a really lovely game with fun gameplay! the music and animation are cooool!
Well done, everyone !
The art style is so fun — I love card games like this!
(Our game is still a bit short on ratings, so if you've got a sec to leave one we'd really appreciate it :D)
Cool game! At first I didn't understand how to start the game, but once I figured it out, it was fun.
Thank you for your kind words <3
Nice game! Like others, I really thought it was my system that prevented me from playing. I almost quit until I read the instructions saying (not) to press Quit, lol. But a lot of the rules being unreliable made it difficult to play with a clear goal in mind. The combat was interesting. I really liked the music, but the cards being random had me just clicking everything; still not sure if I won or lost...
Thank you for your feeddback, there was supposed to be proper dialogues guiding players but isn't properly put in due to time constraints.
Very sorry about that.
And glad you found out how to start! ^ ^
Visuals and music was on point but a lot of UI was left to be desired. To be quite honest, I was just spamming cards and not knowing what each does. At first I thought it was a similar mana system to Clash Royale but I never saw the meter go up or down. Spikes were also placed a little weirdly so not too sure which one to trust or not. However I do see the vision of the game and would love to see it more flushed out.
Thank you for the thorough feedback, we planned to make proper card description system that give players some ideas about what each card does but sadly didn't implement them properly.
And about the spikes... it's me, I sent the wrong level design to the coders and they didn't change them in time.
Really sorry about that T_T
that’s fair. A week working on it with 12 people will be difficult. I think I remember you saying that you were working with other uni students too so I completely understand the difficulty with communications especially under such time constraints. Fun concept though and definitely a good learning experience!
I could NEVER get past those red spikes properly TTT I don't know why, but they always felt either too wide or too tall for me to jump over... I ended up just getting hit and using that brief moment of knockback to float past them XD
But the character is SUPER cute, the monsters are SUPER cute, and even the card art is SUPER cute XD I also really liked the music, especially during the battles! It made the fights feel so intense and exciting!!
I do wish I could see what each card actually does during combat, though! I still have no idea what the difference between Gasoline and Strong Attack is TT And what does Ooch even do....TT
I agreed that the spikes are really really unfair and some are forced damage XD
And yeah there was supposed to have card descriptions to give players hints and ideas and different UIs to indicate healing/burning/and damage value (Yes we had all these different values but didn't make UI sprites to indicate these numbers properly)
Still, thank you for enjoying the music and art! Those are the only things we developed most TwT
Really nice game, it looks really nice !
Thank you for your kind words!
It's a little all over the place, but I like specific aspects. The character art is all good,
the yaoiis all good, the music is good, but everything kind of feels a little disparate. The enemies and player character feel like two different styles (not that mixed styles cant work but dosen't here), the writing dosen't really come around to serving a greater purpose than to just egg on the player, the movement is very stiff and hitboxes are unclear.
There's cool stuff here, but things just need a tighter bow. Also theres nothing wrong with a short experience (this is a game jam after all) but if it's going to be that short then things should change rapidly to compensate with the pacing. Think of the overarching experience the player will have.
Overall good job, just needs that little bit of polish to make it a really memorable experience.
(The first menu lie was cute, I think it set expectations well huehue)
Valid points!
I'd say most of these problems are due to having 12 (yes, 12) people working on this game
And the imbalance of having most of us be artists and writers
Im glad you took your time to write and point this out as it means a lot to the game
We planned to have a proper dialogues, fighting and damage UIs, a storyline, boss and more interactions between stage-sialogues-story
And of course an overarching experience of getting a huge betray at the end after a long journey of lies (that could also be truths)
And thank you for appreciating what we have right now, it's been hard to put all of these together as a leader of a big team ^^
Really liked the art style and the music, they fit the game pretty well.
That said, I found the gameplay pretty confusing at first and wasn't always sure what the cards were doing or what I was supposed to be doing.
The combat also felt a little rough, though I know you did try to balance things out with a patch.
Overall a cool entry with a lot of personality, just needs a bit more polish and clarity. Great job!
