How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Gold plays a big role throughout the game, and it's even in the title. Some of the gold found in the game is also pretty old...

Really great Game Boy art, it felt really authentically Game Boy. Overall a really comfy package!
There's a fascinating sense of atmosphere created in this game, but it's wrapped in a project that feels significantly overscoped. The game doesn't really do a great job of giving direction as to what to do, but exploring the nooks and crannies of the map is at least fun.
A post-jam build can build around the world and unite it around a compelling story (there's promise in the cutscenes/dialogue portrayed) to deliver a solid experience.
Thanks a lot for your review!
It is definitely overscoped, this is what i struggle most with in game jams. But believe it or not, i did WAY better than ever with the scope on this one xD Oh well...
Yes, i can not leave it like this, because i already planned the whole game til the end in the jam, just didn't have enough time to implement it all.
So you can look forward to that! ^^
It was fun to try and figure out where all the pieces were hidden, well done on those, had a bit of trouble with one on the “first screen” though, did not talk to someone I needed to. Only critique here is that if you also target web builds, please look into other transitions as on a lit screen (ie: every pc or mobile screen) the white transition effect is really harsh on the eyes. I also fail to see the theme here, but could be just me.
Graphics wise you did a great job, spirtes are cool map feels alive, altough a tad too many rocks for my liking :P
SFx and music were good, well done on those parts!
Overall a cool adventure game, well done!
Thank you for playing and your review! :)
It's a good hint with the transition effect! Haven't really looked into GB Studio much yet...To the theme: You gather the 6 golden puzzle pieces that the dream bridge is made of, that exists since forever
This might be a good game, but I had no idea where you supposed to go. Nice job setting up cutscenes with the characters moving in game. I think you should have the select button to bring up the map like in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening had done.
Thanks! :)
I agree! I actually also thought of that, it will be in the full version soon !
Well made game, good job!
I found it fun to explore and enjoyed the music and effects in the game. Got the tiny boots and music puzzle piece 🙌
Nice game! I really liked exploring the world and figuring out the solutions to the different puzzles. It definitely has the vibe expected of a GameBoy game! I got three puzzle pieces and kept trying to look for the rest before deciding to check the description to find out the rest of the pieces weren’t implemented.
I played this on stream today (recording here), in case you’re interested in watching a playthrough. I did find some missing collision tiles and wasn’t sure if that was meant to be part of a puzzle, but it seems not.
Good job and hoping to see this expanded in the future!
Thanks so much for playing and sticking around til you got the 3! Good Job on that! :)
I had so much fun checking out your stream, and seeing how you played my game xD Yes, i found the missing collision glitch later aswell(yikes!). I really wish i'd had the time to implement the golden fish and also the rest of the pieces ofc. And some polishing... but yea im still quite happy with what the musician(phantomaxis) and i got done, and seeing someone play and enjoy it is just so satisfying, i cannot describe it with words!
You're doing something truly great for the indie game community with your streams and videos! Thanks <3
I will complete the game very soon, already on it! :)
great game, the animated tiles give life
A really beautiful game, it definitely took me back to my childhood playing this, triggered some fond memories :)
Definitely feels like a Dragon Quest Monsters or a Zelda from the Gameboy! High quality gameplay, graphics, and sound!! Great work!
its so nice !!! it makes me happy😃🙌🏼
This has a potential to be turned into a complete story, added with the various soundtracks in different areas, it fits in the gameboy vibes just right
Added this to my favourites
:DOh, seems like i forgot to reply a few days ago!
Thank you very much!
Yes, I will definitely finish this one soon, i had the complete game in my head already, but the jam time just wasnt enough xD scoping is really hard!
This game is awesome. Music, art, adventure, really encompasses the gameboy soul. Great job, and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take the game!
Thank you! :)
Yes, i will definitely realize the full vision of the game soon, which i had to cut short in the end!
Im already super hyped myself about the rest of the content xD (already working hard on it!)
