Really good game, and clever way to reuse assets while making enough changes to keep the game interesting. I managed to make it to the end on my second attempt by dumping all my money towards damage. Really strong, well-rounded entry overall. Great work!

... I have to admit, I probably only got to the end because of the secret magical cheat code.  (I used the Full Purse cheat, then got the gaff and just kept paying to upgrade it, so I was hitting the Drowned King with a +9 weapon) :D  But when I wasn't dying every five seconds, I was enjoying it.  And I *still* died, magical cheat code or not, so the cheats are not an automatic "I Win" button, which was also nice

This is really big for a gamejam game (the fact that this has coop is insane), nicely done! Good theme interpretation with the gold getting old after each shore, and the gold getting left behind after death makes it less punishing, too. It feels very much like a gameboy game you'd remember from childhood, thank you for making this!

Of the games I played, this is one that felt very "Gameboy".

This is really good! I love the aesthetics and you definitely fit a lot of mechanics in there like the damage pools that you don't normally see in GB games (I know it's Unity but still lol).

This was cool! I like how cryptic the game is but without stopping you from making progress and letting you figure things out on your own. The crabs felt a bit too aggressive but the the boss battles were cool and getting new weapons was fun too!

Good game. It felt a little unfair when i just enter location and got hit immediately from a crab. I like the idea with new gold/old gold! Nice!

Finally got around to playing this game and it was a lot of fun!

Has a lot of Zelda vibes and I loved a lot of the little touches to the game (Dithered Lantern effect for the character; Old Gold to New/ Young Gold for certain items; different palettes swaps for each level; rogue-like updates as you go along)

And being able to add some other modes on top of the adventure mode? The programmer was firing off on all cylinders!

Great work on this game! :D

Game was fun, loved that there's multiple game modes, also Controller support. It kinda gave old Legend of Zelda vibes. Great Job

The boss battles were super fun and challenging, and the game overall really felt like a Gameboy game, nice job! LOVED the fact that hitting the trees sounded different, too, that was such a nice detail!

Developer

Appreciate it! The trees are a nice catch, it's nice when you see people pick up on the small details, and it's awesome the boss battles were fun and challenging at the same time. Happy it felt like a proper gameboy game

Every boss felt different and was a blast to figure out. The palette swaps between days are a slick touch too, kept things looking fresh. Also really liked the Gameboy viewer XD

Developer

Glad to hear the palette swaps are working to keep it fresh, and I'm glad you had fun with the different boss mechanics. Thanks, I was really happy with the way the gameboy viewer turned out too

I had fun! It really felt like playing something on a gameboy congratulations!

thank you, and congrats to you too. glad you had fun, feeling like a real game boy game is a great thing to hear

Nice job! Impressive that you did this in such a short time! Nice sounds, graphics are top, and it’s really fun to play. I love the boss fights!

Developer

thank you, that means a lot. glad you loved the boss fights, and good to hear the sounds and the graphics landed for you too

I liked your game—both its style and its gameplay.

Developer

thank you, glad both the look and the way it plays worked for you, appreciate you taking the time to play it

Really fun game! My favourite part was the 2v2s. I gotta come back and play this with a friend for sure!

Developer

thank you, glad the 2v2s were your favourite part, have fun when you bring a friend back for a few rounds

The Boss fights were very fun and the final one was challenging.  Survived with 1 heart left! The art work was cute and the dodge animation was super cute and very satisfying

Everything leading up to the boss fight was a bit too similar, would have liked to see the levels get more difficult in its entirety.  I also think the harpoon felt a bit stronger than any of the later weapons.

Overall, great job!  I had a fun time in the arena!

Developer

thank you. beating the final boss with one heart left is the best way to win it, and glad you had fun in the arena too

Pretty impressive that you managed to incorporate different boss fights (even if they were functionally the same). Unfortunately I got softlocked on day 5 after opening the chest in the center, I wasn't allowed to progress back down to the main path so I wasn't able to finish the game

Developer(+1)
thank you. the two bosses you didnt reach are the ones that break the pattern most, one shuts and you cant touch him till he opens, the other puts units on the floor you have to clear first. the first four lean on the circles a lot more so from where you stopped thats a fair read. and that trail is on purpose, you can grab the chest and head back down normally, but going too far to the right up there lets the tide take the road behind you, the trees are walkable up there tho you can walk thru them and cut straight to the dungeon entrance.

Neat game!

My nitpicks are that I would have liked to see a bit more clearly how far my weapon reaches when attacking, and I sometimes took damage from crabs while changing screens, which feels a bit unfair.

Other than that, though, it was fun playing through the different days and fighting the bosses :)

Developer(+1)
thank you. yeah i'll have to look into making the range more apparent, and see what i can do about those pesky crabs

Good game! I had a good thing going with my +8 Gaff, but I died on the fifth island boss.

Developer
thanks, yes the gaff at +8 hits hard for sure. that boss is tricky, you have to kill the units he spawns before you can finish him off
Submitted

This is so good! I do think the stun is a little too long  because you can stun lock the bosses pretty easily. Those crab guys are pretty tricky actually haha.

Developer
thank you, appreciate that. the stun is worth another look
