How does your game fit the theme?
Count down the pulses of a grenade, cooking it until the last moment. Stuff it into your engine just as it explodes to try and be first over the finish line. You have been given 9 hours to pay back your crippling debt, with a race per hour you better make each one count.

You maniacs, who are you?! I've found this entry through the youtube trailer and honestly what the hell, this oozes style and juiciness. The only thing that's unclear to me is why is it bad if I go too far, seems a little anticlimactic.  Other than that, it's peak.

Developer

The goal was to have the race end with a screaming stop, where you may splat against the wall if you don’t give yourself enough heat headroom to slow down. We didn’t get the time to add the feedback that needed to feel its best. Glad you liked it otherwise!

A very, very creative game with a surprisingly high difficulty! I enjoyed the detail that went into the art and texturing of this game - I really felt like I was desperately trying to win an illegal race at midnight to pay off my debts! It took me awhile to figure out just how much mouse acceleration I had to put into the turning mechanic, but once I did it was quite fun to try and balance all the different elements of the race. I also cooked the grenade a bit too long in the beginning and killed myself a few times. At some point, I just started memorizing how long I could cook the grenade for and not really using the sound design in a meaningful way. Overall, this game was a ton of fun, and I enjoyed the creativity and the atmosphere of midnight racing. Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! Really glad the game landed for you. We wanted to add a mouse sensitivity slider and calibration bit, but unfortunately ran out of time.

Such a fun 3d game, i had a bit of a hard time understanding the controls but i enjoyed this unique idea, great job! :)

Developer

Thank you!

The visuals are awesome and the concept is really unique, but I struggled with the gameplay, I couldn't get past the tutorial and after skipping it I always lost, something didn't click. Awesome game either way!

Developer(+1)

Sorry about the rough tutorial, it is unfortunately pretty useful for figuring it out. In case you missed it, there is more information in the description on the game page. Thanks for giving it a go.

Submitted(+1)

such a unique take and very well executed, congrats!

Developer

Glad you liked it, thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Love the retro 3D visuals!! The game of chicken mechanic using a grenade to boost engine is so damn cool!!
The tutorial is kind of interruptive for learning, but once I understood the control, it became really fun to play.

Developer

Glad you liked it! Sorry about the tutorial hahah

Submitted(+1)

nice concept and visuals, but unfortunately the tutorials are annoying ash lmao. I ended up skipping the tutorial and just try figuring out the controls myself and hey! it worked lol. Nice game though, I ended up trying a couple times before I was satisfied

Developer

Really glad we put a skip tutorial button in hahah. Happy you figured your way around it but sorry you had to, it’s why we left the tutorial kinda late cause most of the game is figure-out-able, just didn’t for see it being an active deterrent. Glad you liked it otherwise, thanks for playing.

I liked the visuals and the world, for some reason reminds me of something like the movie Death Race. I think someone else said, the tutorial isn't that clear. It tells you to hold the mouse button then click the mouse button to continue, then hold the mouse button. Too many button. I'm gonna try again tomorrow to finish the game since I've been drinking and using a touchpad lol. But I like the vibe of the world and it's interesting, but I think it's too much going on with looking at the road, the speed gauge, and the top gauge.

Developer(+1)

Yeah clicking to progress the tutorial text was a bad decision made too close to the deadline unfortunately. This probably a truly awful experience on track pad hahha. Hopefully it stops being too much with some more play, the gauge on top shouldn’t be very relevant if you’re shifting well and not crashing too much but yeah the general onboarding is rough and would be way better if we drop fed some of that stuff. Also hasn’t heard of Death Race and it may be the coolest thing of all time will definitely watch. Thanks for giving it a go!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Yeeeeeah, Death Race maybe not that great of a movie lol. Just okay. So maybe don't put it up there too high on your list of things to watch.  Or have lower expectations lol

Incredibly unique idea with some fantastic art to top it off. I really like how the car fights you, it puts you even more into the mindset of an adrenaline junkie. I didn't fully grasp how the game was played and the tutorial didn't help that much, but for what I tried out this is a fantastic idea that could probably be explored even further down the line. Great job !

Developer

Yeah sorry the tutorial is a little rough and spits a bunch of info at you while driving which is doubly difficult. We do explain pretty much everything in the description on the game page, but sorry that it’s a bit of a rough onboard. Glad you liked the car fighting you, a bit of a tricky thing to balance, thank for playing.

This is really a Unique concept, I was not expecting something like this to be honest. It is done nicely as well.

