How does your game meet GBJam's theme
The game treats “old gold” as both treasure and curse. You board a ship that looks empty but still runs on the greed of the dead.

This game is very good, but I have trouble with that chest to open at the later stage with the bombs blasted and limited to two coins. Also, I think the game needs to improve to add coin items go up in the coin count for trapping more skeletons to trap them. I accidently wasted some coins in the previous stages.

I seem to be unable to interact with this chest.

That was a neat game! The deaths were surprisingly grisly [positive]. Good work; congratulations on the submission! 🎉

Developer(+1)

you need to kill the skeleton in order to open that chest, its really nice hearing all the things that the game does well as well as what needed to be polished.

Oh! I see what happened. I kept killing the skeleton with the bomb, which doesn't seem to count. When I trapped them in the pits, I was able to reach the end of the game. It was nice getting to outwit the captain! 💚

nice game, the pirate is too quick though i almost got jumpscared

An okay game. Neat ideas and it does show something new as you progress which is good. But not a lot of polish. I've encountered a fair few bugs (such as locking 2 skeletons just requiring one box being moved between rooms or bombing a skeleton instead of making them fall stopping the puzzle) and of course some of the softlocks others experienced. Some of the mechanics feel unclear too, like how far a coin will pull in enemies or not explaining the parrot picks up coins you place. The puzzles themselves are a bit simple, while it is fun to see new mechanics I'd have liked some deeper brain busters.

But overall nice!

Developer

thanks for the feedback!

The game has cool puzzle ideas and tools to solve those puzzles, that said sadly the fact that coins cannot be pickup or earned, will leave you eventually with a softlock and not letting the player progress. Other than this big oversight the game itself was fun to play.

Graphics wise everything we had is okay, I kinda wish breakable walls and rotten boards would be more clear as the challange of a puzzle should not come from me having distinguish two tiles by 8 pixels, but from the mechanics overlapping in the game. It is not a big problem, but something to consider for a future game.

Music and sfx were okay and thank you for the sliders, I do still feel that they are not balanced around each other, minimum volume sfx is still louder than max volume music. Overall not bad, just something to consider yet again for next time.

The ideas here are great, nothing really bad except the softlocks, a little bit more tuning and you have a cool game on your hands! Well done!

Such a great game, I had a lot of fun playing it! I also cheated and read that coins are a limited resource ;) You really should make that clear so it's less frustrating for some players.

thats what i told them(other team members) they said no :sob:

Interesting lure mechanics with a coins. Good job

There are a lot of levels to try, it was fun for the most part :D

I got stuck at the level where I had to blast a path with 2 skeletons in it, I ran out of coins, and I couldn’t even interact with the chest

There’s no way to pick up coins once I place them, and when I pressed START and chose Restart, the game bugged, so yea, that’s it

I think it could've been more clear that the coins were such a limited resource, but this was quite fun before I ran out! I really liked the parrot mechanic, it'd be interesting to see some more stuff with that, like being able to carry bombs across gaps or something.

I liked the lure mechanic.. and I read some other comments so I knew that coins were a limited resource, so I didn't run out.  In fact, I did finish the game, although not without many, many deaths at the hands of the captains.

But I *really* liked the parrot.  I wished every level had a parrot. :D

Didn't really care for the music, but I see you can turn it down or even off.

The lure mechanic was really cool.  I made it as far as I could before I ran out of coins.  Made a lot of accidental button clicks early and wasted a bunch of coins.

Really fun game, and the visuals gave me a strong classic Game Boy feeling. Nicely done!

One suggestion: it would be great to have a way to recover the coins after a mistake, or at least restart only the current section instead of having to repeat everything.

Cool game! I like the idea of luring enemies with coins. Unfortunately I could also not reach the end as I eventually ran out of coins at "The Spiral"

A lot of fun and great music and puzzles!

This is a lot of fun, some really great puzzle mechanics. I did have the same issue another comment mentioned, when I was figuring out the game at the beginning I put down a lot of unecessary coins and then got softlocked later on. But I was able to reach the end on a second go :)

A great game! I like the gameplay tho the enemy AI is somewhat dumb.
