How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Where does gold's value derive from? Is it its shinyness? Mostly, we presume.
In Eriq Topson and The Treasure of Hollow Island not only are there shiny, valuable, olden and golden objects to be retrieved, but also guilded memories to be forged and reminisced.
The people that esper archaeologist extraordinaire Eriq Topson must help reunite with their lost prized posessions have much more than gratitude to offer in return: they offer information.
And in Archaeology? In SCIENCE?
Well, that's as good as gold.

To start of with what I liked less, the gameplay felt a bit light and sometimes hard to read, and there was lot of strange scrolling issues with sprites not being all in sync
But still a very good entry, the art is lovely (super fan of those chunky little houses), the palette felt super refreshing and all character design are so good. Congrats !
Very impressive and complete gameplay for just 10 days! All the art and SFX was also well made. You all must have worked very hard on this
Extremely well done and polished.
Great little game. Definitely nailed the gameboy look and feel with this one. Loved the palette. Overall, well done!
Incredibly polished, especially the detail with the NPC dialog and the voice effects. Excellent audio and art.
I loved the character design!!! A very beautiful game
I love the art. The character designs were all so interesting and full of life! I love the music and sfx, even the choice for the select menu and cursor sounded so good! I love the quirky characters and dialogue. I hate (and love) how you made me have fun with arrow traps and pushing rocks. That last arrow trap segment was really tight too. Wonderfully made and well polished this game is really amazing. My only complaint was not enough Agoostin interaction. Otherwise, well done and outstanding work to you all. Thank you for making this entry!
Very hard game, but I enjoyed it a lot. I liked the characters, I liked the music, I like the setting and the fact everyone is dying from those dang arrow traps! Really even loved the ending!

What's there to say, it's just perfect.
"Thanks Mister Dog!! You're perfect too!!"
The artwork here was awesome!!! I loved the color pallette! Character writing was great with a lot of personality, but a little bit long, and not always helping me instantly understand where to go. Got annyoed a few times pressing A to progress through the dialogue, but then it forced me into a dialogue selection and I accidentally selected it, or pressed it again by accident when walking away from an NPC and then talking to them again.
ALso i got to the secret path in the trees "that i should check again once i return the crown" but alas, i got stuck there. I didn't quite understand where to go!
PS fullscreen didn't let me fullscreen
I believe you didn't talk to Sylvester and didn't activate the next quest, that might be the reason the path was blocked. Thanks for playing!
Wow, I enjoy the amount of effort the creators put into this game, nice job!
"Ya See? At least SOMEONE sees the value of hard work 'round here!"
I love how much personality is in this game though its gorgeous sprite work, bizarre character designs and voiced dialogue that sounds like Animal Crossing. I like the idea of reading people's minds during conversations. All this alongside insight given about the island make this game feel alive and lived in.
The challenges felt fair with the map design being clear enough to see obstacles in front of you and not too reliant on backtracking. I do think it's a bit easy for your hitbox to trigger the traps, which is kind of annoying when taking on precision challenges, and it's weird that you can pass right through traps after they activate.
Overall though, you guys did a great job with this one, even if you couldn't afford a fourth wall.
If you like, you could try out my game, which also goes for a top-down view.
This is one of the more polished entries in the jam, and one I looked forward to playing whenever I saw your updates on the Discord.
As I mentioned on Twitter, the art style and color palette are gorgeous in this game. Love the writing and the characters and their Animal Crossing-esque dialog voices as well, definitely top marks on Quirkiness.
Great work and keep it up!
Have to agree with the rest, the art and dialog really sell the quirky world you've all created! The arrow dodging is not my favorite gameplay, but does sell the *temple of doom* feeling of it all.
Congrats on finishing such a polished game!
It's insanely gorgeous. It's clear that the artist was having a blast drawing weird characters, and going around meeting them is the real joy of this game.
There's enough dialogue to let the game linger in the memory after it's done.
The Gameboyishness was a little low (maybe if Eriq walked on tiles/half tiles or if the NPCs blocked his movement...) But since it's in service to such a handsome game it was hard to deny I had a great time. And hey! You can read minds.
I really liked the talking noises, but overall the game's audio was too loud. I had to turn my browser audio down significantly.
Gorgeous! 💚 The art reminds me of Y2K-era throwbacks to 60s cartoons: polished and detailed, but with striking exaggerated bases; perfectly expressive, exceedingly charming! The world is a nice lemony treat, just sour enough to feel real, but with the sweet tinge that people really do care underneath the pretenses.
This might be the first game I've played where someone is competent enough to walk in-between spikes after they've popped up!
The talking sounds are a little bit loud compared to the rest of the audio.
Very minor nitpick: In the text, whole words may start in one line and then "skip" to the next line after reaching the edge, creating a little discrepancy when reading while it's typing. There's some ways around this, such as predicting where breaks should be inserted after spaces (easier with a monospaced font) or by creating the whole words beforehand and then "revealing" them letter by letter.
Fantastic! Great work! 🎉
An excellent effort, though there are times it feels more like I am playing a Gameboy Color game. Perhaps it has to do with the gameplay and the selected palette?
Loved the music, writing, and the art. I feel like the palette suites the story too so dreamy, great work here!
Man, what a pretty game, huh? The graphics are outstanding! Very pretty pixel art.
The gameplay is cool too, the gameplay loop is nice :)
Neat game, congrats!
