Hello Everyone! This thread is so that participants can introduce themselves.

Share:

  1. Your Name or Nickname
  2. Your favorite game genre
  3. Your goal or type of game you’d like to create
Host(+2)

I’ll go first:

  1. Brite Palette (You can call me Brite)
  2. I like lyrical ttrpgs and dark aesthetics
  3. My goal is to make - a fourth game for Medusalaire along with everyone else. It’s still percolating in my head, though.

And I want to comment and review each submission for the Jam. That’s my biggest goal!

(+1)

You're being so sweet and replying to everyone else, so I'm gonna reply to you over here :D

Commenting on everything is a great goal! And I hope when you see the entries, it'll fill you with pride that you inspired everyone 🧡 That our games exist solely because you made your games, your SRD, and this jam.

I'm excited to see your fourth Medusalaire game! You came up with a GREAT variety for the first three!

And you said if I had questions, I could ask. But I'm gonna stretch that and ask a weird question lol. How do you pronounce your name?

Angel and I have assumed it's French. Like... "breet pal-let". I'm bad at visually writing out words lol. But basically "Brite" rhymes with "Pete". Or maybe "Palette" rhymes with "Valet"? "Pal-lay"?

- ✨Beth

(+1)

Update: Angel says she thinks it's like "bright pallet" as in... the word "bright" like "the sun is bright" + "pallet" as in the wooden thing you ship stuff on.

- ✨Beth

Host(+1)

Angel is correct! “Brite” like “Bright” and “Palette” pronounced like “Pallet” - you both get a gold star for that one.

(+1)

LOL hurray for gold stars! ⭐🤩 And good to know, thank you :D

PS: She screenshotted your reply and sent it to me along with a gif that said "I rest my case." 🤣

LOL!!! Angel is the Phoenix Wright of the household! Love it

hey its AL [not A.I.]!

I'm a big fan of dark, hopeless ttrpgs with little hope for winning when I play... but I'm not sure if that's the kind of game I'm going to create.

I'm fixing to write a Space Station based Medusalaire game. Trying to decide if I'm including aliens.

Thanks for hosting, Brite!!

Host

So great to have you along, AL! Sci-fi is a fun genre, aliens or not! There’s so much to work with.

Well, hi there! 🧡 I (Beth) will answer for us both.

  1. I'm Beth. Technically Elizabeth, but Beth is my chosen name. Angel (Angelique) is my partner in life and in games.
  2. I think I can safely say we both prefer cozy games. Being farmers, running shops, managing loving communities (or even just being part of them), etc. But this'll split a bit:
    1. We love PLAYING video games like Assassin's Creed, Life is Strange, Remedyverse (Control/Alan Wake/Quantum Break/etc), Stardew Valley, No Man's Sky...
    2. We love MAKING TTRPGs/zines that are uplifting and encouraging, but we also touch on darker stuff... I've been making more based on my depression, Angel has several zines and games about identity and loss and her disabilities, etc.
  3. With this jam, I wanna make my first blatantly trans game. The system is SO closely tied to being trans: others seeing you a monster when you're just trying to live your life, etc. I make a lot of stuff steeped in queerness, but I've never had the player actually play as a queer character. So maybe I'll be brave enough this time. Angel has already read all three games and the SRD too, and loved it all. She's excited to play the games so she can understand the mechanics better and then see what she wants to make, too 🧡

PS: BRITE THIS ALL LOOKS INCREDIBLE OMG. Congrats on the SRD, the games, and this jam. It is all INCREDIBLE and you should be sooooooooooo proud!!!

- ✨Beth (and on behalf of Angel)

Host

Thank you, Beth and Angel! Everyone be sure, if you finish your game really early - to submit your entry to Beth and Angel’s Solo September Jam!

I cannot wait to see what you both have in mind. A game based within the trans experience is so in line with the themes of Medusa. If you have any questions, be sure ask away!

(+1)

Thanks for sharing our jam! I literally just finished adding this jam as a recommendation for entering additional jams over there 🤣

I will keep that in mind about asking you questions. Or maybe I'll make up some questions to have an excuse to chat 🙌 I have a handful of things I'm really excited to do once we get a place, and entering this jam is at the top of the list.

OH OH OH plus October is my transiversary!!! I legally changed my name on the 10th or 20th (I think it was 10/10? I always have to look it up). So making my first trans-centered TTRPG fits that perfectly 🧡

Hello, I'm Dallas (they/them).

I like games where you make a world and watch something over time. I think that'll be my starting point for the jam concept, but I am not 100% sure yet.

Host(+1)

DALLAS! OMG! You are a maestro of worldbuilding. This is right up your alley and I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Howdy, I'm Mysticchocos (or just Choco). It's been a minute since I've done a jam, but I'm here to give it a shot again.

Favorite genre is hard for me, but I have to go with beat em ups and hack and slashes for video games, and definitely stuff with collaborative storytelling implemented with a decent mechanical base for TTRPGS (think fabula or blades in the dark).

My goal, I know this sounds simple, but just making and releasing something. I have a hard time focusing sometimes on a project, especially when it gets to visual department and pdf making. I'm pushing myself to make a list of what needs to be done, and just do it in segments. I also want to take the time to improve my "playtesting" phase, as I feel some of my previous projects needed more time to cook.

