This dude and Potoleaf would be good friends, I can tell 🙂‍↕️

Ok more seriously, really enjoyed the game, it has a great great vibe (musics reminded me of pajama sam, especialy the main menu one, love it!) and the gameplay loop is superbly executed, not too easy, not to hard, and super playful! I loved cooking mama as a child and I’m happy I got to feel how I felt playing it again! Your game made me laugh multiple times, and I appreciate the conclusion!

Developer(+1)

I can totally picture Potoleaf hanging out in the kitchen with him! Though he'd better watch out for his tail! XD The Pajama Sam comparison wasn't one I expected, but I love it lol. Cooking Mama was a big inspiration for us, so hearing that it brought back some of those childhood memories is such a cool compliment! And it's reassuring to hear the difficulty felt just right, since that was something I wasn't entirely sure about. Happy you enjoyed the ending too! Thanks for such a thoughtful comment!

Great game! Not just the art, but the mechanics you’ve included are so varied, too! I didn’t even realize I’d finished cooking hahaha

Developer

Haha, guess you really got into the cooking if you didn't even notice you'd finished! XD We wanted each part of the recipe to feel a little different, so it's nice to hear you enjoyed the variety. And I'll be sure to pass the art compliment along to my wife! Thanks for checking it out!

Submitted(+1)

Overall well polished and fun game. I was geunuinly suprised at the introduction of the tail. Great job!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Lol, the tail definitely has a mind of its own. It's fun hearing how many people it managed to catch off guard. And the compliment on the polish means a lot, considering how chaotic those last few days of development were!

Submitted(+1)

The cooking minigame is decent! Personally I find the premise to be pretty interesting, and I like how the main character’s gradual transformation to werewolf is drawn. I kinda didn’t figure out the mouse precision mechanic in the cutting parts at the start, personally I think some kind of brief explanation for that might be nice.

Developer

Appreciate the feedback! Yeah, I can see how the cutting mechanics might take a little getting used to, especially at the beginning. A bit more guidance there probably would've helped. My wife did all the art and animations, so I'll be sure to pass along the compliment about the transformation! Thanks for giving our game a try!

Submitted(+1)

This was lowkey such a fun experience! I haven't really been exposed to these types of games (haven't tried cooking mama) but man this was so fun to try out! Love the art and can't believe you guys managed to make all of this in time (albeit cutting close with the deadline [6 mins before due] XD), I had a blast!!!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, those last 6 minutes were probably the most stressful part of the whole jam, and I was already going on nearly 36 hours without sleep at that point! XD We really took that deadline down to the wire lol. It's cool that this was your first experience with this kind of cooking game and that you had so much fun with it! My wife will love hearing what you thought of the art too. Really appreciate the kind words

Submitted(+1)

Really liked the cutting mini games and the slow transformation :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We had a lot of fun finding ways to make the transformation gradually change how you play, not just how the character looks. Happy to hear you enjoyed the cutting minigames too!

It's like cooking mama but werewolf, so funny you gotta dodge your own tail lmao

Developer(+1)

Cooking Mama but werewolf pretty much sums it up! lol. As if cooking wasn't hard enough, now you've gotta deal with your own tail getting in the way, haha. Thanks for checking it out!

Submitted(+1)

It was so fun when I realice that the gut was turning into a werewolf lol
I loved the changing shapes to follow in the minigame, the tail part added variety so I also liked! Good game, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Lol, we were hoping the transformation would catch people by surprise! It was fun coming up with the different cutting patterns and then having the tail come along to make things even more chaotic, haha. Cool to hear you enjoyed the variety in the minigames. Appreciate you checking it out!

Oh man WHY am I so bad at drawing lines with my mouse!

There's a ton to love about this game! Super super charming, great implementation of the theme and limitation, and the gameplay was really fun. Some really funny moments like the tail, the sniffing out ingredients, and really clever mechanics. Actually, there were a surprising amount of mechanics for a 2 week jam, well done! Tons of little details too, like the phases of the moon representing success level on the cooking.

I do wish more people would use composers and sound designers from the discord, there are tons of folks looking for teams to join! I do think the music you picked fit your game really well, though. One other thing about the audio, the "success" sound effects when chopping didn't seem to relate to how good you actually did at the chopping. I think having a "win" sound for a perfect cut, and a "fail" sound for a bad cut could be a really nice touch that gives the player some more feedback about how they're doing.

