPlayers in Godot while making this game! You don't have to do much tweening from script anymore, you can make changes on a whim with all the keyframes, and you don't have to rerun the game after each tweak; really useful stuff!
I also wanted to make the gun attack able to go on forever, so I added a little overkill particle to show the enemy health reaching zero! Totally agree with you on the theme part! To be frank I don't think I've made a single game that incorporates the theme in any major way, I was just looking for an excuse to make a turn-based RPG XD

Feel free to use the combat system as inspiration, I'd be nothing but happy! Thanks a lot for all the compliments and kind words, really makes my day! Also thanks for playing, and for taking the time to leave such a humongous comment :D

hehe I luv Deltarune

This needs a full release. This is one of the best games in the jam

Developer

Unfortunately I won't be working on the game after the jam anymore, though I'm glad you liked it :D

ok

love this game , the turn‑based combat is the core, but what really makes it shine are the fast‑reaction elements that keep every encounter tense and exciting. You’re constantly switching between planning your next move and reacting on the fly, which gives the gameplay a great rhythm. I had an absolute blast playing it. woow realy good job.

Developer

Happy to hear that! Thanks a lot for the kind words :D

Wow! loved the art!
The gameplay is so fun, I don't usually play turn-based games, so that says a lot.
Keep it up!

Developer

I'm glad to hear you liked it! Thanks for the kind words :D

Absolutely loved this one. The graphics are simple but really charming, and the mechanics are a lot of fun. I also really liked the story and how polished everything felt. Honestly super impressive for a one week jam, probably the best jam game I've played in a while. Congrats!

Developer

That's really nice to hear! Thanks a lot for the kind words :D

This should have way more votes! Loved the silly animations and the poses the characters take XD Battle mechanic was pretty fun too. I only thought the crewmate enemies were a bit tanky, and for the qte you kinda have to wait until the animation is over before it registers your input.

Very nicely done though! ☆

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it! I initially thought it'd be a bit wonky to be able to attack while the animation is still going, though I never really tested that! Come to think of it, not being able to attack while the sword (or boot) is still spinning, did bother me a few times while playtesting. I'll keep it in mind!

Thanks a lot for the feedback and the kind words :D

Submitted(+1)

I mean, on the positive note, it did force me to not rush things and aim carefully XD And you're welcome!
