How does your game meet GBJam's theme
The sacred moldy (old) cheese wheels (gold) of antiquity hold immense power inside them. Simply possessing one grants powers no ordinary mouse can fathom. Well, they've all been stolen. Everyone else was called, but they were busy or had better things to do... So it is up to you to find them all and bring them back into the hands of the good!

Cheese of Power's music? Best I've heard in this game jam by far!

Outside of that, the game itself is great and looks and feels like a Game Boy game that's really smooth to play. Really love the mechanic of shooting things to make cheese, as in collectables, springs and even platforms; the levels themselves were well designed around the mechanic, too!

I think the only thing I'd improve I have is maybe add some visual language in a few areas, like or showing the player to shoot the plants or when the boss is going to shoot.

Other than that, you guys did an excellent job and I would love to see this become a full game.

"Everybody knows the moon's made of cheese...."

Great game, the movement/animations felt smooth and satisfying, and I think the music may be the best I’ve heard in the entire jam so far.

I played this on stream today (recording here) in case you’re interested in watching a playthrough. I struggled a bit on the boss, but I had a good time with the game overall. Great job!

Best music of the jam!! Lov it, Great game

Loved it! Such fun, the cheese stuff gave me wallace and gromit vibes and the music/sfx and visuals were amazing! Felt totally immersed in the game's world :)

Love the animation of evil mouse guy (I assume, after finishing the game) waving at the title screen and the ending. Graphics were good, loved the music, and I appreciate not having a lengthy game over screen for every death. Second stage took some trial and error, but went through other stages quite quickly. I like that one level with the big pufferfish carrying you through the forest. Solid entry!

Lovely and small contained story and gameplay well done! Other than a few small “issues” that are not really issues the gameplay is immaculate. The falling down at the section end is misguided in a way that a screen ago you die if you fall down, except the last where the big moving platform leaves, some kind of arrow or indication there would signal much better that it is a safe drop. The boss also had some invsible(?) knockback effect, which confused me a bit. Nothing gamebreaking here, just small things that could elevate the experience even more! (would love coyote time as well)

Graphically the game is beautiful, sprites look lovely with the color scheme and I don’t really saw anything that would break any of the rules at all.

Music and sfx were great, banger track with a nice effects to spice up gameplay!

Awesome game, well done!

Amazing game! I loved the soundtrack and being able to turn things into cheese. I really liked the parallax background and all the artwork too. The only thing I can think of that would make it better is if the moon were cheese.

fantastic game, well done. great graphics and sound. great variation in levels and enough difficult to be challenging without being discouraging.

Submitted(+3)

So good! I had a lot of fun playing it. It's really challenging in some spots, it took me a long time until I got to the third flower (after the first spider). Keep going!

Man, a simple game but it does perfectly what it is meant to do!

The pixel art, music and sound effects are sooooo neat. The gameplay is fun and the controls are really responsive!

This one really deserves a little more work to get longer, very very fun.

Congrats!!!

This was incredibly fun to play. And the music is absolutely fantastic (probably the best soundtrack I've heard in the jam so far).

The visuals are great too, and the gun that turns things into cheese is ridiculously satisfying to use. The feedback feels great, and the way the palette is used makes the effect look even better.

Really loved this one. Amazing work!

I'm happy fun was had. I'm also grateful to have found a talented artist and musician. I feel the weapon could have been much juicier and the design exploration of turning stuff into cheese was barely explored. Both on me. Dedicating one (of only four!) colors to be used almost exclusively for cheese is a really fun idea. Although it stressed out our artist extra since she was already a bit overwhelmed with the low resolution and very limited color palette! Glad we got it to turn out decently nonetheless. Thanks for playing and the kind feedback.

A very smooth experience, and a great platformer! I found the bouncing cheese piles to be satisfying to jump on. The soundtrack too was amazing. Good job at that.

In the boss, i did find the untelegraphed push away from the platform a bit annoying, cost me a couple of attempts, but I did manage to beat it with full heath in the end.

