what a gem! perfect art, gameplay and audio. doggo is so cute too
i love the limitation of space you can have in here, i had fun digging and choosing which fossil i should get back home and sell! the mechanic is simple but i had to put my mind in it on how to get all the fossil i just dig fit in 1 bag its really engaging!
Wow, I finally got around to playing this one and I'm glad I did! What a beautiful art style. The parallax and waves look sooo awesome and all the sound effects and UI are great. An incredible amount of polish. A very unique and awesome entry (although I feel a bit dense because I couldn't figure out how it fit the limitation).
Man, the amount of polish here is insane! From the intro to the UI, the digging animations, the day transitions, and all the little sounds and visual feedback. It was easy to forget I was playing a jam game lol. Filling out the collection log was a blast, and trying to cram as many fossils as possible into my bag became its own little spatial puzzle every day. Loved having upgrades to work toward too!
And the atmosphere was so relaxing. Nothing beats the sound of waves crashing on a beach. Loved the rain too, especially the way the little droplets hit the ground and shrunk/faded out. The music had this Charlie Brown kind of vibe to it, which felt oddly perfect for a little dog digging on the beach. Kept thinking of Snoopy XD. Loved all the little UI sounds as well. Seriously impressive work from everyone involved!
This game has such crazy polish it’s so cool!!! I love all the blips and boops. The gameplay loop is simple yet so delightful and addictive. And the addition of the puzzle mode is so awesome! The art style is so beautiful too! Thanks for including the BTS on the game page! It’s really cool to see the stages of development since it can be hard to imagine what it takes to put together such a polished product!
While a bit light on theme and limitation, absolutely incredible little gem! The UI is very well polished and feels super tactile and satisfying.
Thank you! I think in our heads we were channelling an autumnal coastal walk with the waves washing away the day but probably could have pushed is a bit further. Our developer Mykekip put so much work into perfecting every pop, bounce, shine and rustle on the UI so I'm super glad everyone is loving it so much!🍃
A really well made and polished even as a non jam game! Very fun to play through, and i loved the details on the log. Best game i've played so far, great work!
I definitely recommend giving it a go! It was quite challenging to make it seamless for the scrolling to work I had to draw it in two halves on separate sheets then keep swapping them over so that their edges always matched. But I think it was worth it for the unique look it gave. :)
I love Dogg, especially how his little tail wags when you're digging up a fossil
Awesome game, very chill and satisfying gameplay loop and I liked reading the fossil facts in the collection log. The ending was very touching as well.
Lets go! Have you tried puzzle mode? No 6 "Old Harry Rocks" is surprisingly tough.
So glad you played the whole game and enjoyed it so much. I love Dogg too he is the work of the other illustrator, ever time he'd share a new update of his progress I think I made a little squeak.
Just had a go of the puzzle mode there, I really enjoyed it too :)
It took a while lol, there were some tricky ones. I think 8 was the hardest for me
Absolute masterpiece, it's like you combined backpack management with animal-crossing-like cozy vibe perfectly UwU
The puzzle mode is a nice touch too, thanks for making and sharing!
Thank you for playing to total completion and for leaving such a detailed comment! It means ton that you enjoyed it so much :)
This game is so completed, it can be just a fully launch game on steam already, i love the detail of the fossils and the way you manage to carry them. such an unique concept. This is for me the game that should win the game jam
Fantastic art style with a fun, cozy little loop. I played for about 15 days before taking a break to rate/leave my feedback. During my time with the game so far, I found my stress melting away as I hunted for new fossils with each new day. The loop was easy to understand and I liked the progression system, but I wanted more tension or for the loop to evolve or somehow change as I continued to collect more and more fossils. Overall it's really nice, and I LOVE the behind-the-scenes footage y'all shared on the game page as well.
