This is a good game. But the Controls mentioned you can also press the J Key or the A Button (Xbox) to Jump, I tried these two buttons, it is not working. I am not sure if you forgot to program the J Key & Cross/A Button on Game Pad to jump. I think players in platforming won't get conformable with using the Up Key or Up Arrow as Jump Button.

Nice game and very helpful with the tutorial.
I was impressed by the great variation of tiles - well done in such a short time.
The background music sets a dark atmosphere but was a bit repetitive.

Developer

Glad to hear you liked the tutorial, I got stuck trying to explain the game without just giving a wall of text so made it a level. I agree with you on the music, I was tired of it after testing the game a lot.

It's amazing that you made this all by yourself, good work! Love the art design, it is so good! Keep going!

Developer

heys, thanks for the comments. Glad you liked it.

Art design was great, really felt like a cavernous junkyard & very gameboy-esque vibes - also enjoyed the two variations on areas! Music was also nicely ominous. Spelunky vibes, would have loved some enemies/more animated obstacles if the scope gets expanded in future!

Developer

thank you for the comments. Glad to hear you liked vibes. I struggled with implementing enemies, my mistake for leaving it until later, but I agree it could have used more dynamic objects.

Great game coming from just one person. Loved the art and how the colour palette changed between levels, thought that was really cool. Liked the music as well. You did a great job to create all that by yourself. Probably my only nitpick is that I would have liked to not go allll the way to the beginning when dying, but other than that great job!

Developer

heys thankyou for the kind comments. I agree with you on going back all the way to the beginning. I’ll definitely add a “go left to skip tutorial” in future jams.

Really loved it, Super impressive project from one dev especially considering it was submitted a day early. The music loop was a vibe and had a lot fun with the platforming. I had similar problems with the hazards not sticking out but felt difficulty wasn't an issue. The design of the levels was maze like and reminded me of the levels in Spelunky

Developer

ahh the benefits of being unemployed meant I had a lot of time to work on it. Anyway, thank you so much comments, glad you liked it. I’m so happy you liked the music because i was getting pretty tired of hearing it after a week. It’s funny you should mention spelunky because that was a direct inspiration. :)

Great game, huge +++ for tutorial section

Developer

thankyou for the kind comments. I made the main menu a tutorial after getting stuck on how to explain the controls/premise in a menu (a smaller font would have helped). Happy to hear you liked it!

Your tiles are really nice. I know you said you took inspiration from browsing lospec (same tbh) but I really think you have an eye for it. I liked the atmosphere of this recycling plant, though I could not make it to the second area with the green palette before dying. The outline around collectibles worked well. The environmental hazards I wish stood out a little more, but I learned to be more careful after getting hurt a couple times. I thought I was doing pretty well with 95 points until I looked through the comments. I'll come back later and try and get to the green zone.

heys, first of all. thankyou for the comments on the tilework, really appreciate it. You’re not the first person to mention the hazards being unclear and I certainly think the hitbox for the round spikes is a little too large. I believe most rooms with hazards should also have a heart to heal with in them. thanks again.

I enjoyed the atmosphere, but I got stuck several times trying to find a new path to explore.

Developer(+1)

sorry to hear you got stuck. I tried my best to make every level navigable. but happy to hear you liked the atmosphere

The artystyle and sprites are really expressive. Gameplay wise I think it could have used a little more direction. The music builds a really heavy looming atmosphere and I was expecting a monster to chase me or something scary around the corner.

Developer

i was working on enemies but got really stuck on them. (they would tend to just kill the player instantly) But a big trash ghost that chases you after a while… ahh would have been great. Thankyou for the comments though and glad you liked it.

I love the cluttered, junk-strewn world you've crafted! All the broken items and the trash piles really sold the environment. That said, I was lost for a while on what I was supposed to be collecting because the gameboy on the start screen wasn't collectible. Also, the obstacles were super hard to tell apart from the rest of the world. Great work on this--it's a really cute platformer!

Developer

thank you for the lovely comments. Yeh you are right, I should have made the gameboy a collectable it sticks out too much. thanks for the comment on the obstacles I was struggling to get them to stick out given the colour limit. Thanks again.
