How does the game fit the theme?
Yes. In the game you hire guards. Each round after the first, you must hire new guards to fight your old guards. This fits the theme because your guards constantly quit and betray you.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All code and assets were made by me.

How many people worked on the game?

Interesting turn based combat game with nice twist where you have to fight the guards you previously hire

Thank you very much!

The character design was really funny and cute! The game was really fun too. Great job!

I liked the game, but I wish there were more enemy types

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. The intention was to have more guardsmen but most of the time was dedicated to creating the core systems. A post jam update should fix that exact issue among others.

That was really funny game! Man, main character is really one evil fella, poor protestor didn't deserve such fate. I wonder what Tesy is, though? It can't even deal any damage when landing a hit.

Developer(+1)

Tesy is my test character I made before any other character in the game. She has two abilities, one that randomizes her health value and another that actually does damage to other characters. It is possible for characters to miss their attacks. Could it be a bug that Tesy doesn't do any damage when successfully hitting a target? It's hard to say without seeing for myself. Thank you for playing the game!

Well done making such unique game from scratch. I loved the comedy, who would hate to pet cats?? They had all the reasons to hate me haha!

The graphics are cute, and the idea to fight the previous theme is really brilliant! Both for the theme integration and as a general concept. I think this can be expanded a lot.

There are a few things that can really elevate the game

  • So indication for UI hover
  • Basic sound effects
  • Basic animation (E.g, fade out character on death)

And off course.. let me retry the level and not the game when I lose lol.. The writing was brilliant and I really wanted to know what happens!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback

The way you used the theme is brilliant. I think that you can create a full game about fighting the previous "draft" of units.

On the downside, I think the characters are a bit unbalanced. The self-destruct character, for example, is simply too powerful as you can use it as triumph card and win as long as you have a backup.

The animation transitions, the turn based strategy and the way the theme got applied here is very impressing.
All done by a single person. So far I've not seen anything like it. Congratulations =]

Thank you very much!

hey!!!!!!!!!!! i loved this game so much!

i have no idea if you invented this concept of you having to fight your previous group on every level, but i think it is absolutely genius! it makes you want to make an okay group that's enough to defeat your rivals, but also think about not making them too overpowered so that you won't be able to defeat them! i made it to day 12 i think and i had so much fun!

i hope you continue working on this game, and here's some things i'd personally like you to add:

  • more sound effects and polish in general. i think they would make the combat experience even better (and don't worry, i know you didn't add that kind of polish cause of the severe time constraints of the jam, and it's very understandable)
  • i'd like it if you made it so that you can advance the battle text when clicking (for example when it says: X used Y ATTACK on Z ENEMY). it didn't bother me a lot but i would have preferred it if you could skip these with a click, cause right now they advance automatically and i think that's not ideal. on the one hand if you do want to read those maybe there's not enough time, and if you just wanna skip them, they make you have to wait every time.
  • like another person said, i'd like to be able to win even when sacrificing my last bomb at the end.

other than that, the humour's really really good. i really enjoyed the game overall. congrats!

This was an idea I had before I found the jam so it seemed like a great opportunity to work on it. Thank you for your feedback, all of it is very reasonable and easily fixable. I plan on uploading a post game jam update for the demo before eventually working on the full version at a future date. Thanks for playing!

I love how everything is handmade, gives it a nice vibe to it, tho not exactly fully polished , its still pretty fun and a very solid entry to the jam, good job!!

Developer

Thanks! I'm happy you were able to find some joy in it despite it's current state

The butler is super funny XD The art style is a total vibe too, very suitable for the game's tone! I just feel the combat was lacking a lot of VFX and SFX, which did make it feel a bit flat. I love the concept though!

Developer

I 100% agree with you. I thought I had all of sunday to add all the finishing touches and characters but I was wrong. I had to cut some corners for this release. When I find time, I do plan on giving this game the polish it deserves. Thanks for playing!

Pretty playful entry. I was disapointed to discover that you lose when killing the last ennemy with a moss bomb's explosion, but it is what it is. I like what you did with the theme.

The humour is what really tie everything together. Every letter was a treat.

Developer

Yeah, thanks for letting me know about that oversight. When I do continue to work on this game, I'll be sure to fix that. Thank you for checking out my game

It’s a really cool game; I especially liked the visuals and the music, and there’s also some kind of strategic element here. Rate my game if you like.
