How does the game fit the theme?
You and the CPU can bluff their way through moving any piece to anywhere on the board, you just need to make sure you don't get caught, and don't trust any of them
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Repeating Pattern Textures are From Kenney (https://kenney.nl/assets/pattern-pack)
Chess Icons are from RhosGFX (https://rhosgfx.itch.io/vector-chess-pieces)
The Hand art was made by me, but during a previous game jam

Cool idea, though it feels was is something were missing. Chess without knowing what each piece is, is pretty interesting. For me it seems as if you had to take a chance everytime you think of pressing the Liar button. Some way of being able to tell which moves are legit and which are not would benefit the gameplay in my opinion. The concept is great and the theme implementation is good too.
I like this idea, but it is missing a goal and a reason. Like a score, for example, or making this a roguelike. Of course, there is no audio. I hand-switching colours is pretty neat. I think difficulties could be a thing. Maybe in easy mode it tells you what the piece you ate was and stores all the pieces you ate, or the bot is simply easier. More player feedback; I guess most of that would be the missing audio. Does the player always start first? It is hard to know who starts, and I think it should be randomized to add more personality.
7/10, I like chess, so I might be biased.
Please make sure to send a review my way too if you have the time
Thanks for such an in depth review. I completely agree with that, I’d love to see all those systems in place. The original plan too was to have sudoku like pencil markings on each piece to track what you think they are after every move to make things a little easier, but time was not kind to me this jam!
I like the revealing when you take a piece idea, and some way for the game to keep track of it for you. That would be really great if I improve the game in future, thanks!
very cool game , so much fun to play needs a lil polish but thats about it
This was a really interesting concept to realize the twist of. I think it's definitely missing some polish (button feels like you have to wait a while longer than you should to press it, no sound effects, no piece counter etc etc) but I think it was pretty cute as an idea and visually is executed pretty well! Could use a little more fine tuning in when the computer does something stupid, because it was pretty easy to notice it just always does it, and that takes away from a good bit of nuance, but again this is a sick idea for a game overall and I still enjoyed my time!
Just a really cool idea for a game! U might wanna add sound effects and music (i didnt hear any). I think that an overview of the caught pieces would be helpful to catch the bot cheating. Also if possible u could make it multiplayer.
Otherwise its a really polished game i will come back to for sure!
No checkmate, you say? Very excellent execution of the theme - seems unique too, so great idea! Does the CPU follow any logic as to when to bluff vs not? It seems to detect obvious bluffs, but not sure if you made it omniscient?
I think everything was top notch! I didn't hear any sound fx or music, so unless that was just my browser, I think that would be the main feedback I have to make the pieces feel like they are making contact with the board, and the button to have a really loud noise.
I've added this one to my favs and will be playing again. Very fun "bluff chess" idea
Such an interesting concept to bluff your moves. I can see these playing with randoms online having a blast.
Really interesting game with very polished visuals! Enjoyed playing this one, great job :D
Really fun game, I wish their pieces were revealed to you after you correctly call them out and after the game
INCREDIBLE!!!! Such a cool concept and an amazing execution. 5 stars.
I really enjoyed the concept of the game and the execution was well done.
I like chess a lot so I may have been at a disadvantage haha great work!