The setting of the game feels nice and polished, and even in the afore mentioned boss, the design was good. I was scared there would be a second phase after the mouse started flying, glad that didn't happen. (If you make an after jam version, you could add that though, just sayin')

Developer

Much appreciated! The bouncy cheese was so sadly underutilized in designing challenges. Our composer is super talented, I wish we could have done better about finding ways to need more music tracks!

The push away and reviving the ground enemies could have used audio and visual cues. It's likely there has been much confusion and frustration around those parts of the game. I realized it during development but prioritized other work and kinda got tired of the project near the end.

The environment turned out great, but the enemy designs drew the short straw. It seemed fitting for the antagonist to escape. "I'll get you next time" sorta deal. Funny that the way we implemented it also makes it look like a second phase transition. Thanks for playing and commenting.

Reminded me of stinky cheese man children's book. Music is an earworm. It plays like an old school GB platformer too, so max points to GB soul. Turning enemies into cheese never stopped being funny lol.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words and playing our game. At first I was thinking what in the world is a stinky cheese man book for children? Then I looked it up and it seems eerily familiar. I feel I may have encountered it in my youth, or perhaps not. Memory is a fickle thing. But I'm certainly interested in it now!

Short and sweet, but still a fun time! This is definitely the quirkiest entry I've played so far, the idea of turning everything you shoot into cheese is hysterical (especially the boss at the end). Thanks for making your sidescroller unique!

Developer

Happy to hear fun was had. The idea started out as a sort of cheese collectathon, then turning stuff into cheese with a gun sounded cool, so maybe also a puzzle platformer of sorts... but then it became Mega Man it seems. The mechanics and challenge design didn't get the love I feel they deserved, but we got a decently complete feeling experience in exchange. Thanks for playing and commenting!

I can say that this is a gameboy game. Old school platforming and with a boss on the end with some challenge.

Great game. And nice mimic of the Classic Gameboy.
I would say that both the exits, and the boss blasting player off the leaf should be highlighted. As it got confusing

Developer

Thanks for playing and commenting!

The room exits were left a bit ambiguous, not a great design choice. The boss fight itself was quite a lot of work just to get it there. Some sort of audio-visual cues like a shockwave to denote being pushed off and even some kind of magical channeling effect to show the enemies being un-cheesified would have been nice bits of polish.

Submitted(+3)

Great polished game and overall experience! Only thing is the exits might need to be highlighted, as different levels work differently? Otherwise good job to the team!

Developer

Happy to hear it was enjoyable. Yeah, the room exits are ambiguous. I couldn't think of a solution I liked I suppose. And there was plenty of other work to do that felt more important. Still doesn't really excuse a poor design choice though! We appreciate the kind words.

Cute platformer and great music. Found it a little hard to guess where I was supposed to go because the exits weren't obvious to me at least.

Well done, nice entry!

Developer

Thanks for playing and the kind words. I must take the responsibility for any confusion on exits. I was probably a bit too stubborn on trying to "elegantly" design the rooms so the direction to go was subtle but fairly obvious. A big wooden arrow sign pointing the way could have been a quick and simple solution. Or something a bit more on theme like a crane elevator lifting crates up into the trees or whatever. I noticed some confusion with where to go, on the few playtests we were able to do, but put it low priority. Hopefully it didn't sour the experience too much.

Solid little platformer, perfect Jam size. The music was great.

There was a fifth color showing up on the spider webs, looks like it was probably a placeholder.

Lots of fun, great submission!!

Developer

Happy to have constrained myself to making it complete-able as it is a jam game. Although I feel some of the mechanics and room designs could have used more love and attention.

The line the spider is hanging from is drawn in code, but it should be the exact color as the black in the palette. I just played back through to check it out, it looks the same color to me. Maybe it's my eyes or my monitor. I also checked the code and it should be the same black.

Thanks for playing and glad to hear some fun was had!

Super cute!!
Really great music!  The track loops with a click, but that might be intentional?

Great submission, good job all !

Developer

Glad you liked it! We're lucky to have last year's #1 composer!! I don't feel we utilized him to his fullest potential, but we got a few awesome little tracks nonetheless.

Godot didn't want to loop music properly in the web build, so we had to do a hacky solution with a second copy of each track where some of the beginning was chopped out to start at the loop point... we wanted it to be a seamless loop. Oh well.