This game was mostly well polished, but a few minor things like font choice being hard to read against the backdrop of the art, and a typo here and there (cut wolfsbane STEAMS instead of STEMS, for example).

Overall I was pleasantly surprised with this one! Great game and it was a delight to get to play it!

Developer

Those mouse paths can definitely put up a fight, lol! Thanks for such a thoughtful comment, and for noticing the little details like the moon phases.

You're absolutely right about the audio feedback. Having different sounds based on performance was actually part of the plan, but scope creep inevitably got the best of me lol. I ended up building something that felt like 20-30% of the game in a sleep-deprived 36-hour sprint near the deadline, so things like cleaning up the UI, finding and adding those extra sounds, and proofreading kind of fell through the cracks. I honestly thought I had the different cutting sounds in there until you mentioned it haha. Having a dedicated sound person probably would've helped a lot, like you said!

And yeah, the font readability was another thing I wish I'd gotten around to improving. As for "STEAMS" instead of "STEMS"... oof, that one hurts lol. Can't believe I missed that!

Really appreciate you taking time to share all this. It's helpful hearing what worked and what could've used another pass, and it means a lot that you enjoyed the game despite those rough edges!

Submitted(+1)

Totally understand about not getting things in before the deadline, absolutely happened to us too. In your case everything was super minor and didn't detract from the experience of playing your game, which was a really good time!

Submitted(+1)

So fun! it was funny when he turned into a werewolf and started cutting with his nails. love the game mechanics too!

Developer(+1)

Who needs a knife when you've got claws like those! :P That was one our favorite little surprises to throw in as the transoformation progressed. Great to hear you had fun with the mechanics too! Thanks for checking out our game!

Submitted(+1)

I love the salt and pepper shakers, I want those irl. The tail swiping at the ingredients is super funny. This was an enjoyable cooking game and the theme and limitation are on point.

Developer(+1)

I actually told my wife we need to make those salt and pepper shakers irl, lol. You're not alone in wanting a set! And that tail has been causing all sorts of trouble in the kitchen, lol. Happy to hear you enjoyed the game and how we worked the theme and limitation into it. Appreciate the kind words!

Submitted(+1)

Oooo I love all of the cooking mechanics you both made for this! Such a clever idea for the cutting/stirring mechanic and I like how you're scored on how well you do! OMG the claw hand XD and him slowly turning into a werewolf - agree with others loveeee this choice for limitation! Such a fun, cute game - you both did such a great job!

Developer(+1)

Haha, the claw reveal seems to be catching quite a few people off guard! XD It's awesome that you enjoyed the cutting/stirring too. Getting those to feel right was quite the challenge, so hearing that they were fun is really rewarding. And it's great to hear that the transformations worked well with the limitation. Really appreciate all the love for our little game!

Submitted(+1)

What a cozy game, and I love the idea of your character turning into a werewolf for the limitation! Very cute artstyle and feels super polished. Had fun playing.

Developer

Thanks! It was fun finding ways to tie the werewolf transformation into the limitation and have it mess with the cooking along the way haha. My wife will be happy to hear you liked the art too! And hearing that the game felt polished is quite the compliment for a jam game. Appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

Wonderfully executed mechanics! There were so many small touches that just made everything that much better :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It's awesome to hear that those little touches made a difference! We wanted the game to have plenty of surprises along the way, so it's great to hear they added to the experience!

Submitted(+1)

UHM. Excuse me but.. WHAT IS THAT?! I searched H2OH and got "Mix-and-Match Swimwear & Bikinis"

.·°՞(≧ᗜ≦)՞°·.

This is really awesome! I really had fun playing it. As a person who enjoys cooking, this game is very comfy and funny to me. The mechanic reminds me of those 2000s mazes which give you a jumpscare when you hit the walls. Thank goodness you didn't add jumpscares ദ്ദി˙∇˙)ว

I also love how the character slowly changes into a werewolf and his transformation is part of the game mechanic. And the sniffing! That is so clever! Overall, one of the best games I have played in the game jam so far!

Well done, both of you!

