How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Old gold is something precious and valuable, but with age... Maybe it's been forgotten and lft to rot. It reminded me of an old shrine I'd seen while traveling - valuable, but forgotten. So I made this game about a forgotten shrine that keeps pulling you back, and you can try to improve it, clean it up until it shines like new, so everyone can see the value again.

I really loved the exploration and mystery. I played all the way to the end. Very nice game!
Loved playing this! I got stuck though and couldn't figure out how to continue after offering the sake, the chips, and the clover. Probably just a me issue, but I would love to know how to continue! Great work!
Thanks for playing! There’s one more offering to get, but I didn’t quite add enough hints for it. Try investigating the cones ;3
really nice vibe! i feel like i missed something even after offering all four items and getting to the end. was there any other place to do research than the library? very sweet game anyway, hope you'll add music in an update :)
Thanks for playing it! I hope to add music in an update afterwards. And there wasn’t anything beyond the four offerings and getting to the end. I’d had a long, more puzzle-focused idea originally, but had to scrap quite a bit of it for time, so there are several red herrings accidentally left. I plan to update it with a bit more finish on those, too =3
Really strong Game Boy Soul here. I liked wandering around, finding clues, and figuring out what to bring back to the shrine.
The art carries it though, especially the dithering and detail work. Music or SFX would add a lot. Very strong jam entry.
Thank you! I definitely plan to add music/SFX after the jam. I also have plans to add some more zones and fix up the library/bookstore to make the thing both more puzzle-y and a little bit smoother for some of the pieces.
Nice game, Reakain! I really liked the pixel art, really reminded me of the game boy games!
I also like the way you got the theme and got into this game idea, really creative.
Congrats!!
Thank you for playing! Glad the pixel art seemed to come across well =D
Such a fun little adventure that I really enjoyed taking! Like someone else said, I think music or small SFX for findings could be really helpful! Also, maybe adding a little internal monologue prompt to offer things to the shrine once you find them since I felt like I needed to hoard the items for some reason. Super impressive game though! Thanks for making it and submitting it!
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback! I definitely plan to add music/SFX, and I really appreciate the idea for the internal monologue prompts! I want to go back through and smooth out some of the dialogue/options pieces, so the info on prompts is helpful =D
The art and gameplay both capture the Game Boy feel really well, and I enjoyed that a lot.
I think some background music would make the experience even stronger and give the game a bit more energy, but the overall style is already very convincing
Thank you! Yeah, I plan to add some music/SFX after the jam. A buddy was going to join me as a composer, but he got mono, and my own music was…. uh…. Not the right energy for it hahahaha
The art really fit the Gameboy! I also love that you only can walk over the street on the white stripes, safty first!
Hehe, thanks for playing! Yeah, I used the old “here’s a cross walk!” to try and visually signal walls and pathing. I wanted to add in some cars/NPCs for life, but kinda decided those were extra, and I’ve already made so many gameboy car sprites…. I didn’t want to make more for the jam hahahaha

Odd quirky little game. Played on Game Boy till the ending.
Sadly no music, think that would have made the game be
More enjoyable to play since it feels like a visual/artsy game.
I counted 5 colors used in some scenes 😅 dont know if thatWas intended for the jam.
(This happened on the game boy build only)
art looked nice though.
Thanks for playing! Yeah, my buddy who was going to do music ended up getting mono, and my own sound attempts made it worse rather than better, sadly hahahah
I don't know how you counted 5 colors though. It's a gb rom so it's definitely only 4, and I can also guarantee that from all of my art files. I'm gonna just assume that means I did a good job with dithering and details to make it come across as being more colors than exists.
I see, hope you get a chance to add music at a later stage then :)
It seems to be 5 colors on the game boy build only. This have been an issue on other games I have played as well for some reason.
Yeee, I plan to add music after the rating period, and add in features and elements I had to cut for time =3
Huh, are you using an original gameboy to play or a gameboy color? Cause for an original gameboy, 5 colors just.... isn't actually physically possible, to the best of my knowledge.
Game boy advance, and yeah i had this on another game as well. They thought it might be that the console auto assigns colors on its own 🤔 Im not sure myself how it happens
Oh, that’s actually fascinating! Huh, now I’m gonna have to go test what my GBA does with my GB game carts… I know different consoles would add different “flare” and the GBA added the, like “widescreen” option, but I’m curious about what else it does. Anyway, thanks for the info!
Fascinating and scary haha ^^" We built for the GB as well and played on the GBA but it
seem to be color accurate so I have no Idea of why or how it decides to change colors.
Anyway, good luck in the jam :)
Nice little concept, maybe need some more hints.
Graphics really have the gameboy soul!
Thanks! The jam version has a bunch of not great red herrings too, since I ended up needing to cut a bunch of things to have something "complete" in time.
I wasn't sure if I got sent back to the shrine cos I did something wrong but I did manage to finish it eventually, nice concept!
I'd had plans to make it more puzzle-y, so the getting pulled back to the shrine is intentional (though I'd run out of time for making things flow a smoother/clearer) Thanks for playing!
I'm not sure where to go! I bought the sake and the snack and offered it to the shrine, then went back to the library to browse for the local history but still can't proceed ;; lemme know what needs to be done because I want to finish it! :D very neat little game!
Hahah, yeah, some of my sign posting needed more adjustment, sorry about that! The library ended up not being that relevant, but there's two more things you want to interact with on the same screen as the tree. Let me know if you're still stuck!
Cute game, with a fun interpretation of the theme! I got stuck after looking in the library though, I didn't understand what they meant with "look somewhere else"..
Sorry about that! The library was part of planning before I had to cut down the scope. You want to try interacting with things outside the library, if that helps!
Probably the most gameboy game I've played so far! Nice little experience.
Thanks for playing! Hopefully I can make it more puzzle-y after the jam rating period ends.
i looooooooove the vibe of the game sm i just wish there was any audio at all to go with it but otherwise pretty damn cool style
Ahaha, thaaaanks! I had a composer that was originally gonna join me in working on this, but he got mono, and my own music attempts were.... Not so great.
