I think you created an amazing game with it's lively world and cool concept. Something about the gameplay itself felt lacking though for me. I am not sure if it needed more obstacles or upgrades or something but that was the only part I didn't fully jive with. One other minor thing would be when near the surfaces having clouds or something help show movement since I couldn't tell if I was actually swimming to the boat at the end of a dive from the animations.
Thank you for the feedback! The level design was certainly something we were trying to figure out.
Wow, really nice art and sound. Neat animations as well.
I sadly had great problem with the harpoon and the reeling in mechanic :<
I did not fully understand how to reel myself in after i hooked something so I only reached level 2.
Oh no, sorry to hear about your harpoon troubles! If you want to give it another try, you reel yourself in by pressing "b" again. If you get caught on something by reeling, you can get stuck and the harpoon disconnects early. You can also only harpoon to rock, sand is too soft.
the production quality is incredible nice work!
Thank you!
Crazy good artworks and animations! The animation transitions for the player are really good
Thank you! I did all of the diver sprites in Aseprite. I was really happy with how fluid the diver's movements turned out!
Pretty fun gameplay, except the movement is a little janky. It feels very much like a gameboy. I really liked the rope on the harpoon gun, I also use Godot, so if it's not to much trouble, do you mind telling me how you made that rope?
The rope is made up of of a string of low-mass circular colliders joined with PinJoint2ds. We had to switch to the Rapier physics addon to make it stable. Rapier also has a RopeJoint2D that we used for the first and last joint (to the harpoon and player, respectively). It sets a maximum separation with free movement.
Unfortunately, some of the movement jank is because to make all of that work, we have to make the character a RigidBody instead of a CharacterBody. To make that better either the RigidBody controls need to be dialed in, or we would need to develop a system that uses a CharacterBody (hard, because it doesn't respond to forces).
Thanks
Your artwork is absolutely lovely. Just magnificent. The gameplay was pretty good, but I will admit it took some time to get used to the movement, I bumped into a few more jellyfish than I care to admit. All in all, great submission!
Thanks! The movement probably could have used another day to really do some work with the harpoon, and maybe make the sharks a little easier to dodge.
The art and animation in this game is.. no other word for it.. epic! I am in awe, a mere mortal amongst the gods. It's fun, it feels like a gameboy game and was truly fun. Great work
Thank you! We really wanted to hit the GameBoy art aesthetic with some twists, so glad you felt like it worked!
This is probably the most "Gameboy" game I've played all Jam! The movement, art, and music all felt like a GB game, it was like playing a mario underwater level. I did have a bug where the game audio overlapped when I got to the surface and went to the next level a few seconds later.
Also loved the lighthouse reference.
Thanks! The underwater Mario levels were a big inspiration for the gameplay and music. Sorry about the bug, hopefully it didn't ruin the experience!
Really cool, i appreciate the momentum based movement
Thank you! I perhaps spent a bit too much time doing the physics-based movement, so I'm glad you liked it!
Overall a great experience, the art is fantastic and interesting gameplay with the harpoon. Also loved how the color changes when nearing the coins. Would have been good to be able to turn up (or down) the volume, as the background music was a little muted. But good job to the whole team!
You can tell that there are 4 artist in the team
the puns are getting me xD
"near depth experience"
"you dived"
xDDD
THE ART IS SO COOL HOW DID YOU MANAGE THAT SO QUICKLY WOW (i wouldnt even get close in a month lol)
Thank you!! ^_^
We have 2 people on the team who are extremely talented artist. We couldn't do it without them! We are so glad you enjoyed it!!!
love the game style and harpoon pulling mechanic!
but its a little bit unforgiving on level 3, died there 3 times by shark in narrow hallwhen was trying to get into cave and got into starting cutscene
Thank you!! ^_^;
Sorry about the difficulty spike. we wanted to make it challenging with the short amount of time we kinda spiked the difficulty too early hahaha
I take all the blame for the shark in the narrow hallway! That was really mean of me!
