How does your game meet GBJam's theme
In the very first scene of the 2007 TV show, Mad Men, Don Draper sits alone at the bar. He smokes a Lucky Strike cigarette, the box displayed on the table like an advertisement. One of the waitstaff approaches his table and lights his cigarette for him. Seizing the opportunity, Don asks him what cigarettes he smokes.
"Old Gold," the man replies.
Don Draper asks why, and the man tells him that they were the brand given out as rations to soldiers in World War 2. Don asks follow ups, pitches hypotheticals, and tries to get to the bottom of why people do what they do. Over the course of 7 seasons and 8 years, Don will realize that people are not rational; that he is not rational. That despite trying to control his destiny and sell others on a new one, everyone is subject to societal patterns and habits and addictions.
The bartender smokes Old Gold for reasons beyond his own ken.
I made Old Gold cigarettes a mechanical staple of my game for the same reasons.

This is a really neat idea, the shader is great and I like finding a 3D game in a GameBoy jam. I did not play much, because I got too frustrated trying to control the character, and in addition to the character being difficult to control, I could not find the packages or did not know where to find them. But there's a neat idea here.
There's a lot of good this submission brings to the table. The game oozes personality and a significant level of polish given the short time span allotted. Ernest is well-designed and his love for cigarettes is unrivaled. Pogo'ing around is in general very fun to do once you learn how to "momentum toggle" by switching between the game's pogo and walk modes. Some further refinements to help players better steer themselves mid-flight would be helpful, but the core gameplay loop is foundationally solid. In truth, the game beyond adhering to the jam rules doesn't really capture gameboy soul, but this is the only blemish in an otherwise quality entry.
Came here because of your comment on 'I FOUND IT', and I'm really glad I did. This game is rad, man! The visuals impressed me from the get-go. I love the stylized textbox, the color palette, the cigarette smoke in the distance, all that good shit. I never had trouble reading the environment. The sound is great. Love the music, and especially how it's timed with the pogo stick landing. I'm a sucker for that sort of thing. This game is oozing with charm. The gameplay felt rough at first, but once I got the hang of it, it became very satisfying. I could see this being super fun to master. I loved your interpretation of the theme lol. The only complaint I have is that I wish there was an option to replay the tutorial.
Thanks so much for playing and for the kind words! Technically, you can open the game in an incognito browser to replay the tutorial, but obviously that's not ideal.
quite a charmer of a game. I found it tough to pogo around, but the fact that I had to pogo around at was hilarious. Visually very impressive game too, and the experience was very polished, great job with this one!
After delivering the first package and being told to do more, I thought "this map is too small"... I was not prepared.
This was a lot of fun. Good balance of weird and fun controls. Going full 3D in low-res 4-color is also bold (but well executed).
Ernest is a legend lol. The pogo balancing is tough but weirdly hard to put down
I like the fast paced platforming in this! ALso i rlly liked the pogo mechanic. Great job!
Fun game and concept. I found the pogoing a little hard to control, but it was fun to fly across the map when I was speeding up.
I'm pretty sure a Game Boy would be blown away, but nice idea and great visual adaptation to make it look like a pixel-art game!
I spent a lot of time just pogo-ing around, the controls are super fun and satisfying. I laughed multiple times. Good job :)
LoL I almost made a cigar-based game too!
The graphics, including the palette choice, are sooo nice! The lil music on the background is cool too!
I find it kinda hard to control the frog but it was a nice game xD
Congrats!!!
Really original idea. The pogo stick mechanic makes it feel very different from most of the other games in the jam, and the 3D presentation helps it stand out even more.
The visuals are nice, the soundtrack works well, and overall it was fun to try something this different.
this is a great game and great fun. the style is superb. the movement feels very good. definitely can be frustrating for old people like myself but once i got the hang of it and understood the quirks for ledges and turning and stuff, it is very rewarding. i enjoyed it very much during my corporately sponsored game jam breaks.
also, chris had mentioned the cigarette thing to me when the theme was revealed but i never watched mad men so we went with something else. guess i'll have to watch it. :P
"Old Gold" just genuinely makes me think of the cigarette brand. I thought of a few other ideas, but ultimately decided, "Well, at least no one else will make their game about cigarettes. Probably."
This is the craziest game I've played in this jam ! Nice work on the 3D shader :) I was addicted to the game like ernest is addicted to smoke.
Hilarious game, I love the quirky nicotine-addicted frog. The music bangs and the art is awesome. It runs really smoothly - ambitious to make a 3D game for a jam rendered in game jam style. Had some minor issues around readability of weight allocation but had a lot of fun with this one.
Muito Bom
Really good game. But man, I'm so bad with the pogo hahaha, maybe I would do better with a controller haha.
I didn't get controller working on web, but locally I've played with a controller, and honestly it was way harder. So not getting it to work was a blessing in disguise really. Thanks for playing!
This game really hooked me. I spent a long time trying to get used to the controls but never managed to master the technique of hopping up onto buildings, so I’d just hop off the pogo stick and the toad would walk through the air on its own to reach the ledge.
The story and the character are also really funny.
Thanks for the kind words! And that's kind of how you're supposed to play. Obviously, ideally you nail every jump and never slam into a wall and make it all the way to the top cleanly. But once you do mess up, the best course is to jump higher than the wall in front of you, get off the pogo, walk forward, and then get back on your pogo to maintain jump height and scale up buildings. Maybe disappointingly, you're playing it right!
I think Ernest is my new favorite frog, what a chill frog! Funny dialogue and crazy controls, I couldn't beat it, but I still think it was awesome! Good job :)
I liked the balancing mechanic and how it affects gameplay—I think that’s why "challenging" fits it so well (I only managed to make $69 on deliveries). It’s a really good game, though I do feel it loses the Game Boy theme a bit. Pepe would be proud, keep up the good work.