Developer(+1)

I just want to make it clear that we are in no way, shape, or form affiliated with H2OH Colours: Mix-and-Match Swimwear & Bikinis. However, if you click the link below, you can get 50% off your next purchase...lol jk XD

Lol, I had to look up H2OH myself after reading this XD. The cup actually says "H2 Oh No!", a little pun my wife came up with, but now I can't unsee the swimwear connection haha.

And oh man, those old maze jumpscare games, I remember those! Don't worry, we weren't planning on traumatizing anyone quite like that lol. We had a lot of fun coming up with ways to make the transformation part of the gameplay instead of just a visual change, so it's really great that you appreciated that! Being called one of your favorites from the jam really means a lot to us. Thanks so much for the lovely comment!

Submitted (1 edit)

OH! H2 OH NO! Hahaha that is a good pun!

My brain just went Chemistry mode and thought: "Huh? H2O and H then (No)bellium. Is this a Chemistry joke? So when I searched it and it showed bikinis, I was even more confused ( ≧ᗜ≦)

Part of the reason I join game jams is to meet people who show their passion and creativity in game development through the games they make. Sure, there are well-polished games out there, but I appreciate the developers that are trying to express themselves through their games. You and your wife are definitely fun people based on this game! I hope you continue to make more games ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

My partner and I took turns playing this one! Love this entry! :)
We cracked up the first time the character started using a claw to chop things instead of a knife. Unique mechanics and it fit the theme and limitation really well! Nicely done.

Developer(+1)

Love that you two took turns playing! XD That first claw reveal was one of our favorite moments to put together, so hearing that it got a laugh out of both of you is awesome! It was fun thinking of how to work the transformation into the gameplay while respecting the theme/limitation. Thanks to you both for checking it out!

Submitted(+1)

Another super charming jam entry from you guys! I got distracted from my actual cooking while playing lol. The cooking mama style gameplay makes me very nostalgic, and I loved all the fun touches like the tail knocking things off, the sniffing mechanic, and the knife being replaced with a claw as the character became more wolfy. Super creative, great work!

Developer

Hopefully we didn't distract you enough to burn your actual dinner, lol. Cooking Mama was definitely a big inspiration for us, so it's great that it brought back some nostalgia. We had a lot of fun coming up with all those little ways the transformation would affect the cooking, especially the tail and claws. Really appreciate you checking out another one of our games and all the kind words!

Submitted(+1)

This is so cozy and very funny.  The first time the tail knocked my item out of my hand was a funny moment.  I liked the reuse and expanding of mechanics like the cutting and the tail dodging.  Fun and charming!  Right on theme and I love the art!  Feels very polished for a jam!  Well done!

Developer(+1)

That first tail knock was one of the moments we were most excited for people to see XD It's really cool that you picked up on how we kept building on the mechanics as the game went on, too. We tried to keep things interesting without introducing too much all at once. And my wife will love hearing what you thought of the art! Really appreciate the compliments, especially about the polish!

Submitted(+1)

Cooking Mama for wereworfs :)
It's very relaxing! Gamplay is really fun to play. Unfortunatly, somehow I got stuck ufter cutting beef and carrots.

Developer

Haha, Cooking Mama with a werewolf is pretty much what we were going for! XD

Sorry to hear you got stuck though! Do you happen to remember what happened after cutting the beef and carrots? Like if the game stopped responding or if it just wasn't clear what to do next? Would love to know so I can look into it. Appreciate you giving it a try!

Submitted(+1)

I cut the beef first, then carrots. Game suddely stopped responding when the chopped carrot on the cutting board was on the table. Idk, maybe it was my internet connection? I can try again and see if game will freeze again,

Developer

Oh wow, that's really strange! I haven't come across that happening before, so I'm not quite sure what could've caused it. If you don't mind giving it another try, I'd really appreciate it! I'm curious to see if it happens again or if it was just a one-off thing. Thanks for getting back to me with the details!

Submitted(+1)

Very satisfying gameplay. The game progression kept you hooked and had a good difficulty curve. I liked the attention to details!

Developer(+1)

That's great to hear, especially about the difficulty curve! It was tricky figuring out how to ramp things up without making it too frustrating. We put a lot of love into the little details too, so it's nice to see them getting noticed. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
