The Biggest Challenge
Keeping everything feel like one game. The art came from image generation in separate batches — characters, title scene, logo, fan, farmer animations, store art — and each batch drifted a little in style, scale and lighting. The breakthrough was treating the AI like a small team with a strict brief: every asset request came with exact canvas sizes, registration points and a palette, and every delivery was checked in the actual game before it was accepted. The same loop worked for design: two live playtesters said they didn’t understand the goal, and within an hour the title screen had a slogan, the how-to-play card had a goal line, and weather got explained in the HUD. AI also ran hundreds of simulated seasons to tune beetles, tension and rival weights, and caught a browser memory leak that would have crashed the tab after 30 seconds.

AI Tools Used
GPT-6 Astra — first playable version, artwork and animation assets, UI refinement, itch.io page graphics, build packaging. Claude (Anthropic) — game code and fixes after the first version, QA and browser playtesting, balance simulations, in-game UI, audio looping, screenshots/GIFs and store page text. Suno — music.

Areas Where AI Was Used
Code (first version by GPT-6 Astra, then fixes, features and balance by Claude in Godot / GDScript), QA and balance (simulated seasons), UI, images and animation (characters, title scene, logo, farmer and fan animations, store page art), music (Suno tracks, looped and mixed with AI help), store page text and media. Fonts are free human-made fonts (Kaiju Monster, Barlow, Gochi Hand).

I really like this. I love this laid-back vibe✨

It's a game you can enjoy at a leisurely pace, taking your time.

The graphics are also very well done. I don't know how to put it, but it felt like the perfect game for the phrase, “Wouldn't it be nice to have a day like this?”

Thank you for the wonderful experience! I'll play it again!! 😃

The laid-back music and relaxed gameplay make it easy to unwind, and growing pumpkins is simple yet fun. It’s such a lovely game.

This was super fun! As you can see in the screenshot, I somehow managed to grab 1st place!

My strategy was rotating water, fertilizer, fans, and rutabagas, then fine-tuning from there. Whenever micro-cracks appeared, I'd stop using GROW and repeat that cycle.

The artwork is fantastic—the pumpkin, characters, and overall world-building feel so cohesive and well-integrated. It's really well done!

If I had to suggest a few improvements:

  • Adding more hazards besides just insects could be cool—maybe something like weather changes (though I might have missed it if it was already there!).
  • There were around 6 stages, but it might actually work better if it were a bit shorter. If the core hook is "growth," finding the best way to make players feel that growth is key. For me, seeing the pumpkin literally get massive was the most charming part—heavy = huge is super easy to grasp.
  • In that sense, dynamically changing the camera work could be awesome! Start zoomed-in from above while it's small, then as it grows, pull the camera back or shift angles to emphasize its size. Honestly, for the final stage, it could be ridiculously huge—so big that it doesn't even fit in the center of the frame! Pushing that visual scale to the absolute extreme would feel amazing.

Awesome game!

Congrats on first place! 🏆 Your strategy is exactly the loop I was aiming for - rotating resources and pausing GROW on micro-cracks is the intended rhythm.

On hazards: there is weather in the game, so if you didn’t spot it, that’s a readability problem on my end. Good to know.

And the camera suggestion is a great call - starting tight and pulling back until the pumpkin doesn’t fit the frame would sell the growth far better than extra stages. Thanks for the detailed feedback!

Very intuitive, didn't even really need the tutorials.  Also very well done!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! That’s especially good to hear - early playtesters didn’t understand the goal at all, so the tutorial bits were a last-minute patch. Glad it reads clearly now!

I love growing things. You should introduce squash bugs as a villain in your game!

Developer

Thanks! Turning them into proper villains rather than just a hazard is a great idea — a squash bug with a personal vendetta against your pumpkin. Noted!

Loved this one. The gameplay is very addictive. Had to play till I got 1st place (2nd through ;) ). Well put together and everything looks and sounds good. Bravo!

Developer

Thank you! Replaying until you hit first place is the best compliment a game like this can get — that’s exactly the “one more run” feeling I was hoping for. Congrats on the win!

The visuals are beautiful and feel so cohesive! The whole screen just makes me want to reach out and touch it. That’s something I’m aiming for in my own games too. Really lovely work!

Developer

Thank you!
That’s exactly what I was going for - even though the art is cartoony 2D, I wanted the pumpkin to feel alive and physical, like it has real weight to it. Lovely to hear that it came across, especially from someone chasing the same feeling!

Nice design. I think the first level could have been easier. But I'm a pretty bad player to begin with.

Developer

Thanks! Fair point about the first level - that’s on my tuning. Noted!

Your design is top-notch in this game. Everything is pleasant to look and feels good/responsive. Very nice work!

Developer

Thank you! Keeping everything visually consistent was the single hardest part of this project, so hearing that it reads as cohesive is a real relief. And the “responsive” bit especially — that’s the invisible work nobody usually notices. Really enjoyed your danmaku too!

The assets are really well made! I like how they were cohesive which at times is the hardest part. Gameplay loop was fun. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! You're absolutely right that cohesion is the hard part — the art came in separate batches and every one of them drifted a little in style and scale, so a lot of the work was just dragging them back in line. Thanks for playing!

Love the design and the core loop! Quite entertaining!

The pumpkin grew to be huge!

I really like the cohesive illustration design.

The boy is cute, too!

I lost to Grandpa, but I had a lot of fun.

Thank you! <3
