Very pretty game. I do feel the gameplay could have used some polishing, the jump arc seems unnecessarily narrow for the sizes of some attacks, the arena could have been bigger (either through a smaller scale of the boss/items/PC or by having some horizontal scrolling) and the PC could use some acceleration/deceleration to make movement more interesting and a bit less stiff.

Also some things that damage you look way too much like power-ups for my taste, but if that's on purpose I can respect a little bit of player-trolling :p.

Love the visuals, I really like the mechanic of grabbing ammo from the boss itself, super fun!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked the mechanic, it seems to have had a mixed reception from what I can tell

Submitted(+1)

Really good music and visuals, I had a lot more trouble with the 1st boss than the second just because the hurtbox is so wide and it was hard jumping between the projectiles. Overall very good for a short and sweet boss rush. I'd appreciate if you left our game a rating as well!

Developer

Thank you for playing!
I'll take a look at your game :)

While the hamster feels unreasonably hench for the screen and I would like some way to regain health (if there is, sorry!), the concept is very fun, the music is good and the art is very cute and polished! Overall a fun jam game! Fun take on the theme as well :)

Developer

Thanks for playing and for your comments! There's currently no way to regain health, but there will be in the future!

Really nice boss fight! The controls could feel a bit smoother, and it wasn't always immediately clear where the hitboxes were when avoiding attacks.

Still, the idea is really cool, and the art style is original and very eye-catching.

Developer

Thank you for playing, and for the feedback!
Just out of curiosity, which hitboxes did you have problems with? This has been mentioned a few times, so I might as well start taking notes of the details.

Nice one boss like, sadly I could not play a lot due to the controls being very bad on a qwertz keyboard as you need to strech your hand across the keyboard. Patterns were fun, not sure if the slamming hands get faster over time, but it did feel like I got smashed once way faster than every other time.

Graphics wise the game is lovely, has nice art and palette choice. Music and sfx are also well done!

Cool idea, great execution! Well done!

Developer

I am sorry for the control issues, the possibility of different keyboard configurations didn't cross my mind when setting the keys up, but will add more options in a future update.

Yes, there's a speed variation in Cream's second phase once he's under 50% health.

Thank you for playing!

really cool looking game with a fun story and characters. I found the play area a bit tight but I understand why you did it to add more detail to the sprites.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Yes! Should I have worked on this game by my own, I'd probably stick to my comfort zone and use smaller sprites, but for this game, we decided as a team to go with a more detailed route from the very beginning, which was a good time and a challenge on its own.

The kitties are powerful, as they should be. This is really cute and I had a good time :) I think the treasures that hurt you could be more clear, as I was very excited to pick up a sword. Lovely spritework and music :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! Happy to hear you had a good time!
Cookie and Cream are very powerful, especially when they're together!

Submitted(+1)

Cream wrecked me. I need to come back later for vengeance.

Great art altogether! All three animals are very cute! (I dont trust that maneki neko...)

The coin cap idea was great. I tried hoarding a lot of coins from the Cookie fight for the Cream fight and got skill-gapped lmao.

The hitboxes were a bit fuzzy, and sometimes items dropped way too fast (I think because the hand can be lower sometimes?).

Overall great entry :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll be fixing the way and rate items drop in a future update, especially in the Cream fight.

I got another commentary regarding the hitboxes, so I'll definitely be checking that as well.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game art and mechanics, Hope you can beat Cream, the maneki neko!

that hamster gotta hit the gym or something lol.
i really enjoyed the gamplay and the boss fight is intense in a good way

Developer(+2)

Good thing 'character fitness' is not a voting category, lol

In all seriousness, I'm glad you enjoyed the gameplay!

Very cute hamster :D

Developer

Thank you!

As some said, *very* difficult, but addictive.  I feel like the hit boxes for the hamster or the soundwaves are a little off?  Larger than it feels like they should be?  Or maybe it's just me.  But the "JUST ONE MORE TRY" feeling made it a lot of fun, even when dying.  The only sound effect issue I had was that hitting the cat and *getting* hit were the same sound.  Maybe a cute little "OW" squeak for the hamster getting hit. :D

Developer

Thank you for playing, and for share the game in your Stream.