Contrary to expectations, it's rare that a GBS game really captures the Game Boy soul, especially of a proper adventure. This game manages to do that from the get go. I did find some humor in its demo state, like the sage telling me how useful the book is and the protagonist is just like "nice, happy for you".
The sunset scene is a banger. This would be a choice use case for GBS's tile animation IMO (which I saw used in the water, also a great use).
The music puzzle was pretty fun. It took me a sec to realize it was one because I was thinking about the sound effect and how GBS should bundle its own solution for them, before I realized it was a "wrong" buzzer. Soundtrack overall enhanced the world, with a feel like Pokemon Red/Blue.
I almost gave up vs the Pegasus Knight, but they ragebaited me enough to stick with it. Then after I won, they stood on same tile as me to prevent me from moving. (I got out using the pause menu)
Feature request: let us pet the dog.
Thank you for that feedback! And for playing! :)
Wow, i had no idea about the Tile Animation in GBS yet! (I used GBS the first time ever for this jam, and i utterly love it!)
(I used actors for the water tile animations btw)
Yea it's weird that you can end up stuck on Pegasus Knight in the end, it happened to me a few times aswell, will look into that!
I took note of your feature request! :)
GBS may be the tool for you then. I personally love it too. I feel like many GBS games are carried by the templates, but you are figuring out how to bring things to life yourself, which will set you apart from the pack.
I found a diamond in the haystack. I haven't rated a game all 5 stars in everything until I played this. I tried to finish your game but I think you said its not complete yet so I managed to get 2 puzzle pieces from the cave, fishing , and then the running shoes. I exhausted the world to find it but even the old guy said "it might be impossible to find all pieces at this time" What a great demo then! I like how the things you are working on are under construction or blocked off. I loved figuring out I can move the boulders, and loved figuring out how to cheat the race. Now the most important thing I loved was how much it reminded me about Pokemon. I haven't played pokemon in years especially the old pokemon. Its been a while. The "old fishing rod", the fishing mechanic, the multiple dialog with npcs when you hit them more than once on them, the variety of dialog, the twins dialog, the "cave", the boulders blocking the cave and you having to use strength to use them, the running shoes and learning you can run, the under construction areas, the water art, the art in general. There were Japanese styled art based on the scene with the sunset from the clouds and mountains.
I played it thouroughly and its polished, very polished and I wanted to play more!
small bug When you find puzzle piece when fishing it plays the music but then background music doesnt start after you get it
The music is amazing you have a variety of music in the game for when you are in the cave, getting a puzzle, different areas, the twister sound, and more so 5 stars.
I love your game, it made me miss pokemon, it made me realize why old gold or why old games are so good. Why pokemon was good. Why I liked it. (5 stars on theme) I loved figuring it out on my own. Now these days most people don't have the patience to figure out the game's mechanic and need to know the controls for everything or answer on how to do it. But I love games where you learn the controls through the world. And this was done right. Especially because I loved the world enough to keep playing and want to figure it out. You created a beautiful world and honestly this was a huge inspiration to me so thank you. I will save this game.
Your feedback on it's own made the whole jam worth it for me. Thank you <3
There is nothing that makes me happier than to inspire someone.
It's so nice to hear that it reminded you of the good ol' pokemon games... They are some of my biggest inspirations, and had a huge impact on my life!
And well, since you wanna play more i got good news for you! I will develop the rest of the game after the rating period is over! I'm already working on it! :)
and btw, there is one piece that you can still discover ;)
I'm super impressed how much art you managed to get done in the jam period! The music was nice and it was a good time, vibes wise. I like the puzzle in the cave, but struggled hard in the race hahaha
thank you so much! :)
Yea, the race is a bit on the harder side i know, but i wanted to have somewhat of a harder challenge in the game too, a bit of that hardcore vibe of the old games. i hope it wasn't too much of a pain xD
No no, it was definitely still fun! It felt more like a puzzle race which I found neat
best scene ive encountered in the game, cheers to that :3 (that was a lovely sunset to enjoy for a minute too :D)
im very happy to hear that ^^ thanks!
