Hi! I played your game and recorded it 🎃
I didn't know a word puzzle could be so interesting for me, but it really was. It's one of the funniest games of the jam for me. The idea is original: a wizard invited strange letters into the words, and you must find them.
The art is awesome, and the music is super. I like that the sound tells you when you are right or wrong. The little story with the Mysterious Mage is cool too. I played easy, then medium, then the hardest level, and I finished all of them! Some words were really hard for me: "falpy"... it was "fly" 😄 And "notch, notch, notch"... it was "note" 😅
A big plus: you can skip the dialogue when you already know it. Very cool and interesting. Good luck with your game, and happy Halloween!
🎬 I recorded my play!
▶ Watch: Is That The Dictionary?, let's play (17 min)
Thank you for this game! 🎃
I did watch it!! Love your gameplay and your guessing technics in some words XD
Thanks for recording, and the CHARAZARD got me XD
Yeah some words overlap, but I am thankful that you enjoyed it.
Thanks for playing and thanks for this lovely review.
I would like to add the review to the game page if possible, after the jam of course.
Interesting. Loved the way it looks. I feel like it could be enhanced with some kind of penalty for guessing wrong, and/or maybe a clue about what the correct word was.
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for playing!!
Lots of fun! Not often will I play though all the difficulties. Great game, lots of fun!
Thanks for playing!!
I liked it, especially the overall art style.
My only point is what other have said how some words have multiple solutions but only one is valid.
Thank for your feedback and thanks for playing!!
Good job. The letters are uninvited, neat take.
Thanks for playing!!
nice game, and fun educational game concept to.
Might be one for mobile.
Wrap in some teaching about how English words work, could expand and grow on it loads.
Proud to say I found all the words :)
Glad you did have fun!!
Thanks for playing and thanks for the suggestions!!
Nice game! To be honest, I expected a little bit different type of game when I saw the intro with the mage, but I had a lot of fun and played through the hard mode :D
I think for the long term motivation there should be more diversity in the gameplay. But I saw in the comments, that you tried a few things that didnt work out. It was fun to play, so your design choices were probably good :)
Yeah I tried many gameplay I did go with more fun relaxing one.
Thanks for playing and thanks for the suggestions!!
Very nice unique concept, a couple words that showed up could have had multiple solutions though but only accepted one, other than that, it was a fun short game. Maybe a lives system could be a good addition if you took it further
Thanks for playing and thanks for the suggestions!!
Cool game, very well presented, and good music. Maybe a little more peril would be good, but I can see from other comments that you tried it and rolled back, which is very sage. I had to with mine too, or I'd have just got comments of frustration
Thanks for playing!!
Yes, some decisions have to be made, even if its not a cool one.
This:
"I don't understand", and then
"No time for questions!"
Reminds:
Fun Lois and Peter's dialogs from the Family guy.
I liked you used words which are "undestandable common words" - not like science or dictionary words. Cool game.
There occurred letters for words which could be used for several word combos. I guess there could be an item that being revealed after get Word letters correct, so there could not be "several answers" for the Word/item.
Also font variations would be great expansion for the game; elven instances/books could use elven fonts, dwarven dwarf fonts, undead dark fonts, and so on. Also words/items could be related to according (faction) themes.
I notice that while there is wardom battleground background music and also "no time for questions" in hurry, in actual game there are no "hurry" at all. This concept could work for slow puzzle game or action game - not sure which this is suppose to be, but based to lore should be an action game.
Thanks for playing!! And thanks for the suggestions!!
I was planning for more intense, rime based game, but when I tested it with time and hearts, it was really hard even on a simple words XD (and for everyone who tested it), so I took the relaxing way to play it.
I will keep your suggestions in mind, as the factions and items (which can help) can look cool too.
I noticed the overlapping words, but couldn't fixed it in time before submitting.
Thanks again!!
Fun game, i'm not a native english speaker so it felt more challenging, great work, loved the art style.
Thanks for trying to play the game, much appreciated!!
Simple Game but this is what i really want from a GameJam!
Thanks for playing!!
And you are right about the GameJam.
Simple short game - but so cool implementation!
The idea, music, arts, sounds, fonts - I loved them all! Nice work
Thanks for playing!!
That's what the Jam for - cool, unique and sometimes simple ideas.
Jams and indie devs are the only reason we are not just drown in series of alike service/shooter/etc games big companies love to fed to us (you know what games I mean)
Simple mechanic for a compelling game! I really had fun!
Glad you like it!!
Thanks for playing!!
Excellent entry, it's a simple game mechanic but it felt fun, the art and music was great, you even had story elements, I did the first 2 difficulties, maybe adding a leaderboard would be nice, that keeps a timer or something.
Good job!
Thanks for Playing and thanks for the feedback!!
I was thinking of the leaderboard, but I choice not to as my submission was late at night.
I wish I could vote for you twice. Such a well done game. Thank you so much for the fun play
I did the easy and medium levels.
What engine or framework did you use. Where did the graphics come from because they are excellent.
Thank for playing!!
Godot 3 (for web HTML5 export), the graphics were premade from a bundle IDK which, and of course some tweaks to match the Jam)
Interesting idea. well done with the storytelling interface.
The game seems to expect specific words which makes it a bit frustrating - I thought "LINTE" was "LINT", but apparently it's "LINE". "PUFSFH" I thought was "PUFF". "DPRCY" I though was "PRY". etc.
Yeah! some words can be tricky and can have multiple solutions.
Thank for the feedback and thanks for playing!!
awesome concept! had lots of fun. :)
Thanks for playing!!
Hey, well done on this, great little jam idea. I really appreciated the different fonts and the intro build up was done really well with the sounds and still images partly animated - nice attention to detail.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!!
I like the humour in the dialog and love a word game. Art looked cool too. I did have some issue with screen size but it didn't affect game play.
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!!