And Thanks for the feedback, of course. I will triple check the collision masks just in case I missed something. I'm glad you enjoyed the game nonetheless!

I totally agree both enemies and the playable character should have different sound effects, that's already in the list of things to fix.

Very difficult game, but very addicting. Seems impossible at first, but eventually you get the hang of the jumps. Well done, good progression in difficulty, never saw the end though. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the difficulty.

So cute! It’s a lot of fun to play. I like the art, keep going!

Developer(+1)

thanks so much! we're glad you enjoyed it

I really enjoyed this, my only gripe is that the distribution of randomness felt really unfair at times.

On the second fight especially, if you’re unlucky you can get a long drought of no coins, and even worse, the damaging objects can fall in such a way that they’re impossible to avoid, leading to forced-failure unless you always drag the paws to the far-left and then far-right, which isn’t very intuitive (at least until you lose to a no-win scenario).

Other than that, though, awesome job. The character controller felt nice and tight to control, and the art was very cute.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing, and for the feedback!

I will definitely work on the item distribution, the 50/50 randomness sounded good to me in theory, but I get that a bad RNG can feel unfair.

Regarding the items in the fight against Cream, this is probably the least polished part of the game due to time constraints. I am thinking in a couple of ways I can fix the impossible-to-avoid situations, and of course I'll be trying to fix the existing bugs.

Nice art

Developer

Thank you!

This was really fun and I loved the design and artstyle! It was really hard to dodge the cats sound waves but I did eventually get it. Maybe adding some kind of tutorial to tell the player what the cat drops that helps them and what harms them would be helpful!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the design!

I'd like to find a way to be more clear about what objects damage you without having to explicitly tell the player. Thanks for the feedback!

Absolutely adorable and delightfully challenging! I haven't been able to get past Cookie more than once, but it's so cute, quick, and fun that I don't mind trying again and again. Smart design choice to have the coins fall slower than the attacks. The hitboxes feel fair, and I like that the hamster doesn't jump *that* high (just barely clearing the obstacles is scary in a good way). Your character designs are awesome--I especially love the hamster's lil face when throwing coins! Amazing work!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad you liked the game design decisions we made.

I was indecisive about giving the Hamster the angry brow all the time or just when attacking, I think I made the right call.

Submitted(+1)

Oh for sure you did haha--they're adorable in both modes and I think having a special *angry mode* makes them so so so much more expressive!

Submitted(+1)

very cute, i love the hamster sprite's little snuffly nose, lovely detail! the character controller was nice and responsive too, just what you want for this kind of boss fight game

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

I'm glad you liked the 1-pixel change to make the nose move :D

TL;DR I really enjoyed it !

Detailed thoughts :

At first I was a bit confused why I could pick up the coin but not the other objects, then i saw the coin counter and it made sense. I really struggled on Cookie, especially when the sound attacks are all close to the ground, it felt unavoidable and unfair. Then I persevered and I realized, like in good old gameboy games, that you definitely could avoid it if you saw it coming and moved exactly the right way !

Then came Cream, which was really fun ! My only small gripe is the items were sometimes so fast and grouped together that you were forced to take damage, but it happened quite rarely so that's okay. I liked the chaos ! The fact it sped up at mid-life took me by surprise (even though since Cookie also had a change at mid-life I could have seen it coming) and killed me a fair few times.

After many many tries, I finally managed to beat the game and it felt great !

I loved the sprites and the cuteness of the characters. The music was cool, engaging and not repetitive, which is a big plus when you're dying in a loop !

Great job, I had a great time ! :)

Developer (1 edit)

I appreciate you taking your time to share your detailed thoughts! And thank you for finishing the game!

When deciding on the boss fight mechanics, I wanted them to speak for themselves so the player could understand them by simply playing. I was afraid it would not be very clear and people would get frustrated. I'm glad that's not the case, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I totally agree the Cream fight can use some polish, I didn't have enough time to get it working as I would've wanted, and the way objects fall is definitely the first thing I'll fix whenever I decide to continue working on the game.