Thank you for liking the art and music!
So sorry we didn't implement the proper planned dialogues and tutorial stage
And yeah I pretty much agree with your points here, as most of the explanations and descriptions stuff are left unused due to time constraints despite them already being designed.
Still, thanks for the kind words ^ ^
I think the art is really cool! I like the card battle mechanic, it was interesting. I will say that a proper tutorial would be helpful and cancel out most of my issues, but for the given time limit I think it's pretty solid. Good job y'all
Thank you for your understanding!!!
We already designed the tutorial stage and dialogues but didn't have time to put them into the game exactly like that!
Appreciate it a lot :D
You've put a lot of effort, I really liked it. Nice execution of the theme, nice start page, and the thumbnail. I had to come back to start page to check the controls cuz couldnt jump over barriers but after it i got the hang of it.
Thank you for recognizing our effort!!
And yes we'd wish to implement a tutorial for controls in-game but ended up going for fixing major bugs first
Glad you've managed to learn the controls and overcome the obstacles :)
Bro it took me 5 minutes to start to game lol. Really nice job with the gameplay, it was fun!
Omg I'm glad you figured it out in the end XD
Thank you for your kind words!
Ayooooo not dream fanfic 😳
The art was indeed cute though. I think the UI might need a system to provide explanations for the cards and what cards the enemy is playing on me and then rebalance the frequency of these fights or have em be like goombas. Besides that it was a cute game :)
Please consider giving my team's game a rating too, thanks! 🙏 It's multiplayer so 8 people on your team could spin up a game :D
Thanks for your kind suggestions!
Actually I planned only 2 minor fights, 1 fake enemy, and 1 boss for this game
But we didn't have time for that so spamming little deer it is T__T
And a multiplayer game!? I've never seen that before in this jam
My team is busy right now so I'll have to experience it alone and maybe play together with them later after the jam is over ;)
12 ppl dude? Its fun, i need more time to fully playthrough, but great game!
Yes we showed up to a university club 2 days before the event start and suddenly got grouped together to make a game for this jam XD
The actual amount of people working in this is low (Especially coders since we had 2 and they are both VERY new)
Also Thanks for enjoying it ;)
Loved the music and art !
Thank you ^ ^
Hoorah I got to the ending peak art. I really liked the combat system and the art was really cool too. The music was also really cool.
Congrats on getting to the end! And thank you for the review ^ ^
I did need to read the comments to figure out the start button part. I saw the sign in the start screen and all but i didnt connect the dots. anyways, cool game and concept, i liek the art, and the music, expecialy the battle tune, kinda reminds me of deltarune.
I'm glad you liked the art and music! We really spent too much time focusing on them.
And yes this game is Deltarune inspired in many ways than the battle tune, our unreleased secret boss in the winner room yaoi is also representing a Joker. And originally there should be regrowable slashable vine in the platformer part too ;)
Art is amazing, and so is the music! I found the combat system to be a bit wonky though, I wasn't really sure what exactly was going on, like why the enemies were healing sometimes, and what the back-card-cards meant. I don't really mind though, as it seems quite chaotic to me to work with 12 people on one game, let alone in 7 days!
I did beat the game after a few attempts, and I do wonder who the other character in the
yaoiconcept art is.Overall a nice game, I enjoyed playing it :D
That character is the secret boss that is supposed to represent Joker :D
(Definitely not a Deltarune reference)Im glad you enjoyed the chaos and I'm really sorry we didn't have time to make a proper introduction and tutorial for what's going on!
Nice job beating it too. It's not an easy challenge to win ;)
I love how the quit button is the start button! I haven't seen that yet in the jam! Great job on your first game jam!
Thank you!!! The sign that says "start" on the title art is also clickable if you haven't tried ;)
I can't play the game as it is, pressing the start button crashes the game both in browser and upon download
haha, thats one of our gimmick! try press "quit"
That's our gimmick ;)
Like the other comment said, try "Quitting"!
