Crazy concept
I think this game is brilliant! The concept is hands down the most innovative thing I can imagine seeing in any game jam. However, you might loose a couple of votes to people who don't have the attention span to figure out what they are supposed to do. First of, you need to trust that the access token is not something dangerous to share. Second, you need to realise that you have to dive into the commenst (I didn't read the instructions because I was busy pasting my access token). And third: for some reason the second time I started to play the game I go stuck in some kind of 6 minute count-down and the pharaoh was just talking in a loop. Not sure what that was about. I do think that if you would manage to make the intro and the token-pasting less blocking, this game would get a lot more plays and views. But hey, at least you got my 5 stars.
You hit the nail on the head. We knew the access token would be a roadblock for people with a shorter attention span, or maybe just don't trust us or anyone. It was a conscious choice though—we wanted to ensure players couldn't just brute-force the game. Huge thanks for being a braveheart, trusting the token, and figuring it out! It takes some grit and determination.
As for the Pharaoh loop: we wanted to show a glimpse of the game early on to win people over while they filled in their token. The Pharaoh clearly has a lot to say, but that specific loop he ends up with after you die, unfortunately doesn't give enough information on the timeout taking place.
Thanks for the stars!
AMAZING game!
The only thing was that after some time, the game felt laggy / the performance went down, maybe it's due to the fact that it's a web build. Because of that, the music sounded super weird and I had less time to react to enemies spawning.
I think it's one of the most innovative game I've ever seen in a jam, so good job!! The login mechanic is smart & the community driven progress is such a great idea.
I really loved the game! Good job :)
We knew that adding a login step would mean fewer players overall. However, we chose to do it anyway to protect the game from being brute-forced and to keep the community aspect authentic. Shoutout to you for not letting the setup phase put you off! (And thanks for the heads-up on the web-build lag, we'll look into that).
very nice idea with login - first time I've saw that - nice graphics and music, playing your game I coulndt find any hint in community (is this game a multiplayer - dont understand how it works) and after 2 dies and waiting 20 minutes I dont know what to do
I'm very sorry for your bad experience. Please scroll down on the itch page until you see this:
Then click on "Hint?" where other players have left hints or lies. You must choose who to believe. You can also share your wisdom there or lie yourself. Good luck, and thanks for your patience.
thx for explaining that, you dont need to sorry - there are no bad or good experience - every experiences give us smthg, new :)
Nice concept with a cool meta twist. The community driven progress idea is really strong and gives the game a unique identity. The only thing that threw me off at first is that you kind of need to die to understand how the theme actually kicks in, but once that happens the whole idea opens up and becomes way more interesting. The vibe is great and the countdown aspect makes it feel like something people will come back to over time. Solid work. (pls play my game)
We faced a big crossroads moment during development regarding the login mechanic. We had it working technically, but we were hesitant to implement it because we didn't want to lose players before they even got into the game.
We're glad you pushed through that initial curve and that the concept opened up for you.
The fact that progress is made through the community is a really cool idea. The only issue I ran into was that I had to let myself die before I really understood how the theme was implemented
You touch on a fair point about having to die first to get the theme. During development, we actually debated: "Are we going to scare away potential players with how we set this up?" We knew it was a gamble and that it might take a moment to click, so we appreciate you sticking around to see how it works.
The game and concept is so cool, but I feel that the music is too short, especially when you have a timeout like you do in this game, and the music has a very abrupt loop I feel. I would add more tracks or make the current one much longer (if that’s doable)
The music is almost 2 minutes long, so I think you're mistaking the short loop for either the first part of the song looping, at which point more instruments are added, or the music stopping and restarting opun entering the access code. Thanks for playing though, and I will take into account for next time to make the fact the song hasn't looped yet more obvious!
Really cool concept, I'd love to keep track on the progress, this is the kind of games that later you see videos talking about the progress made by the community over the time, and I love those!!!
I really like the concept. I wonder how long will take the community to solve it.
I wish the community aspect was integrated into the game, with From Software-style messages or things like that.
Well, "Zelda tower of druaga on itch" certainly wasn't on my bingo card tonight.
Very creative idea, the gameplay is a bit clunky but I hope to get back to it once the countown is done.
At first it just felt like a "cool old zelda-like game with impresive visuals", but after I died the really game begun and it blowed my mind. Thats by far my favorite game of the jam. The sole idea is brilliant and i'ts very well executed. I'll keep trying to explore, once the countdown finishes
The meta game is insane, really. Like the concept and will return later to see where it goes :D
Interesting - I haven't seen anyone use an OAuth proxy for multiplayer with Itch before. Well done!
And kudos for setting a timeout - in a day and age where grabbing the attention and holding it is the highest priority this in itself is a differentiator.
Am planning on updating this at a later time...
Good luck!
This is a VERY cool idea. You guys wouldn't know how this would turn out, wich is very brave from you. The concept is sick, even better because of the theme where traps are a built-in BS squeeze out a hint mechanic. I like this game and WILL come back to it! Also to see how other people develop in the meantime.
I got really confused at the start, I couldn't read what the little guy said. I can't full screen for some reason... And I didn't get it why I had to share my itch tag. I thought it was a tiny simple zelda like
Only after dying and scrolling down I figured the meta-concept.
HOLY MOLLY, insane idea for the jam, congratulations!
I'll definitely come back after I respawn...
Hey, I updated it slightly, can you click on the fullscreen button now?
Hello! Yup, now it's working. That was a real quick bug fix, nice!
Love the music! The meta-concept of this game is quite intriguing. Hope to see more people leave their comments!
HI! Hope to see you again later, thanks for being the first to comment!