The basic car mechanics are super interesting, ones that are often not really seen in any other car games so that was a real breath of fresh air.

I do also think the tutorial was a bit weird, I did not understand half of it - Maybe the font made a bit difficult to read. [grab] should also indicate that it is with the mouse button, I did not know that until I went into the actual level.

The level/s themselves are simple but really good combined with the art style. Maybe would have preferred a more variety in them but for a jam game that's still good. However doing it 9 times over is bound to get repetitive.

The sound design I thought was really well done, all the car's sound effects were implemented nicely and didn't overwhelm everything else to much(just slightly).

Also I would prefer to get back into the level faster, so the Debt/Overdue screen could be improved.

Overall I really enjoyed it and thought it was really fun to play.

Developer

Super helpful feedback! Glad you liked it we weren’t sure a racing game where you accelerate one time would work but happy it landed for you.

The artstyle of this is so peak.. must be mike klubnika undercover. I would tighten up the controls a bit and make the tutorial a bit more approachable to new players but the premise is so cool. level of polish here for a gamejam game is insane

Developer

Yeah you right, we conceptually thought the tutorial would work so left it a bit too late. Glad you liked it.

Amazing aesthetic and unique concept!

There is a bug where if you finish a game, you need to restart because it gets stuck in the initial paper screen if you don't. The wheel steering, it's not obvious where you're supposed to click. The tutorial just say click the wheel, but it fails to tell you that you have to super specific where you click. It would help if the hitbox was larger and if there was more feedback at the start to show you are actually grabbing the wheel. Visualising the hitbox in the tutorial is also not a bad idea.

I haven't beaten the game yet but I'm getting better. Fantastic work, a very memorable experience!

Developer

Oh no not sure whats up with the document bug, you do return to the same document in between races and it should accrue more and more stamps, it sort of pays off at the end. With the wheel you should be able to click anywhere on the wheel the hit box for it is way bigger than the wheel so not sure why that’s being fiddly for you sorry about that. Glad you’re enjoying it despite the annoyances.

Submitted(+1)

Sorry, I don't think I explained it well enough. After finishing the entire game, you go back to the menu. When I try start a new game it gets stuck on the initial document screen, forcing me to exit the game and boot up a new game.

Yeah, not sure why I have an issue with the steering then. It's the same on the browser version, so not sure. You don't really need the mouse movement for anything else, so maybe you should anchor the steering to wherever you click instead.

Once again, I think you did a great job and the game is unique. Getting past these minor frustrations is worth it.

Developer

Oh fair enough yeah I don’t think we had time to fully test the game reset sorry about that. We did plan to make grabbing the wheel better just unfortunately ran out of time. Glad it’s worth it to push through and thank you for doing so hahaha

Submitted(+1)

Really unique concept and looks amazing, but the tutorial is weirdly difficult.

Developer(+1)

Yeah we left adding the tutorial a little late and didn’t expect it to have such an impact, sorry it’s a bit of a pain. Thanks for playing.

Submitted(+1)

Amazing game! Love the aesthetic and the mechanics, though they are a little hard to get used to

Developer

Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to really onboard well and tighten the controls up enough, they are supposed to be on the edge of uncontrollable but can be a little too far the wrong way. Glad you liked it, thanks for playing.

Submitted(+1)

Its oozing with style man I love the psx aesthetic

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

absolute amazing art and atmosphere for the game. The car was a little tough to get the hang of for the first few tries but I eventually figured out the trick. Super cool game!

Developer

Was a bit tough getting the out-of-control balance right, happy to hear you figured it out. Glad you liked it.

Submitted(+1)

Wow, I don't think you'll find another game like this in the whole entire jam. Genuinely a fresh idea!

Something about it gave me Buckshot Roulette vibes, and I mean that as the utmost compliment.

It was very hard to learn the proper timing of things as the tutorial kept pausing the game after each action. But I got the hang of it in the end. (Sort of.)

Impressive work overall!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it! I played your submission earlier today and I was hooked on it for almost an hour, Great stuff! Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Great game! The art is very stylish and I think its neat to see someone else do a similar steering system as I did, even if our games are really fundamentally different. It also feels great to go fast. 10/10 v fun

Developer

Thank you! Glad you liked it, played yours as well was real fun.

Def the most memorable game jam game i've played! Everything about it is just so... good!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you liked it

This really cool idea and artwork I like how the game show in first-person view, few games in jam can do this.

You did a good one !

If you have the time, please try and rate my game too :D

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it