Some thoughts on potential improvements:
Thanks for the feedback! I had a play tester mention that the hitboxes were too generous and I definitely agree, I think the interaction area should have just been in front of the player character. I think having a team member for composing would definitely be something interesting for a future jam
Damn this is way too polished for a jam game good job, (also there is one fossil that looks like saddam meme picture)
May I refer you to our official stance on this matter. 🤨
WAAA this game is so cute and cozy! I really love the artstyle with the fossils and character, the UI was super clean as well! Love the fossil hunting gameplay and having the puzzle mode on top of that is crazy!! I love puzzle games like these, so this was such a lovely treat. All the little bonuses to the bag collection and upgrades were great as well! The music was very charming and cute as well, I was wondering if their music was completely free for people to use (with crediting of course), or did you ask for permission?
Such a great game overall, congratulations to everyone on the team!
Hey, thanks for the lovely comment! The musicians work is actually free to use without attribution which is crazy because I think their music is beautiful. I think next game jam we do I would like to work with a composer as some of the original music this jam has been what I’ve adored the most.
Well polished cute and cozy game! Who doesn't like strolling along a beach? Nice usage of the palette in many places. Cool inventory mechanic and tons of fossils to collect. Comfy music to bop along to and enjoy the days recreation. I like the theme since I've been rockhounding on beaches recently haha
Thank you so much! Making it has made me want to go do just that lol
Holy polish, Big fan of the art style and UI work!
Thank you for the really kind comment! We had a blast doing it, with two illustrators it was interesting figuring out how to blend our styles. :)
Wow, this is the most polished game I’ve seen so far!! As a jam entry, this couldn’t get any better. Everything already feels really balanced, from the weather changes, to the amount of time you spend digging, to the transition between the days. It all makes for a very natural sense of progression.
Ahhhh this is so nice to hear from a game that I absolutely adored, your usage of the limitation was so good and your digi art was awesome. There totally was a build which was a lot less balanced in both directions so i'm glad you thought what we submitted was well balanced!
Amazing game. Nothing else to say other than this should be on steam
Hey that's super kind! I thought your game was amazing too, it had loads of expressive character in the art and characters
This game has top tier UI for any game, not just game jam games. Fantastic job on that!
The animations and sounds and design were all good too. It seemed especially stable and bug free.
I lost track of time, trying to decide how to optimize how many new things to get per the weather. And after I figured out you get optimal points for neatly filling the bag, I did that every time.
The core loop is great and could be developed more by having some sort of tension in deciding what sorts of sand piles you want to dig up, or if there was some conflict to avoid at the beach.
The meta loop was excellent with the upgrades, which of course could always be more balanced with time and testing.
I think the hook or goal of the whole experience could be a little stronger, (such as paying back your loans in Animal Crossing, or escaping your hellish home in Hades)
I'm telling you these three things in case you make something bigger from this, which I kind of hope you do.
I had to stop "early" (after a half an hour) and I was curious if there was an end game or ending, or a set amount of levels? (I noticed the calendar)
Currently there is an ending if you end the day with a full collection log, it uses the same UI as the upgrade and daily report screens to be like a page that fell out of the collection log, someone posted it in the comments if you would like to read it.
These are all really great ideas our idea on a sticky note for this was "Distil Animal Crossing fossil collecting into an incremental side-scrolling dopamine simulator" so you mentioning animal crossing is really apt.
Definitely didn't have time to add anything that causes friction, I would have liked the digging to be more than just press a button but I couldn't think of anything that could still keep the games low stakes feeling. Thanks for the lovely comment!!
I was fun trying to pack the fossils as optimally as possible, reminded me of playing Talos's Principle which I also enjoyed greatly. The entire game is really well-polished with stuff like UI animation and footprint trail. There's also lots of upgrades that I can research on. The weather system also adds a bit of variety to the gameplay.
Also tried the puzzle mode which was very fun.
For some reason the music becomes choppy when moving around, not sure if you aware of it. I'm using it on microsoft edge if that helps. Also I think using scrollwheel to rotate the pieces would be nice.
I think the choppy music is a browser play issue because there is quite a lot to load but thanks for letting us know. Scroll wheel to rotate the pieces is a great idea!
