I don't usually play this type of game but I really liked it.
The art was really nice, I especially liked the pixel art backgrounds, and the drifting mist effect was nice. The black and white sketches were also really cool, so well done all around I guess!
The gameplay was good though I thought that the ratio of choices to story was a little story heavy.
I absolutely loved the back button, I've never seen something like this in a multiple endings game, but totally fit and it was cool to be able to see the other endings without going through the initial story multiple times.
The sound was good. I felt that the music was maybe a little upbeat for a game like this and that it could have leaned a little more horror, but it still fit well.
My favorite thing was just how it came together into such an immersive experience, everything fit and had me engaged. I got ending 1 first and really felt something at having made the wrong choice so well done on that.
Overall great game and well done!
Thank you so much for the time and for the extensive review! Means a lot!
Happy you liked the art direction!
And yeah, the engine has some really quality of life features for the genre, like saves, skips and roll backs... and happy you took advantage of those! The title "Wavering" came somewhat from this idea of going back and forth and not exactly commit to a path.. π
I have tested some more 'horror' music, but Moe thought it was better to keep things more 'mystery' than just pure 'horror', and I think the end result was a nice compromise.. π
And happy the gameplay resonated with you! it was a week of hard work, hehe πͺβ¨
Really enjoyed the game. I got real invested in the story, and I felt like I was inside the world. Jumped from my chair when the first jumpscare came. The visuals were sometimes a bit inconsistent with the pixel art and non pixel art, but overall it looked really well made.
Thank you! Happy you liked it!
And I have had a few friends jumpscared too, hehe! Means it worked! ππ
The art and the story telling was astonishing. The choices were really good, I was able to get though all 3 endings(if there aren't more that I don't know of π) and it was satisfying understanding the creature the more you interacted with it after reading the scientific report. The save system was quite handful, I used it so I could explore the other endings more easily. I liked a lot the mix of traditional art and low-res/pixel art; It made the creature really stand out.
Well done on your submission! :D
Aww thank you so much!
Happy you had a good time!
And yeah, that was basically the concept Moe designed... if you show fear, it will not trust you as well...
Oh wow an underrated gem!! I got the good ending first try :D Loved the art and the sound design a lot!! Did you guys compose the music as well? The eerie atmosphere of the game is done very well. I only have a few things to point out:
Honestly all of these points are incredibly nitpicky, You guys deserve more ratings!!
Happy you liked it! Moe was responsible to the mood directino ππ
The music and most audio were from a few music packs I keep under my sleeve ππ
And thanks for the feedback!! yeah, the difference between the backgrounds and character art was a deliberate artistic choice β¨β¨
Loved the eerie vibes! The art and sound design supported the story well. Good job producing this given you were relatively new to RenPy. The only advice would be to lighten the contrast of the text on the game's Itch page because it's hard to read the black text against a dark background.
Happy you liked it! And thanks for the feedback!
I loved the story and feel so much for poor No. 1! It was really fun to try out the different endings. I also deeply appreciate the take on "trusting No. 1".
Haha, it was MoeLow's idea to embed it in the concept... Glad people are catching in! π
The art is good, just some unusual mixing between some high res and pixelated assets
Happy you like it!
The different artstyles were a deliberate creative choice ππβ¨
The art drew me in and I would love to just walk there and explore more of this world! The level of horror was done well in my opinion as well. Not too much but just enough give the feeling of suspense and unease. I did 3 different endings and the game length is good so doesnβt feel too repetitive.
Thank you! Moe did a great job defining and calibrating the mood!
It would indeed be cool to be able to expand this place! π
The artwork & animation were really good, & I liked the premise.β€οΈ
Glad you liked it! β¨
The horror was very well done! And the art and music were really great. I would totally play a longer version if you kept working on it!
Thank you!
Kudos for MoeLow, that came up with the premise and writing!
I'm glad it made you want more!
This was a fun experience! There is a lot of potential to develop it further and add more options. It reminds me of a gritty offshoot of Myst.
Happy you like it!!It was definitely a fun project!
And glad you see potential! β¨
I'm not usually a fan of visual novels or horror, but this was very well done! I feel bad for the little guy though :(
Glad you like it!!
Yeah, there are a couple endings when things don't turn bad for either of them though.. π
I really enjoyed the visuals and audio. Wether I was eaten by the beast or shot the beast I got betrayal ending which felt weird. At first if felt like the beast and backgrounds clashed but with the narrative of that beast it felt appropriate. Also I played on mobile and it worked really well so thats cool
Thank you for playing! Means a lot! πβ¨
Moe Designed the narrative so there is only a few ways to get the 'trust' ending... it depends on how much you and the beast trust each other... (I'll just leave it at that π)
And yeah, the difference with character art and background was an artistic choice and we thought the contrast would be nice for the game!
And happy it worked on mobile! πͺβ¨
