Fun game — it really clicks once you've got a dozen or so spells stacked up. The art is also very cute.
The first two levels took me ages, but after that there's nothing a round of spells can't solve. And if it can't, just another round XD
Ran into a bug though: after the third wave on level 5, the remaining time turns into "null" and the game won't continue.
Thanks for playing!
Fun game, that deer is terrifying. If you take this game further it might be worth giving it a custom cursor. I found it a bit hard to see where I was pointing at times, though that is more down to my cursor being small and black
Thanks for playing! Yup, will be improving this game in like a week or so. Custom cursor is not a bad idea! Thank you, I'll send your feedback to the deer.
Really fun game, the dark balls are OP!!!!
Also I got a <null> time remaining on like level 4 or 5, so I had to stop playing.
LMAO, I wonder what caused that bug 👀. Thanks for playing!
The sprite art is amazing. It is sooo cute.
The survival game play is pretty fun too.
Amazing job.
Thank you for playing and for complimenting the art meheheh. I'm glad you enjoyed the game!
I really love this! I've been playing it for a long time, and the deer totally startled me haha
Aww, thank you for playing me game! The deer really is a stand out 😭, might feature it more in the next update
This shows a lot of promise! The artwork looks great; the characters are colorful and memorable (the first time the deer does the thing made for a cool, shocking moment).
I think this game just needs a little more work in the balance department. In the second level I only had two snot watches, and that led to me just having to circle around all the enemies for a very long time, to the point where it got boring. Level 3 was when I finally had enough watches to deal with threats in a timely manner but still had to try to not die.
Then on level 5 I had ten modestly upgraded watches all with dark spells and completely rolled everything without a second thought.
So yeah, in the early game you feel a little too weak. Then late game (level 5 anyway) you feel way too strong. I think fewer enemies early on would have helped with level 2, and more stuff you have to buy to get the god setup online would have at least slowed the rate at which I didn't have to care anymore.
I really like the shop system, and I see you planned on adding modifiers to the wands, which would be very cool!
Good work!
Thank you for playing! I totally agree with all of these *wheeze*, I'll look upon on how to improve the early game and the overall game in general in the next update! Thanks for the feedback, DEER loves you <3
I really like this game, addictive gameplay, cool art!
thanks for playing!
I loved the pixel art and it felt like a polished experience! However, I think that too many enemies came out/the enemies had too much health, so the gameplay felt a little bit slow at times. Also, the hitboxes of some of the decoration felt a little too large. That's really nitpicky though. Overall, a great submission!
Thanks for playing! I totally agree, the decor was just a last second addition to make the levels feel a bit less boring (will work on improving them ) and as for the game balance, nyeeahhh.... I will try looking on how to fix that lmao, the whole game package for what it is right now is just a glued together pieces of features I've implemented on the course of 4 days, the levels, music and sfx wasn't even implemented 4 hours before the deadline 😭. Again, thanks for the feedback.
The visuals look very polished, I especially like the pixel art!
As for the gameplay, I like how the spell slots carry over upon death, makes it way less demoralizing that way. Also, I found the cooldown timer between spells to be a bit too long, though once I got the dark spell things sped up a lot, which I found nice. I also like how just about every sprite is animated; it makes the game feel a lot more alive!
I really enjoyed playing this, great game :D
Thank you! Your art is much better by the way, I especially like the usage of normal maps (man I should use that when I update this). Thanks for the feedback, I'll make sure to give it to the deer. <3
Really like the game! Very creative idea. The gameplay was smooth, visuals amazing! :D
Thank you so much for playing!
Fun little wave shooter! Moving with the keyboard while aiming spells with the mouse feels intuitive, and buying more spellwatches makes the action increasingly chaotic in a fun way. The rising difficulty gives the game a nice arcade rhythm!
