How does your game fit the theme?
Our game is styled to emulate the tension of the countdown to a New Year's Eve kiss. As the clock ticks toward midnight, Kori is deciding whether to go for in for the kiss, and it's up to you to nurture those nerves, growing the butterflies in her stomach until she's got the courage to lean in. As the game escalates, every caterpillar you feed starts its own countdown too - a patience timer ticking away, stacking and compressing until keeping them all fed becomes its own frantic race against the clock.

this game is very enjoyable!! i like the premise a ton! it seems a bit unresponsive when grabbing things, but that might be my pc performance.
This game has such as strong sense of style its amazing! It's also surprisingly fun and how there's multiple answers to what the caterpillar wants is also such a good touch, it makes me think and engage more with the game! Great Game! :D
ogling at how creative this is from such a simple concept :O
You are too kind!! Thank youuuuu!
THIS IS FANTASTIC!!! i loved the music and the concept is so cute and i liked the dialogue of the hungry caterpillars (who were a little ungrateful i kept tweaking out and giving them not exactly what they ordered). really nice job!!!
Nice little game. I like the New Year's countdown take on the theme.
It has pretty artwork, and addictive click-action.
It also works well on mobile, which is a nice plus!
I recommend to people looking to get more reviews in while on the train.
:)
Three questions from me:
1) does the game end because you hatch a certain number of butterflies, or because a timer runs out?
2) is there a way to "fail"? - the caterpillars seemed pretty generous, even when they got timers;
3) what do the red butterflies do? Something bad, I assume? Were they eating other butterflies?
Thankyou so much for the feedback, I’m glad to hear you liked it!
To answer your questions:
1) The game ends when you reach max excitement, which happens at 24 butterflies. We probably could have made this clearer sorry!
2 and 3) Yes there most definitely is a way to fail! The “red butterflies” happen when you let a caterpillar go hungry or feed them 2 x incorrect items in a row, the caterpillars begin to eat your butterflies 😅 It’s pretty difficult to entirely fail, you have to kill ALL of your butterflies, but if you start the game and immediately feed your caterpillars the wrong food, they’ll kill your 2 starting butterflies and you’ll get the lose cutscene. Check it out if you get time, it’s pretty fun 😁
Oh, that sounds interesting!
I'll check it out on the train ride home from work.
Nice work! The art style was really nice and I definitely liked how creative and a little weird the game was!
My only complaint is that I tried to give a caterpillar asking for veggies a pizza, and it didn’t work. Obviously pizza is a vegetable! I remember hearing that claim as a kid and I still find it’s ridiculous
Anyways, well done with your first jam and first complete game!
Honestly... I agree. I take full responsibility for not making pizza an acceptable vegetable.
Thank you though! It's so affirming to hear the game called weird/strange/absurd because that was exactly the goal hahahah
So cute and pretty, such a fun and creative take!! As simple as the gameplay was I found myself spending quite a bit of time on it, collecting butterflies and just seeing the funny caterpillar lines. I also like how you added an easy mode, this is a great option for a jam game. I think the only gripe I had was as much as I found the art pretty, it felt a little hard on my eyes especially with the UI feeling like it fuses with the game too much (this can also just be my own failing vision lol). Little feedback like buttons shining or increasing in size helps with that.
Man if only my new years are fun like that. I do have to ask how Kori has the ability to stomach all that food...
Woah thank you, Daniel!! Feedback from the GOAT himself has me feeling very proud :)
Oh, yeah, Kori has an otherworldly ability to stomach food... Idk if you saw the loss ending, but she does suffer the consequences hahaha
Beautiful art, and I enjoyed how angry the caterpillars got when you fed them the wrong item. The one critique I have is the music felt very repetitive. Overall had a good time!
This was probably one of my favorite game jam submissions so far! I love the gameplay loop, it gets extremely stressful extremely quickly! Amazing art and sound! Bravo!!
it was so cool!! and so creative too! my first run was terrible because i didn't understand the wishes, but when i finally got it, BOOM! it was so fun to play! wish i could play more levels in the future!
i love the art!!!
the way you incorporated the theme, the game idea, the art, everything was SO good. i also loved the touch where as excitement rises more and more crazy things begin falling down! the requests from the caterpillars were a little bit hard to grasp at the beginning, but i understood them fairly quickly. genuinely amazing job to all
Really cute game!
Making butterflys in someones stomach is not something I could ever come up with. Super creative and I liked how you have to sort of dicipher what the caterpillers want other than them just telling you it makes it way more interesting. Great submission.
Really creative and the art is cool. I ended up playing for quite a while :)
Thank you! That means a lot :)
Wonderful artwork! I love the theme of the game, it's really unique and creative. Great work!
Ahhh, thank you! I really liked your game too :)
Very cool artwork, definitely not understandable requests. Also with the difficultyrise I was just confused at times and started to do random. It was fun. Also the artwork reminded me daft punk style.
Hey, I'm glad you had fun! Do you have any specific feedback for what would've improved your experience? We understand that it is quite an overwhelming game (as intended hahaha)
I like that its gets overwhelming! But sentences like "Bubbles now", I thought beer could apply since it had foam but I believe it was champagne. "Getting born is tiring" -something like that- is asking for energy, which is coke. Is it coke or energy drink? When I started t obelieve it was coke all the energy sentences slipped past my mind. Then I realized what it needs. After playing for a few minutes I understood the rest. It was very confusing until that point. Nonetheless very cool game, very unique approach. I think the versatality and clarity is you answer to improve the game.
O M G
my first impression is nice artwork. (very very)
the audio, the animation. what a well done game!
Thank you! :)
I really love the funky artwork, the gameplay is fun and also funny who knew caterpillars are into beer and stuff. Everything about this game is good, its a overall high rating from me. Good job!
These aren't your standard caterpillars... Thank you though XD
I loved this take on the theme! Great artwork, and fun gameplay too, it got very frantic by the end. All those needy caterpillars!
The only thing I wish is that the collection would persist outside of a run! During the game I was too busy feeding to look at the butterflies I was breeding.
And nice work on the voice line, good to get some other Aussie voices out there :)
From the goat of voice lines himself! Thank you thank you! Ahh, the collection on the endgame or main screen would've been a fantastic addition! If only we had more days... LOL
