I liked how silly this game was. My only complaint was having to wait to get back to where I was on each fail. Some sort of skip or checkpoint would be nice. Having to solve the puzzle using the main menu itself is a really neat idea.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And yes, I agree. Already have a fix for that, but it will not be patched until at least the day after voting ends. :*(

5/5 Game Experience! I was annoyed when I pressed key before the main menu, and the EXIT button stinged me! Kept me hook all along! Maybe you won already. cheers!

Developer(+1)

TYSM! <3
Keeping you hooked all the way already feels like a win.
Cheers!

I liked the puzzle of the game, wished that there is more level to play. I had a hunch of clicking the axe at the start of the game, not until dying several time and tried clicking it lol. The way to turn of the laser that was tied to the brightness of the game is also interesting.

Developer

Thanks!
Hope you found out how to use axe, tho ;)
I will definitely think about adding more levels, but wanted to make animations first, Im pretty sure, it should looks much better with them.

Really enjoyed this and especially enjoyed the hand-drawn look of it. Some of the puzzles are tricky, idk if I'm just bad at games or what but I did enjoy the challenge :)

Developer(+1)

I ve only just started learning to make some art, so hearing that about the hand-drawn style means a lot. Im 100% sure that a good artist could make it x1000 better, catchy, composition deepers and so on, but did ma best atm.
Thank you so much!

I've been wanting to improve my own art skills and hearing you just started but were able to get something with this much charm gets me more motivated to improve my own! Best of luck with it!

Love the meta-puzzle idea! And the "credits" button definitely took me back to the old Mario Paint menu haha. Good stuff!

Developer

Glad the meta puzzles worked for you :D
Also, I did not think about Mario Paint while making the credits button, but now I cant unsee it, BUT with another element! :O

This was an interesting puzzle game, I just wish there were more levels so you could come up with more puzzles to solve using this concept. I also like the art style, it reminds me of some classic flash games like Fancy Pants Adventure.

Something that I found frustrating was how much of the game was waiting. Having to wait through the Unity screen, the title screen (even after getting the axe), and the "Press Any Button" screen was pretty irritating after every failed attempt.

Overall though, good work for a solo project!

note - i looked at ur other projects and saw hella AI generated stuff and that makes me sad :(

Developer(+1)

Fancy Pants was actually one of my refs while I was figuring out what I could try learning to draw and what I could realistically pull off in limited time :) Ah, I miss the golden age of Flash games...

And yeah, agreed about the Press Any Button screen and the splash screens. I ve already added a skip button with a tiny joke, but as far as I know, we cant patch the build during voting yet :( More levels are definitely possible, but I want to finish the missing animations first. Thats not exactly a quick process, especially since I ve only just started learning it.

About AI: yeah, thats fair, and I probably should explain its use on those project pages more clearly.

SoS: AI was used for some backgrounds, which we then edited, because we could not find an artist. It also helped with the EN localization, together with Google Translate and a lots of manual rewriting.

GalaxyMiner was more of an experiment that went much further than I originally intended. I started with working JavaScript code from my very first project, written in vanilla JS without any libs, and reused my old vector icon generator.

Then I decided to experiment with Claude. I only wanted some help adding bloom, cleaning up the UI outlines and filling in the missing art. Instead, it completely redid most of the CSS, averaged everything out into a much more generic style and made the project look like everything else. My original UI was rough, but I was fine with that. I had also made several vector icons myself when made this project. They are still in there you can spot them because they are the wonkiest ones :D Claude redrew some of them and used those as a basis for the rest of the missing art. I took the experiment even further and used AI to rearrange some of my own music. Then, during one of the iterations, I noticed that Claude had also changed parts of the gameplay I had never asked it to touch. By the end I felt completely disconnected from the project and from why I was making it. Since it was only a one-week experiment, I decided not to rebuild everything from scratch. I kept it as a reminder of what happens when I let a tool make too many creative decisions for me.

That experience is actually a big part of why I decided to draw everything here by myself, despite having basically no drawing experience. None of the art in this game is AI generated. It is rough and unfinished in places, but it feels like mine, and I had much more fun making it.

I have nothing against AI itself. It is incredibly helpful for learning, analysis, localization and technical work, even some drafting or help with a brainstorming (as a mirror talking). Just trying to keep it away from every creative things now.

Sorry for the long read, and thanks again for the thoughtful feedback :)

Quite funny, I like these type of puzzle games that force you to think outside the box. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed! :)

Submitted(+1)

Great job! Not my kind of game, but I can tell you put a lot of effort in and it's really impressive execution. Very impressed to have done this on your own!

Developer

I really appreciate you giving it a try!
Thanks!

Died  like more than 30 times, would play again, needs more levels

Developer(+1)

30+ deaths and still up for more? I ll take that as a win :D Thanks for playing! I ll see about adding more levels too ;)

Submitted(+1)

I tried discover as much as I could, did found new things and then no more later, maybe there were more.

Fun little puzzle game.

Developer

Thanks for playing and exploring! Glad you had fun :)

Submitted(+1)

"Critical component missing" lol. It was really fun solving the puzzle! Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! :)

How many deaths at the end just wondering? ^_^

Submitted(+1)

I don't quite remember, maybe around 10 or even more before I finally solved it. Then I played again to see more ways to die. :)

Developer

That is exactly the kind of curiosity I hoped for! <3

I'm so used to following instructions and ended up pressing a button multiple times before my logically brain kicked in. I feel like this is a prime example about how you don't need to have really fancy art to have a good game.Sometimes simple can work really well. I did struggle but I might not be very good with puzzles. I figured that I shouldn't let the whole level load but I kept thinking, maybe I should wait for some things to load? Or maybe I have to place the exit sign on top of the door? Or put the exit sign over the pit so falling makes the exit? I feel like this is the sort of game that rewards out out the box thinking.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback!

This was actually my first real attempt at drawing the art myself. I had a ton of fun with it, and now Im trying to learn pencil drawing too, fundamentals. I had big plans for the visuals — and even some lore :D But, as often happens, a couple of crunch periods at work left me without enough time to finish even the animations.

Feedback like this really encourages me to put a build out there when it feels like a complete experience, even if it doesnt look the way I originally imagined. Thanks again!

ps: did you find outs how to finish the game? no spoilers tho :D

Submitted(+1)

Really like the style and concept.
Am to tired right now to figure out the puzzles, but will def give it another go!

Developer

Im glad you liked it. Get some rest, and good luck with the puzzles when you give it another go! :)

The loading screen jump scares me every time lol I've played it a few times and I feel like I discover something new every time~

Developer

Thank you so much! If you mean the loud sound on the splash screen, I ll try to fix it if the jam rules allow it — I hadnt noticed how startling it was. Im really glad you played it a few times and kept discovering new things! :)

Submitted(+1)

I had a good time. I would have liked to see more of the red guy, he looks really cool in the thumbnail. I just kinda denied his existence , and that was that.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much! Yeah, tats definitely something I still need to work on — and he will get his chance to shine! :) Ironically, though, it’s also kind of a meta-story because of the jam’s theme.