Thank you for playing <3
Really love the art, especially the deer! The enemy variety is quite nice for a 4-day jam, and you have various spells too! I really enjoyed the freeze attack since it gave me more opportunities to move around and dodge. Overall, I think the attack rate could be increased. Most attacks taking around 4 seconds before firing is quite long, especially when you only have 2 spells. And enemy health is pretty high so it's a lot of running in circles. I think just having more action happening would really help the game feel and satisfaction to the upgrades!
Overall, fun game and really cute art! Congrats!
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I'll keep all of this in mind when I get the will to improve and update the game after the jam! <3
That deer will be in my nightmares. Great game, tho :D
Oh deer.... Thanks for playing!
Love the timed attack mechanic, creative implementation of the theme! The music was also great
Thanks for playing! The music is not mine by the way lmao, but it's nice you're enjoying those folks works!
OMG WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DEER!! Amazingly done for the 4 days! Unfortunately my playthrough broke at wave 5 with the countdown timer but it was quite fun until then! A lot of different enemies and I liked the idea of just buying upgrades reroll after reroll until my currency was empty. Got a lot of bullets quickly which I liked personally :) Good job!
Thanks for playing all the way through! The deer is just pure evil, don't trust deer y'all! And yes, it gets really satisfying the more watches you have <3
Yea, got the infinite level 5.
Fun Game
I really liked the enemy variety and the art. It's just too bad every enemy can be avoided by walking away. Even the fast ones can't hit you like that. The ranged enemies did force me to change up my movement atleast.
The upgrades and spells were cool, but there should probably be a fire rate upgrade, when you have too many watches the wizard can't shoot fast enough.
Realy nice art as well.
Thanks for playing!
Yeah, 83.33% of the enemy used the same "chaser" script that's why they're pretty much all avoidable lol, especially since they have a winding up animation when they attack. I'm planning on expanding this one out with more enemies and spells, probably implement the modifier concept that I sadly have to put under the rug, and especially your suggestion of improving the fire rate! (I feel like I actually added that smol slow fire rate frame to compensate with fully upgraded watches triggering at the same time, but I'll find a workaround on that to improve the fire rate).
Wonderful comment! Thank you for finishing all the way through <3
A very enjoyable action roguelite with wave-based combat and automatic abilities. I especially liked the cartoonish visual style and the way the sprites squash, stretch, and deform during animations. It looks simple, but works extremely well and gives the game a lot of personality.
There is also a great variety of skill modifiers, which makes progression feel interesting. I actually had a similar idea when the jam theme was announced, so it was especially nice to see this kind of concept implemented.
There are a few issues: enemies sometimes get stuck behind obstacles, and the music can become a little too loud. My main problem appeared after I died around level five. I liked that unlocked skills remained, and I would have tried another full run, but the early levels still take the same fixed amount of time. Since the player is already much stronger, waiting through those slow waves again feels unnecessary. An option to speed up completed levels or spawn all enemies faster would make replaying much more enjoyable.
Also, the deer transforming into their second form genuinely surprised and slightly scared me. It was creepy and funny at the same time.
Overall, it’s a fun project with enjoyable gameplay, plenty of upgrades, and especially strong visuals.
Thank you for playing and for giving such insightful feedback! I'll take note of these for when I will work on improving this game in a future update. Thank you so much! Such a big fan of your feedbacks, man!
Solid gamejam game! Good work!
Thanks for playing! <3
Interesting entry with nice visuals and amazing music! Took me a while to figure out that I'm aiming my shots with mouse (I was sure that I'm shooting in the direction my character is facing so I kept turning around to face the enemies when the timer reached 0 XD) but after that the game was really entertaining!
Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! and sorry bout the whole mouse thing to aim lol, the game could really use a tutorial in first booting the game up but eh ran out of time so I just shoved it in the game page. Will be updating it though at some point. Thanks for playing!
Really like the art! I think the first spell could cast a bit faster, but overall nice work!
Thank you for playing! I agree, the first spell should be faster lmao, I kinda ran out of time to balance things out, heck there's only even 5 levels, a few spells and 4 enemies literally uses the same "chaser" script but in different flavor. Planning on expanding this one out.