Best wishes for everyone participating!
PS: I almost forgot to mention what I want to make. Well, I know I want to spin the formula up a bit, and have some ideas (day/night cycle, arranging rooms in a tower, making regular enemies have archetypes as well as the bigger enemies). As far as theming/dressing, I'm still thinking.

Host(+1)

Hey Choco! I’m so glad to see you here. I do hope you’re able to make something, SRDs are great for taking some of the mechanics pressure off so you can focus on the good stuff.

See where the system takes you and don’t get too overwhelmed. Do what you can, cause you can always save ideas for the next project.

Hello, glad to be here and excited to join this jam!

  1. My name is Nik!
  2. So far I've been really enjoying solo TTRPGs, especially cozy and contemplatives ones. Big fan of your work too, Brite! Your game 'The Lost Roseville Stage' is what inspired my game, Midnight Kopitiam. I've always adored Omotenashi and didn't even think to hack it until I saw your game!
  3. I actually worked on two different drafts but they didn't seem to work out. Then I remembered Shrek and how his swamp cottage is literally his lair and he tried to keep people out of it in the first movie. So I decided to make a fangame that takes place after the last movie where he's tired of being a celebrity and just wants some peace and quiet with his family.
Host

I had no idea, Nik! Welcome to the jam and I’m glad The Lost Stage of Roseville should you what else Omotenashi’s system can do (it really is a GREAT game). I’ll need to add Midnight Kopitiam to my list of games to check out.

Your idea is right within the spirit of Medusalaire - Shrek really did try to keep others out of his Swamp and I think in the first 3 films that a big part of his motivation. Wanting to go home and be home. I am very interested to see how this plays out for you. I think you can have a lot of fun with the idea.

(+2)

Thank you!! ❤️

Yeah, it's shaping up to be a very silly game! I'm enjoying the process and am glad to be joining this jam and trying something new :)

(+1)

Guess I'll actually get around to introducing myself since I'm 10 pages and a tracker sheet template into this now!

My name is Quibbleflux but I also go by Quill (in my head the two names are linked because of the Qui- even though that doesn't make any sense)

I'm a generalist when it comes to games. I have the kind I like in theory (games with complex build crafting and lots of mechanical exploration such as Ironsworn) versus the kind I like on practice (Final Girl). Also like every video game.

I'm working on a rather unique premise that gets most of its inspiration from the High Noon Gothic skins of League of Legends. Not based on those, but I just like the idea of yeehaw in Purgatory. I personally think I have a really interesting twist on Medusalaire so I can't wait to unveil it once drafts are done!

Host

I posted my entire reply as another post instead of as a reply by mistake, lol. I apologize for that!

I love the vibe of Final Girl. I’m a big fan of the concept and artwork. The VHS expansion idea is so great.

10 pages is amazing, you’re really feeling it! Funny coincidence - I was almost inspired by League of Legends skins for the jam as well. The coven line is so evocative, but I’m going in another direction instead. Sounds like you’re taking your project into a forsaken Wild West direction? I bet your twist on the system will be great.

Hellooooo all, I'm Aug!

I most love solo games that strike a balance between building a narrative and some simple mechanics, especially when I get to have fun with the characters or setting. I'm willing to try any kind of setting/aesthetic but I do tend to gravitate toward fantasy stuff.

For this Jam, I've brainstormed a lot of ideas mostly inspired by a *very* old setting of mine. But I'm still wrangling how well they and the system actually mesh together, what my real themes and meanings are, how to tailor the mechanics, etc. Still, I'm very excited to work with the opportunities the system offers.

...The downside of this is that now I'm attached to every idea. So it goes. I'll figure out something! What's taking the most shape in my head is, in short: you've succumbed to a curse and been confined to a haunted forest, and while fending for yourself against the Outsiders you're also hoping to close off the forest for good.

Host(+1)

Aug, you are in VERY good company. I went through about a million ideas as well before settling on one.

I think using the system, or any SRD for an original story or world is always a fun way to look at that world a different way.

I definitely already see the story in your summary and it looks compelling! Is the player closing off the forest for their protection or to keep others from being cursed as well?

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Glad to be in that company, lol!

The thought I had is that it's to spare others, but I've been thinking a lot about what the victory (and the failure) should actually look like. And I'm also toying with how I might adapt some ideas that aren't so heroic. For example, you have your Allies, but they may not share that goal, so depending on how things shake out there could very well be some trade off that gets you closer to your goal or more innately powerful by abandoning your Allies. But it's all for the sake of saving others from your fate, right?

Lots to consider with the design space, and I'm getting more comfortable with the system so I'm hoping I can pull off some interesting things!

Host(+1)

Oh, the tension of that narrative is really powerful. Sometimes our allies and friends may work at cross purposes to our own goals. Either way the idea is really neat.

It’s a good base plot for the game so this is one that has some good “legs” from the get-go.

I’m glad you’re getting used to the system! Always let me know if you have questions.

Submitted(+1)

Thank you so much! I'll definitely reach out as I get more into the weeds, but getting to play the existing games has been a great help alongside the SRD.

This'll be an exciting jam! Can't wait to see everyone's work.
