How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Old Gold - We took that idea somewhat literally with our character being put into a situation where he is forced to exhume his passed relatives in order to obtain valuables he can pawn to pay his bills.

Good concept! There were some minor graphical/technical bugs (sometimes the player sprite is placed behind the dirt piles, there is a collision pause before being able to grab the unearthed gold).
Overall the game punishes NOT min-maxing. If there are a few days before bills are due, as the opening suggests, then why not have a Majora's Mask style countdown? Give the player three nights, each timed, to collect as much gold as possible? Don't punishes players for not collecting enough, just kick the debt can down the road and add it to the next bill.
Thank you!
That was kinda the plan! lol But this was our first jam as a team, and we ran out of time. Hopefully we can do more next time!
fun little game but similar to others, i couldn't get past the 1st level. i feel i only got to 9/10 after a few tries because i was trying to min/max -- i would dig up all the graves in a row then walk through all the graves to collect the gems and i feel like i am only playing that way because it takes a long time to wait for the collision boxes to go away. and even then, i felt i must've gotten lucky with the gem placement. it feels rng rather than skill-based at the moment (which is not a bad thing, but can feel "unfair"), i'm sure it's partly because i haven't figured out the pattern but i felt i had no time to really stop and think about it (of course i can just restart a bunch but the mindset is to start as the level starts). i think changing the time for collision boxes to disappear or extending the current time a little could make it feel less rng. i'm not a huge fan hand-holding so i don't think gem spawn patterns should be spelled out, but maybe some guidance on what to look for before the level/time starts could help as well. at the very least, i think that gives you time to think about what to look for before you're thrown in. lastly, i think mouse input might have accidentally been allowed (at least on the start menu).
i hope i did not blab too much and wasn't too critical T_T just wanted to make sure the player mindset (at least mine) made sense. echoing other comments, the art is absolutely lovely and the sounds are great. i think just tuning the time stuff will help the game a lot! i hope to get to the next level one day lol.
I appreciate the feedback. I did test a few time limits, ranging from 60-180 sec and 90 just fell right on that sweet-spot that felt like a classic GB experience. And as for the collision issue, trust me, I desperately wanted to fix that. I ran into some issues I'm sure were rooted in me being a first time dev.
The timing of when the collision boxes disappear is a little bit weird. Strange idea to digging up old graves for gold :D But you hit the atmospheric good!
Thanks!!!
Cool game. It has a fun art style and gameplay. Even though there are moments where the player seems to clip through textures (I saw it happen once), it’s a good game overall. I wish you the best of luck with the development of your future games.
thank you! <3
The time seems to go so quickly! :O I only got 4... points before running out? Was there meant to be an indicator as to where the gems spawn? Maybe the headstone? Hmmm... Anyway, it was quite good~! I especially love the sound effects :)
There *is* a pattern to where the gems are!
Thank you sm!
My family (and pets?) have been holding out on me with those diamonds! Great interpretation of the theme.
thank you!! <3
Ah- a fellow shoveling game! The graphics are excellent in this, but I'm having trouble progressing in the first level. I dug up every grave- not sure if I missed something.
I had a similar problem, looks like you need to wait for the coffin to appear before the collision box goes away, then you can collect the diamond!
thank you sm!
ther maaay be a little pattern to where the gems are!
and yes, sorry abt the collision!
